whats the difference between OP and this?
is one necessarily better than the other? i know the amazon link is tenkeyless, but anything else?
·
The cheap Velocifire boards on Amazon have Zorro browns, a little inconsistent force and less bump than Gateron browns. They are not bad at all if you don’t mind the turquoise green backlight. I have one of the TKL boards $30 on Amazon for my second computer, and just picked up another on a lightning deal for $25!
·
Magni 2 Uber basically replaced by Magni 3 btw. Also, Hifiman HE400i somewhat superceded by Massdrop’s HE-4XX which I think have a more comfortable looking headband (i have the HE400i and dont like the headband). iDSD Micro BL is awesome btw in case u havent heard it yet. Also if u want a TKL brown switch keyboard may i recommend considering Velocifire TKL01 from Amazon if you are interested in a cheap alternative, its what I use at work. https://smile.amazon.com/Mechanical-Velocifire-TKL01-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510768682&sr=8-1&keywords=velocifire+tkl
·
Can always try e-bay. Or bite the bullet and go for a different switch. I bought this bad boy for $26 on Amazon. It’s got Outemu browns and it feels amazing. Really loving this keyboard. I have a Magicforce 68 for work ($40) as well and that also is a very capable keyboard.
·
I found one on amazon us and ill import it to the UK
£36 in all
Outemu browns, TKL and blue backlighting

·
Lol you’re gonna hate it…it’s in my price range though
·
I use it as my main. I tried Cherry MX browns on the logitech G710+ but for some reason I like these Outemu switches more.
·
Oh I understand now, still I am not sure if I wanna get rid of the F keys and merge them into the number keys as I use them sometimes.
I found this: https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-TKL01-Mechanical-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01MS8YTYX which finally seems like a keyboard which finally ticks all my requirements. (quiet switch, TKL and etc)
Do you think this one is good?

>Velocifire TKL Brown Keyboard (No Box) – $30 + shipping
·
The Velocifire TKL01 has Outemu Browns. You should be able to get Drevo’s Gramr and Tyrfing with them as well.
Not a whole lot out there though, yeah.
·
I don’t know what qualifies as a “gaming” keyboard. Linux supports USB HID, so the base functionality should work on every USB keyboard. It would only be on-board programmable microcontrollers that could potentially need a driver.
I have a Cooler Master Storm tenkeyless which has apparently been succeeded by the “Masterkeys” model; about $80. I see this similar "Velocifier" model for about $26 but can’t comment on quality, obviously.
The patent on Cherry switches expired and there are some clones now, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility for a good mechanical keyboard to be fairly inexpensive.
·
> without being loaded with MX Blue clones
Your phrasing implies you want genuine MX Blues, not non-clicky switches lol
You could pick up a Velocifire TKL which has brown switches
·
This one isn’t on sale but it is very cheap, also has brown switches
·
I just got this board: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Tenkeyless-Velocifire-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1507125587&sr=8-2&keywords=velocifire
All I can say is that it is exceptionally better than the membrane board I was using. I wanted a mechanical keyboard but didn’t feel like spending over $50. This $30 board is honestly great for the money. The keys are equivalent to browns, they definitely have some tactile feeling to them, so not linear like reds. But they are not as loud as blues.
I think this board would fit your needs nicely. I am super happy with it, and if you have a membrane keyboard now then it will feel like a huge upgrade.
·
Looking for a cheap brown-switch keyboard that is black (and prefferably 87 keys) , any help is welcomed. Was going to get this: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Tenkeyless-Velocifire-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505689897&sr=1-8&keywords=cherry+mx+brown but it doesnt have raisable feet
·
I recently bought this one for my home computer. Its 29.99 and has back lighting and is pretty decent.
·
I really like the simplicity of yours! I got this guy for $22 on r/buildapcsales awhile back that is somewhat similar. Do the red switches feel pretty nice for $39?
·
lol, I really want one myself too. I’ve been thinking about buying this Velocifire brown switch keyboard but I can’t decide whether or not I want brown switches or blues. I heard blues are more satisfying to type on but they make so much noise.
·
Any interest in selling a set or two? I have this: https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495217329&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=velocifire+tkl%3B
Dunno if it’d fit, you think it will?
·
Another, much cheaper option, is one of the keyboards with Chinese switches instead of German.
Cheaper options like these:
https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01MS8YTYX/
They do not use genuine Cherry MX switches, but they feel very similar and cost a fraction of the real thing.
·
Here is a pretty cheap keyboard that meets all your criteria:
I can suggest you other keyboards if you’d like. Also have you considered getting clear switches? Imo I like them more than browns.
·
I’ve got a few, shared em on a previous post. Will forward links to you in this reply.
Old post of mine:
$29.99 Velocifire TKL01 Mechanical Keyboard 87-Key Tenkeyless with Brown Switches LED Illuminated Backlit Anti-ghosting Keys for Copywriter, Gamer and Programmer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FaryAbSD10V95
$29.99. This one may be slightly more desirable than the previous one due to the smaller form factor. While it’s not as small as a 60%, it is smaller than a 10keyless thanks to the condensed nav cluster. Velocifire TKL78 Mechanical Keyboard 78-Key Compact Size with Brown Switches LED Illuminated Backlit Anti-ghosting Keys for Copywriter, Gamer and Programmer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071W16NVZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hbryAbSE81335
Both of these keyboards are backlit, feature outemu brown switches, and ABS doubleshot keycaps. Now, some here will say that PBT keycaps are preferred, and I will give that merit in that white PBT doesn’t yellow over time, and is less prone to becoming shiny from use. But it does have a rougher feeling to it and it’s also more expensive, generally. Given that it’s doubleshot, these ABS caps won’t lose their legends over time. As others in this thread have said, velocifire is good for the lower price range.
Not recommended but still here: $24.99 LEOBOG K23 Wired Mechanical Keyboard,Gaming Keyboard,Laser Engraved Keycaps,87 Key,Red Switches,PC,Computer, Notebook,Laptop,Chromebook,Macbook (white) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713MVLGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_vtryAbS8DP3FB This one has red switches that are unbranded and supposedly linear, with laser etched ABS keycaps. I cannot recommend it, as from my experience of actually using this model, the unbranded switches are terrible and scratchy and sometimes non responsive. The only reason it’s here is it’s the cheapest with “linear” switches I could find on Amazon.
$39.98 Magiforce 68 with Outemu Brown switches. This keyboard is the most compact of the bunch I’m sending you, though also the most expensive, and you may prefer the color scheme. The keycaps are ABS but I am unsure of the lettering method. Mechanical Keyboard Gaming Keyboard Brown Switch 68-Keys Mini Design (60%) Gaming Wired Keyboard White Silver Magicforce by Qisan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mxryAb6S9K8HQ
Truly Bargain Bin option: $15.99 Geezer Mechanical Keyboard, Wired Backlit Gaming Keyboard With Blue Switch, Spill Resistant With 87 Keys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9M9Q5D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_miryAb2HVST28 This thing may not be what you’re looking for, but for this price, you won’t be too far back from trying. It has unspecified blue switches (likely outemu, but I’ve seen these really cheap boards with unbranded ones, so could be less than desirable potentially). It’s got gaudy rainbow LED lighting if you’re into that, and an aluminum top shell. The keycaps are likely pad printed and quick to wear off. Not really much more to say besides this thing is truly cheap, and potentially costs less than the raw switches if it actually has outemus.
Sorry I couldn’t find a better linear keyboard within the price range. Occasionally monoprice gets their in-house brand mechanical keyboards for $20, which is a great price. I got myself one of their red switch boards (outemu), and despite having pad printed thin keycaps, I’m satisfied and find the board quite smooth to game with.
As far as prebuilt stuff within the price range goes, I do hope something can catch your fancy. You can also find many blue switch clicky boards in this price range, but it seems like you’d like to keep noise levels reasonable, so I put up the cheapest one in the event you would like to try it.
There are also some boards that allow you to “hot swap” the switches, within the same brand, so you could try multiple switches for a keyboard that way with a smaller total investment. Here’s the one I use. If you get it you will want to make sure you buy outemu hotswappable switches, unless you like mutilating your switches like me. A link to a place to buy some of the better outemu variants will be below. MechanicalEagle Z-77 Tenkeyless Wired Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Blue Switches – DIY Replaceable Switches – Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I1N6N3U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qOryAbFBFB921
https://www.novelkeys.xyz/product/outemu-switches/ These ones are cheaper at $.22 a switch, but less of a selection and also relatively less satisfying keyfeel for the tactiles compared to the ice switches.
https://www.novelkeys.xyz/product/outemu-ice-switches/ The outemu “ice” series is outemu’s attempt at making cheaper varieties of the more high end custom switches some mechanical keyboard enthusiasts will go for, like Zealios switches. What this means in this case for the tactile switches is that there will be a more pronounced bump, and smoother keyfeel, but at $.35 per switch, though, some say it isn’t quite up to stuff. The difference is relatively minute between the mx-style tactiles, at least, for someone who’s never had a mech before, so if you go this route you may want to try the cheaper options first.
Edit: and if I had to make a suggestion, I’d choose one of the velocifire offerings, or the magiforce if you really want the small form factor. Whichever has a better form factor for you, really.
As for keyboards that are 10keyless, the Geezer, and the Velocifire options are what you probably want.
Some of them may or may not be in stock, and the surrounding text was originally meant for another person.
Edit: also, the tomoko listed by the other person on this thread is a good option. I’ve got one of those too, it’s not bad at all if you like click.
For the same price as that though, the mechanicaleagle one is just as good and also offers hotswap capabilities if you want to try other switches. Especially since you say you are looking for a custom base, the mechanicaleagle also has a nice metal case. It’s $26.99 on the link provided.
·
Yep. I picked it up on Amazon last week for a secondary computer. Got tired of the awful rubber dome I was using. Just looked today and it’s on a lightning deal for $24 so I picked up another one!!
The modifiers are from here, $6.99 for the pack and it comes with a nice keypuller.

Well, there is very little options but i have a ok mechanical keyboard (knock-off cherry mx browns) for only about 30 dollars. https://www.amazon.com/VELOCIFIRE-TKL01-Mechanical-Copywriters-Programmers/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?hvadid=185316441027&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9031539&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=11083207829655215871&hvtargid=kwd-286442767857&keywords=velocifire+tkl01&qid=1555472359&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 (amazon link)
·
Has anyone used the Velocifire TKL01 or the TKL 78 key?
·
without the numpad (but with the arrow cluster and other keys above it) is called tenkeyless. Most nicer boards don’t come with a rest, will need to get that seperately 😉 I’d recommend “brown” or “clear” type switches, they have the tactile bump with less audible click than ‘blue’ switches, there’s a handful of differnt companies that all make similar style switches.
I’ve heard good things about the velocifire boards for the price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS8YTYX/
and reddragon are also decent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAI2TXC/
for starter boards anyway 🙂
·
Velocifire TKL and some Drevo Yellow/Grey or Selorca Doubleshot PBT is probably the cheapest option. Even a CM Masterkeys S PBT will run you $80. You could buy some NPKC Side Prints for just a bit more and still be cheaper.

This PC should be able to handle what you want to do. I chose the 1600x over the non x because your not going to overclock. I also chose parts to go with a white theme.
Now for the peripherals, I chose a keyboard with outemu brown switches https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Velocifire-TKL01-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511342698&sr=1-10&keywords=mechanical+keyboard&refinements=p_36%3A-5000
For the mouse I chose the logitech g203 which is a really good fps mouse.
Also if you order that cpu cooler, make sure to click on the am4 bracket bundle.

Here’s all of the decent cheap ones I have saved on amazon. Only problem is that I think they’re all cherry blue (replica) switches, so they’re all pretty loud. Also, these are all tenkeyless because no one needs number pads unless they do data entry, and they take up a lot of space. I’ve had the tomoko keyboard on this list for about 2 years now and it’s still in perfect condition.

My idea was to future proof everything except the CPU. I’ll eventually buy an i7 7700K (or comparable kaby lake CPU that will be under $100 hopefully) and overclock it maybe 2-3 years from now and add more RAM and maybe storage

I would recommend geting a mech keyboard for gaming. https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-Tenkeyless-Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01MS8YTYX/ref=gbps_tit_s-3_596a_004eff5d?smid=A1YCJEIYRL1NFE&pf_rd_p=af76a610-c28c-4f12-9308-ccc69eba596a&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=gb_main&…
Oh and skip the windows can and ust use it unactivated for now. All you’ll have to deal with is a small watermark in non full screen applications in the bottom right hand corner. https://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key-to-install-and-use-windows-10/

I bought this keyboard, its an entry level mechanical one for $30, and to me its really nice

But a regular $10 logitech would be fine too – I use a regular amazon basics mouse and like it.
For a non-hardcore super gamer, most $100-$120 1080p monitors are fine, response time at or under 7ms I guess is important, I don’t really know much about monitors, I grabbed one ‘buildapcsales’ said was good (become a fixture on that subreddit, you’ll find sales on everything eventually, I gathered parts over a month using it)
As far as tutorials, I watched these, and found it to be pretty much spot on. My first one took about 4 hours until Steam was running, and I shaved about 45 minutes off the second one.

This is the monitor I got for $72 refurbed, its really nice , but has no speakers, so I got some $15 logitechs)

Can anyone tell if these keycaps will fit on a Velocifire TKL01?
·
I’m fairly set on replacing my well worn Logitech K200 ($30) with a mechanical keyboard. In particular, the Velocifire TKL01 ($25). I’m not looking to spend too much, so a lower quality board is okay for me.
Primary uses are gaming (osu!, FPS) and shitposting (audio and video editing). I chose TKL because I don’t need media keys or numpad (mouse ergonomics), but the function keys and arrow keys are still useful. I don’t think the blue switches that are common in low end MKBs would fit me either, because the noise would get on my nerves quickly. I’ve read that the knockoff “brown” switches on this model in particular are sub-par and more linear than tactile, but that doesn’t concern me too much.
So my two questions for you are: should I consider o-rings, and am I making a bad purchase?

It’s not amazing or anything but will fit your budget.
