I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-9962-717-Cordless-Battery-Trimmer/dp/B000ICLIO2 because my other trimmer was twice the size and weight and the charging cord was huge (regular bic razors make me break out).
I just figured if I could avoid having half my face shaved and the battery dying on me that I might as well, but it obviously isn’t worth it if there is a good chance they leak.

This Wahl cordless beard trimmer costs $11.25, weighs 4 ounces and takes a single AA battery. I use it to keep my beard trim, but some Amazon reviewers report giving themselves buzz cuts with it.

– i don’t need it to shave tho. i was actually looking at the Wahl Travel Trimmer which weights 67g. a great thread about some trimmers here.
– in my hikes, i never had to wear that many layers. my active wear was the capilene hoody, with the r1/houdini in the chilly mornings. i was wearing my cerium puffy only at camp, but i could have been ok with the r1/houdini. i actually landed my puffy during one of the hike to my friend.
– i used to be into technical photography for many years (landscape, flash portrait photography, astrophotography, time lapsing the milky way, northern lights and such) but i sold everything back in 2016 when i realized that photography is not about gear. it’s about the moment, composition, light, etc. photography gear is SO overrated (they did marketing right). btw it’s impossible to notice resolution differences on social medias, you’re probably talking about lowlight, colour or dynamic range? anyways, the iphone is good enough for me since the 5s. don’t focus on gear.

I couldn’t find one. So I got this Wahl travel trimmer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ICLIO2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BRpOCbC60FCCY
A rechargeable AA battery
And this very compact USB battery charger from Ikea: https://m2.ikea.com/us/en/p/vinninge-battery-charger-70303635/

I brought this guy on my trip (also suggested by /u/earlearlearl): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ICLIO2. It’s very compact and takes a single AA battery.
I haven’t shaved with a razor in years. Beard grows too fast and I have sensitive skin. I’m 5 weeks into a 10 week trip and I tell you I really miss my electric shaver at home. If I could bring one luxury item next time, I’d bring replace it with the shaver I brought in a heartbeat (https://www.philips.co.in/c-p/BT7206_15/beardtrimmer-series-7000-vacuum-beard-trimmer).

I’d recommend this trimmer as a good compromise. Gets the job done and is hardly noticeable in bag.
