There are a lot of budget mech keyboards out there. Personally, I bought this one from Amazon and it seems great for the price, although it isn’t exactly 60%

Eh nothing great. It’s a cheap one I found on amazon acting as a place holder until something I preordered ships

Could care less about the gamer vibe or the lights. The board just felt really nice in terms of spacing and key “depth”? Idk if that’s the right word. On my current board the keys feel too tall, and the three rows i.e. the qwerty asdf and zxcv seem too far apart (like vertically), each row is higher than the next by too much not sure the actual term for that.

I have this btw:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071W16NVZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$85 is a deal since it’s like $160 msrp but yeah I know everyone hates razer. If there’s another board that will feel similar down for it. I spend 12+ hours a day working on a lenovo think pad for work so I think I just prefer the shorter click range from a laptop keyboard.

Should I buy this keyboard? I don’t much mind the 60% size, and I was wondering if the Outemu switches were any good. I don’t want blue switches due to their noise. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071W16NVZ/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i15?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B071W16NVZ&pd_rd_r=c837d907-aee0-11e7-a1df-150a9fc61815&pd_rd_w=vvKvk&pd_rd_wg=zAD0Z&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=…

If you want to shell out $10 more for a mechanical keyboard that I was blown away by, check out this one with outemu brown switches. It’s small as hell, and the right shift takes some getting used to, but it will feel so much better than any dome switch, and it sounds so nice to type on. Great low budget mech. Red Dragon also sells some cheap mechanicals, as well as Aukey. Just make sure you don’t buy any of the ones that have the word FEEL adjacent to the word mechanical.

EDIT: If you aren’t sure about the blue LED, it’s more of a soft white / cyan instead of the dark blue in the picture. Can also be turned off by hitting FN+down arrow.

XD60 supports arrow keys and is 60% size profile. But it’s a kit, likely not what OP is looking for and out of the $60 price range.

OP may want to look into this.

Same manufacturer, but a different form factor and Outemo instead of Zorro switches. I have the TKL01, and it is quiet, especially with O-rings. This keyboard uses the same switches as the Drevo Gamr and is a similar form factor. You could look for reviews to compare them.

With leds on

Usually in the cheap range (<$40), it is hard to find browns. They pretty much all come with blues.

Other boards i like if you are in the market

Magicforce 68 Outemu browns

Redragon K552 Outemu blues

Also look into browns. Feel just like blues, but don’t have the noise. There are a few options for either type of switch for around $25 to $35 on amazon, all of which are pretty good.

104 key, blue switches, RGB: $30

87 key/tkl, blue switches, blue backlight: $28

78 key, brown switches, white backlight: $26

61 key/60%, blue switches, wireless (with option to wire if you want), backlight depends on color: $40 -this one has some questionable key layouts though, arrow keys take priority over other keys. You could work around this with autohotkey I bet

You are welcome.

I like IPS color technology in my monitors, as it gives better color and reduces neck and eye strain. The downside is slower switching speeds at the same price. These AOC monitors have a 75 Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync.

I like the Velocifier inexpensive mechanical backlit keyboard ($27 USD): https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-Mechanical-Double-Shot-Copywriter-Programmer/dp/B071W16NVZ/

The Dancase A4-SFX fits into the Tenba BYOB 13 for protection ($60 USD): https://www.amazon.com/Tenba-BYOB-13-Camera-Insert/dp/B00KT7G9UY/

Here is the main list, the total will be about 2000 AUD with the keyboard and carry bag.

.

If you need to reduce the budget, start with zero monitors and use the TV at the houses. This cuts $360+ AUD. A pair of monitors can be asked for in the future.

You could also start with one stick of 8 GB of DDR4, and get a used 2.5″ hard drive to start. Even the video card purchase could be delayed, but that would result in poor in-game FPS.

Can I do the clipping mod on the stabilizers for a velocifire TK78 without desoldering? (https://www.amazon.com/-/es/dp/B071W16NVZ/ref=emc_b_5_i) The stabs seem to be plate mounted, with soldered switches. I can release the stab and slightly move it upwards, enough to do the baid-aid mod, but I don’t know if clipping it is possible or maybe too risky in some way.

thank you, this is exactly what I needed.

however I live in Canada

would 42 USD still be a good deal for this product? (amazon says there’s an extra 12 dollar charge for customs / shipping)

I don’t know why but the Canadian amazon has this item for a much more expensive price

56 USD on Amazon.ca

E-Element Z-88 at the same price point

It’s nice for my desk because I don’t have much space, and it is significantly less wide than a traditional monitor

I like compact keyboards, but they do not have all the keys. They never have numeric keypads.

Velocifire TKL Mechanical Keyboard, 78-key, Double-Shot ABS Keycaps

I like mice that have a pinky ledge, so that it does not rub on the mouse surface at high speeds. This G.Skill ambidextrous mouse has both a right and a left thumb ledge in the box, and both can be used at once.

G.SKILL RIPJAWS MX780 Gaming Mouse with Adjustable Stuff

The Corsair Dark Core and Dark Core SE have two ledges also, but cost $80.

Hi! I’m looking to buy my first mechanical keyboard and have been doing a lot of research on this sub. I think I’d like a 75% with cherry brown switches and PBT keys. I love the look of the Vortex Race 3 but I don’t really like the keys to the right of enter (I use Mac which doesn’t make use of those). I love how the Velocfire TKL78 doesn’t have those keys, but I’m not into the whole look of black keyboards or backlit keyboards. Any suggestions for a classic tan kb that’s smaller but still has function keys for volume control/media playback?

This has Outemu browns which are similar to Cherry, but may be scratchier. Gateron switches would be the best like in this keyboard.
