Amazon, as always! 😀 I got the 14″ Zinus bed frame based off a friend’s recommendation (link is to king size) but I’m already kind of wishing I’d gotten the 16″ high version after I got a closer look at the limitations of the 14″ (only 13″ high bins, and the braces on the ends mean you only get to put the tall bins in the middle.)
It was surprisingly inexpensive, and I’m very much looking forward to the lack of box springs. And the cat is looking forward to having enough clearance to actually stand upright when he crawls under the bed. LOL.
Speaking of which, I should get off the Internet and back to my project, I’m just 6 bolts away from being rid of the old bed!

I’ve got one like this that supports 500lb. I have a foam mattress on it that’s ~80lb and between me and my wife we’re easily 300lb+. So we’re close to what is “says” is the limit without any squeaking, bowing, or anything. Had it for years.

Sorry to dredge up an old post but we’ve finally started receiving layers. After a nights sleep, we noticed that the latex layers might be getting some additional stress due to our bed frame. We have https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MIVR06 and I wasn’t sure if the wires on the ‘north-south’ orientation might be taking out some of the support. I imagine if we had a cover on it, that may mitigate some of that? Should we consider putting a 1-2″ layer of poly foam or is it fine as-is when we get a cover?
Thanks!

This bed platform is cheap and isn’t going anywhere. Also fits inside most bed frames, if you’re looking to keep your pretty headboard/ footboard

Keep the bed, take out the slots and buy this platform in a full size. It’s sturdy af and fits inside any bed frame. The legs on the platform allow for multiple under the bed restraints.

Good afternoon,
I’m trying to build a king sized futon bed, using a metal frame (like this: Sleep Master Platform Metal Bed Frame/Foundation (King) – Perfect for Spring, Latex, and Memory Foam Mattresses https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MIVR06/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_v6nTCbPCCC9B4 ) I’m not sure how to attach the hinges to make it work right, along with how/where to attach the back bar to hold it the couch position.
Thanks!

Bedinabox.com king size mattress… and metal foundation from amazon.
Here:
Zinus 14 Inch SmartBase Mattress Foundation / Platform Bed Frame / Box Spring Replacement / Quiet Noise-Free / Maximum Under-bed Storage, King https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MIVR06/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HDmwAbG0PBFB1
That frame makes zero noise. Completely silent fucking. Great for full swaps. We’ve had some great times.

King size bed frame, used for about a year. All metal, very solid. Doesn’t require a box spring. Separates into two pieces and folds up so you can transport it by car. Only getting rid of it because I replaced it with something with a headboard.
$40

I bought a $110 metal frame from Amazon for my new serta memory foam mattress. It hasn’t arrived yet, but it has thousands of great reviews, so I figure it is a pretty good bet. No foundation is required with this type of frame. Link

It’s currently on top of OSB / plywood, which in turn is on top of this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MIVR06?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This platform is sturdy af and fits inside and bed frame. I have it dropped into a malm bed from IKEA. The legs on the platform allow for multiple under the bed restraints.

I picked up one of these off amazon a year or so ago when I had to pickup a frame on the cheap. It will be two full size frames that are held together with bolts and wingnuts. I got the queen size, and was very happy with it. I didn’t find it to be squeaky or loud, and it definitively gave the mattress the necessary support. If you have a box spring, you can do a standard frame for even less. As for the two twin mattresses, you’ll notice the gap where they meet. Getting a thick king size mattress pad will reduce how much you’ll notice that gap.
I’d keep the futon as the couch/guest bed. In my youth I did the futon as a bed thing, and it was terrible. It worked fine for the first month or two, but as I went on, my back paid the price.
Everything should run you under $150. Hope that helps!
