I don’t have much as far as specific suggestions for a mattress, but as far as a frame goes, I ordered this a few years ago and have been happy with it so far:

I know you want to see the frame in person, but have you considered purchasing from amazon?

They have quite a bit of designs to choose from.

I purchased this one (I would wait for the price to drop, I paid $140): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00BWC1X3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I had 2 minor issues with this frame.

1 was the mattress sliding around (not an issue if the bed is against 2 walls) and 2, the delivery person was not capable of carrying the box up the stairs by him/herself, so instead they left the giant box in my driveway, open for any, really strong, person to steal.

If you have 2 people it shouldn’t be an issue.

It depends on whether you want a certain look, but personally I’m partial to these.

I like them because they are unobtrusive as they are, but if you get the version with brackets you can attach a headboard and footboard and give it the look you want in a bed. They also do hold a TON of weight and are very solid. I’ve never liked the wood slats, too many instances where they slipped off the frame and all the sudden I’m sinking. A traditional bed frame made of solid wood is a great choice as well but under $500 is probably not going to happen.

Sinus makes a several different frames and they’re easy to get mixed up. I use their strongest frame which can hold over 4000lbs. And yes I’ve been sexually active on it. Almost 3 years and no problems.

You’ve got your answers here. A platform frame is an affordable way to solve the problem and keep things comfortable. I’ve been using this one for years and i absolutely love it. And there’s no assembly, it just folds in half.

This is Canadian but I’ve had luck with something similar!

The metal doesn’t bend. It comes apart nicely for moving. I use it with a box spring for an extra tall bed (I’m 5’10) but you don’t have to use a box spring at all! The only issue I have with mine is that it squeaks but this one claims to be silent.

I bought two Zinus Ultima Comfort 10″ mattresses (master and guest bedroom) and overall I’m happy with them. One came rather firm and the other didn’t expand to the full 10″ and was very plush. Similarly, I was sleeping on junk before this mattess so it was still a welcome upgrade. Just know there may be some variance.

I also bought the heavy duty version of the foundation for both, which I would definitely recommend. It’s rock solid with bars instead of the wires.

If you want to attach a headboard you’ll end up having to buy a $10-15 bracket, but it’s worked out great.

Look into seeing if this will fit inside of your existing bed frame. Or something similar.

I’ve considered buying a Malm bed frame but supporting it with a SmartBase metal frame (apparently you can remove the internal hardware of the Malm).

Has anyone done similar?

I got something like this bc I live with a partner and we wanted a frame that wouldn’t creak or sag with multiple people on it:

https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Mattress-Foundation-Replacement/dp/B00BWC1X3S/ref=psdc_3248801011_t1_B00GXUM0M2

I like it a lot. It folds in half down the middle and the legs fold in, so it’s easy to move, but it’s still really sturdy. I would definitely suggest going for the 14-inch kind because most plastic storage bins and laundry bins are around that size. If you get the 10-inch then you’ll have to get special bins.

A bed skirt is also really cheap and it just lays under your mattress and hangs down so you don’t see anything under the frame. Tons of extra storage space but no eyesore.

This thing. You can get different heights to maximize under bed storage. Just get heavy duty version. Not a damn peep. Hella quiet. ZINUS SmartBase Super Heavy Duty… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BWC1X3S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Should be fine. That said I recommend adding a sheet of thin sanded plywood on top for extra support. Here is a little beefier frame: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWC1X3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I’d assume so since Purple sells one to go with their mattresses, most of which are hybrids.

I haven’t gotten to use it yet, but I bought this one for my hybrid mattress. It looks just like the one Purple sells for king-size mattresses, and I’m hoping it will be better than the ones with thin wires because the last time I bought one like that, from Walmart, the wires along the middle of the frame, bent and a few gave away altogether.

Ok, not sure what your budget is, but a bed is a great start.

I’ve got a cheap setup I absolutely love that requires only a frame and mattress. The frame is a platform and just unfolds, but is strong enough to park my car on. Link

Mattress is a couple hundred and is super comfortable. Link

Next, get a plunger before you need one. Make sure you’ve got basic cleaning supplies, get some plates, bowls, silverware.

That’ll cover most of the day to day.

Fucking lived this exact thing. Still got the same exact bedframe, but now it’s not because it’s what I can afford. I’ve still got it now because it’s actually pretty awesome.

I have this platform. The chat rep confirmed it was sufficient for the Ultimate Hybrid and it isn’t dissimilar to what mattresses.net sells on their site.

If you’d be willing to spend a bit more on this one it’s got a lot more support.

As an additional aside to amend this:
Our IKEA mattress support after eight years of vigorous use (plus I’m a pretty big guy) developed a crack in one of the wooden mattress supports. We really loved the frame and didn’t know what to do. We ended up getting a ZINUS Mattress support that fit perfectly inside our IKEA outer bed frame. It is extremely sturdy, unbelievably easy to assemble, holds up to 1100 pounds and wasn’t terribly expensive. Obviously, every frame/mattress size has its own corresponding ZINUS product we simply adore the king-size one that we got. The link below will indicate what we bought. It does not require a Bunkie board or plywood to support our mattress.
