YMDK Carbon I believe.

Hey r/mk! Long time lurker and first-time poster. I bought the Drop Alt keyboard about a year ago and been wanting to make some changes to it.
I lubed the Halo True switches, which I love, to remove the spring-y noise. I also replaced the default keycaps with an OEM profile set that I saw on Amazon from YMDK: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079GZQFY6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

sorry to bother you i’m still new to keyboard thing but what about these keys YMDK 96 84 ANSI ISO Keyset OEM Profile Thick PBT Keycap Set for Cherry MX Mechanical Keyboard YMD96 RS96 KBD75 YMD75 FC980M (Gray Beige)(Only Keycap) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RBTZ124E5GVJR9B0NT97 i will just keep the regular mac keys sort of similar color anyway

Got these on Amazon recently and I’m super happy with them for the price. They are nice and thick and dramatically improve the feeling and sound while typing. Since the legends for the function keys weren’t present on this set, I just kept those from the Keychron set and I think they blend pretty nicely. No shine through, but the back light still looks great. I did have to modify the stem and base of the “Home” key very carefully with a dremel tool because it was a slightly different profile, but definitely worth it. I love this keyboard so much more with decent keycaps on it. One day I hope to upgrade to an official Keychron PBT set, but this scratches the itch for now.
·
Hey y’all. I ordered this keycap set from Amazon to put on a kbd75v2 until I can decide on a sexier set, and it’s pretty decent for a budget option. However, I dislike the “WIN” key (I’d rather have something generic or a Linux/Tux key) and I want to change the WASD keys to a contrasting color (maybe red).
What is my best bet for matching the caps in terms of style, texture and font? Or… should I just stick it out until I get my preferred cap set?
·
OP – This is what I am typing on right now for work and my biggest recommendation is to get a nicer keycap set. I don’t use the RGB back light, so I have that off but it makes a huge difference to get a nicer keycap set, whole new look and feel.
I got the YMDK 96 84 ANSI ISO Keyset from Amazon and it looks fantastic. Just know you will need a keycap for the light button on the top right (unless you want to name it something else). I used an orange ASCEND from Glorious that I got as a promo item at PAX South and it works well. It improves the board a lot in terms of typing feel. Enjoy it!
·
Yup bingo! From amazon. Not bad for $24 but I can feel the print of the letters on top of them.

I’m sorry to ask such a basic question, but I’ve done a little research and I’m still confused: will these YMDK keycaps fit my brand new Anne Pro 2?
Thanks for taking the time to indulge an MK newb.

Ah! This got more attention than I was expecting! A little background:
TADA68 and OEM blue aluminum case – purchased from KBDfans.cn
-Gateron Brown switches (RGB type with room for LEDs)
-1.8mm white LEDs
-Cheap YMDK keycaps from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079GZQFY6/) these feel pretty good, not gonna lie. Couldn’t QUITE spring for GMKs
-GMK 6.25u spacebar bought from r/mechmarket, no idea what set it’s from
-Custom mini USB cable made by me using parts from ZAP! Cables (https://zapcables.com/) These guys aren’t the cheapest, but cuts down on waste as you don’t have to buy 1,000 of them. They are also based in the US unlike most of these retailers
-Artisan that I won from a u/KeyLabs giveaway! It’s their Voodoo in the ‘reaper’ colorway and looks awesome!

I got a LOT of help from the community including u/brok3nlights, u/Surpex, and u/ipee9932cd for their help and support. Huge thanks to everyone who helped me out along the way! 😀

The question is a bit open ended, but have your considered the YMDK keycaps (since you’re question is about the YMDK board), this set will do most of your layouts (definitely C, maybe D) and ANSI:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B079GZQFY6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And if you really care about ISO, you can get ISO keys for it (which are almost as expensive)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086PDFN9S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I used them for my YMDK SP84 Split keyboard, but there is a “long” spacebar ~11.5cm in that kit, as well as Page Up Page Down for different rows.
My config is a essentially Layout C, but split – see here https://github.com/peverett/YMDK75_SP84_ISO_build_log

Should be doable. As an example:
https://drop.com/buy/drop-alt-barebones-mechanical-keyboard – 140$. Case, hot-swap PCB. It’s 67 keys variant however (look at the pictures), a bigger version is $10 more.
That leaves you with $60 for keycaps and switches. You definitely won’t buy any limited edition / group buys keycaps in this kind of budget (that exceeds $100 alone) but you can find okayish keycap sets for as little as $25 on amazon or aliexpress. For instance:
That gives me a total of $165-170. From then you need switches. Price of these varies between $30 to $80 per kit (assuming you need 70 keycaps, if you want 90 to have a larger keyboard then it will be a bit more).
Eg.
https://drop.com/buy/everglide-crystal-violet-custom-mechanical-switches
https://novelkeys.xyz/products/gateron-switches?variant=19441344970845 < I see some Gaterons are available, $2.40 per 10 so $20 gets you there.
https://novelkeys.xyz/collections/switches/products/kailh-pro-switches?variant=3747975921704
And yes, there are LOTS of different types of switches, from many different manufacturers with completely different sound and feeling to them. I suggest to do some research in this regard. Although if you pick keyboard with hot swap then you can replace all keys in around 15 minutes later.

I do! I use this $25 set off AmazonI use this $25 set off Amazon

I used these from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6

If this is the set you’re talking about, it looks like you’ll have some compatibility issues on the bottom row https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6 (the right control and alt are both 1.5u instead of 1.25u)

Hello guys. I am going to build my first ever keeb.
I just preordered the White GMMK Pro ISO (Yeah… i like ISO)(https://ucarecdn.com/c15954bc-091b-4e8d-9593-7fc63b73a4d0~5/nth/1/-/format/auto/-/quality/lighter/) and i have not yet decided what keycaps i will go for. I was wondering if some of you could help me see if this set: https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=psdc_12879431_t2_B081DDCHZN could fit my bord? First of all, like if the keycaps will fit, but also if it would be a good visual match? I have not yet understood the profile thingie for the keycaps and so on.
Thanks in advance 😀

Hi! I am not sure if this merchant ships to Italy, but on amazon.de you have these:https://www.amazon.de/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=YMDK&qid=1615407798&s=computers&search-type=ss&sr=1-3&th=1they also have an addon for the Italian ISO set.
·
Highly suggest replacing the caps on that keychron. I have a K4 and put on some cheap PBTs from amazon and it looks 100x as good and types even better.

Just snagged a pre-built 65% TOFU65 from KBD fans!
https://kbdfans.com/collections/fully-assembled-keyboard/products/fully-assembled-tofu65-mechanical-keyboards?variant=34112599621771
Would check it out soon since it seems that KBDFans goes in and out of stock fairly quickly.
They have basically every switch imaginable (including all the Kailhs). Got mine with Kailh navys.
Also, got PBT keycaps that are compatible with the 65% layout on Amazon for $26 (https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=pd_sbs_147_4/134-6686994-9085807?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B079GZQFY6&pd_rd_r=0c7f4bd1-0968-4e8c-a3e3-8944e91f7605&pd_rd_w=ZaRzO&pd_rd_wg=6Pxrk&pf_rd…)

They don’t have a name but they were PBT caps and relatively cheap on Amazon.
·
They’re cheap ones from Amazon although I bought 2 different colors of them so it’s actually a mixture of both: https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Suitable-Mechanical-Keyboard-Standard/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2RWHXVPFHV7SP&keywords=pbt%2Bkeycaps&qid=1581686683&sprefix=pbt%2B%2Caps%2C167&sr=8-5&th=1

There you go though the full set won’t fit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_mV5-DbJDXKG1G

These would look sick in a wood case and they are pretty cheap.

Where would I be able to find a few replacement keycaps? My sister bought me a set but the right hand side Alt, Win, FN, Ctrl and Shift are all too small for my board.
These are the keys I got, and this is my board.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I live the new caps and I hope I can complete the set.

The tada68 or sabre68 are a great place to start. I had the same keyboard you did when I moved to the sabre with the mod-m tactile switches (I prefer tactile over linear myself). I still use this keyboard as my daily driver at work. I will likely replace it with a 65% form factor with swappable switches when I can get my hands on one, but wouldn’t be surprised if the mod-m switches continue to find a place on it. Wanting to try holy pandas at some point.
https://www.originativeco.com/products/saber-68?variant=32568787984
For a nice looking set of retro keycaps that are pbt, I’ve stuck with these that are only $24.
YMDK 96 ANSI ISO Keyset OEM… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079GZQFY6?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
That combo sticks pretty close to your budget.

I’ve been super happy with this set on my 65% boards. Should be fine with 60 too.
