Thanks for the suggestion! Ended up getting this French press instead, her choice: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCLBRTZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I sometimes slip a filter under the plunger because I like the finer grind flavor. But even with my fine grind and no filtration I usually don’t get much silt until the very last sip.

Not all french presses are made equal. I use a Veken and it has a pretty fine mesh. Cheap and one of the best FPs I’ve used.

I ended up getting a french press and a hand grinder to make my daily cup and I think it’s really easy and less likely to come out as bitter with under or over extraction.

I use 4 level scoops of whole beans (in what I think is a tablespoon size measuring spoon) and grind it to a coarse grind. Think maybe flaky salt size. I boil anywhere between 20-24oz of water and let the beans sit for 4 minutes before pouring my cup.

Like I said this is an easy way to get into making your own coffee. It’s relatively foolproof and you’ll always get a quality cup. Once you feel comfortable with that it’s easy to get into weighing and measuring for the “perfect cup”.
