Also, everyone says keep things white, but I disagree. You can get colorful with the walls but keep you furniture light.

Replace your book shelves with closed shelves so the clutter is hidden. Anything decorative that you want on display can be displayed on a few floating shelves on the right wall of your bed. That cluttered back corner can be completely shelves and then close off the area with a room divider (you can find pretty ones!) so that the area acts as a closet for clothes and shoes.
