I have the Withings Body Plus and I love it! Mine still syncs, although sometimes it may take it an hour or two after I’ve gone downstairs, while the scale is upstairs. And sometimes it syncs before I can even turn around and input the weight myself.

But I love it for the body composition, body fat, BMI, water percentage, and all that stuff. Yes, I know that it’s not truthfully accurate on all that stuff but I can still see trends. And it’s exciting to see my BMI go down and my muscle and or bone mass going up.

What’s especially exciting is to see my water percentage going up when I have had trouble drinking enough water for years and years and years but I’m finally drinking almost enough.

I did stevia for awhile and slowly put less. It just takes awhile to get used to it. Stevia is fine, but I wanted to invest my carbs elsewhere. 🙂

I bought a withings scale. It has a nice app that tracks your weight and will import your steps from your phone (apple, android maybe?). The app is pretty nice. I used to get discouraged when I didn’t lose weight every day. It helps to see the weekly and monthly trends. Now, if I meet my monthly goal, I’m ok.

To broadly answer your question: yes, it takes a while. But the length of time it takes to lose fat and gain muscle can vary wildly depending a number of factors specific to the individual.

To answer your second question: no, you do not need to cut your calories even more. Assuming your goal is to lose weight (which I guess is the name of this sub, duh), it sounds like you are already doing that. And if an 1850/day calorie intake is keeping you satisfied enough to stay sane, I’d say you are in a good place.

You say you want to lose fat the most. Do you have a way to track your % body fat? If not, I’d recommend getting a scale that does that so you can start working towards that goal with concrete numbers in hand. I use this one at home, which I like because it syncs up with the Lose It app: https://smile.amazon.com/Withings-Nokia-Body-Composition-smartphone/dp/B071XW4C5Q/ref=sr\_1\_1\_sspa?crid=1OGXN68761CHK&dchild=1&keywords=withings+scale&qid=1630787316&rdc=1&sprefix=withings+s%2Caps%2C216&sr=8-1-spons&p…

Try a smart scale. Being able to measure things like muscle mass, water, fat percentage, etc. really helps me to tweak things better. Here is the one I use:

Well when I searched up on the macro calculator, it said that a normal weight increase was around a 1lb a week for lean muscle increase. I put on 8lbs within one month so I was doing double what was considered ‘normal’.

I wasn’t looking at myself in the mirror thinking I look fat but I thought if I keep this up that’s exactly what will happen. These are the scales I use – https://www.amazon.co.uk/Withings-Body-Composition-Digital-smartphone/dp/B071XW4C5Q/ref=asc_df_B071XW4C5Q/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309889597107&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=504074393147225877&hvpone=&hvptwo=&amp… and it comes with an app that graphs all your measurements together, looking at the graph it looked like a very steep increase which is what also made me reduce my calorie intake. The graph definitely had the most affect on me. It looked scarily steep and I thought I’m going to get fat if I carry this on.

I wanted to attach screenshots of the app to show but I didn’t know how to attach multiple photos on here. If I can attach a photo to the comments I’m happy to share screenshots of the graphs in my app that show: Weight, Body fat %, Muscle Mass % and Body Water %. A lot of the measurements I take with a pinch of salt though, I don’t see how it can accurately measure water % or body fat % just from scales. A nice addition if you care though.

I have the Withings Body+ scale which reports Body Water as a percentage. I don’t know if the absolute value is correct — who knows?? — but it definitely trends correctly.

I recently stopped taking HCTZ for high blood pressure. HCTZ is a diuretic, and I was prepared to watch my weight go up by a pound a day in rebound water retention when I first stopped taking it. My scale showed the increasing water percentage that happened when I stopped taking the HCTZ. It knew it was water and not fat or muscle.

I was actually a little surprised that my scale was able to detect the increasing water weight and now I trust it a little more and at least believe the trends it gives me for water %, muscle % and fat %.

Here is the scale I use… this is not an affiliate link and I have no vested interest in your purchasing this scale, just sharing what has worked for me:

Here’s the one I have: Withings Scale

I waited until it went on sale for around $60 I think but I don’t know how often it goes on sale. You can sync it to your phone and see changes over time too!

I got this withings scale for $80 and it has been consistent under similar conditions. So I don’t think it’s very accurate for individuals because it makes a lot of assumptions but it seems precise with its measurements so far. It varies with your level of hydration though, so I take measurements in the morning consistently for comparison but the body fat percentage goes down later in the day when I’m more hydrated. I haven’t been progressing lately so I still want to see if it’s consistent about tracking changes over time.

The app and scale includes a lot of features but I don’t actually need all of them. I was looking at Renpho but reviews on amazon, and some folks mentioned the same here, said that the formula it uses seems to have a very linear relationship with your BMI so it would just give the same body fat percentage at the same weight.

I have this one and I’m as happy with it as one could be, considering it’s just a scale. It’s got features, it functions, and it doesn’t move from the floor, which coincidentally are exactly the three features I wanted in a scale.

Joking aside, I do actually like it. It is easy to use and it is simple (I mean that in the good way).

It’s the Nokia (formerly Withings) “Health Mate” app that connects to their scale. The scale is a bit out of date hardware wise (hasn’t been updated in 5 years or so?), I’d probably wait for them to release a new version.

I bought a Tanita body composition scale similar to this one like 10-12 years ago that’s probably wildly out of date in terms of latest technology. There are a bunch of good ones available now. I had looked at upgrading to a Withings smart scale, since it has bluetooth and could record data right onto my phone and possibly sync directly with my fitness pal like the garmin does.

If you aren’t able to get all the pieces, I’d suggest starting with the activity tracker watch. I happen to like the Garmin and there are a few versions in similar price ranges that do the same thing (even the vivoactive 4 has more feminine styles, I bought my wife the white one with rose gold bezel). One reason I got the Garmin was that it uses a better tech than some other ones for measuring heart rate. I previously had a fitbit watch and a Basic watch that both stopped measuring accurately when I started sweating.

The Garmin also has GPS, so if you’re walking/running/cycling, it’ll track your distance via GPS and not just by how much you swing your arms (like for instance if it’s cold out and you have your hands in your pockets while you walk or are cycling and holding handlebars).

So as a start, I would go with the activity tracker. The Garmin even gives you a basic BMR (that’s less accurate than the scale, but probably good enough to start with).

So the scale is nice, but the Garmin plus the food tracking is your best bet. My Fitness Pal has been what I use, but it’s not the only one. However, it has a lot of features that make it the best I’ve found. It has the largest database of food products, so it’s pretty easy to look something up, and it also has a bar code scanner function, so if you bought a protein bar or jar of pasta sauce, you can scan the barcode and it usually comes up. If it’s not in the database, you can enter in the info and it’ll be saved for you and everyone else.

The food tracking is kind of annoying, but it’s essential, because most people don’t know how much they’re really eating. In your case, not enough, in my case it was way too much. I mean, I knew I was eating too much, but I thought it was just a little and my metabolism would handle it like it used to when I was 20 and 175lbs and played college basketball.

The only word of caution I’ll give you is that these numbers can be a double-edged sword. It sounds like you have a therapist already, so that’ll be helpful. You want to use the numbers to track progress, but you have to make sure you’re not going to become obsessive about it or get frustrated if your body isn’t always cooperating.

When I lost 75lbs, I started off really easy and shed a ton of weight just by paying attention to what I was eating, but then it got harder. I had periods, sometimes weeks or even a month where I hardly lost weight and then it would start again if I just stuck to the program. But you also have to realize you aren’t going to be close to perfect and if you miss your numbers for a day, well, the best time to make good choices was today and the next best time is tomorrow.

Another thing that helped was looking up and following the rules from No More Zero Days which is now a whole subreddit and app. I didn’t last forever on that system, but it really helped when I was getting started and then it became a habit.

Lastly, the important thing is to figure out your macros (the high level nutrition target you’re going for) to reach your goals. I’m not a nutritionist, but when I lost my weight and when I’m helping my wife gain muscle, I followed 40% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carbs. My Fitness Pal lets you program that in measure your intake over the day towards that goal. Now, 40% protein is a hard target to hit, so I aimed for it, but mostly fell short and got more like 30-35% protein. So don’t feel bad if you can’t reach it. But that much protein will help stimulate new muscle growth along with your exercise regimen. I did High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) routines along with powerlifting, but the HIIT stuff is probably a good place to start and there are a LOT of programs/routines available online for different skill levels. Good luck! Hit me up if you have any questions, I’m happy to help. Sorry this is a novel, hopefully it helps.
