Great book. I think I bought it after hearing her talk on the Art of Manliness podcast. I have been on a similar journey like you for years. Maybe I have a few ideas for you

One easy fix is to get a dumbphone. The dumbphone subreddit is a huge help and Jose Briones is a very big influence over there. https://youtube.com/c/JoseBriones.

Get an actual alarm clock and don’t charge your phone next to your bed. This one has worked great for me. USCCE Digital Alarm Clock Radio -… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YNX5D1V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

There is a gadget called a K-Safe that has been a very useful tool for me. It was on Shark Tank and it is a safe that you lock anything into for as many hours and minutes as you want for up to ten days. There is no way to bypass it without breaking it. Sometimes I put my phone in it, or a game controller, tv remotes, or even the power cable for my router. Kitchen Safe Time Locking… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGFQTYQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

You can use the iphone child lock and lock yourself out of apps. I forget what it’s called on the phone. You will need a password to access it so you can get a loved one to set it for you.

Disable almost all of your notifications. I only get them for texts and emails.

Another option which I haven’t tried is to get a phone plan with little to no data. If you work someplace with wifi access this won’t work for you.

Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for such a thorough response. Unfortunately, I ended up not getting this alarm clock because, according to one Amazon comment, the alarm stops sounding after 5 minutes, and I needed one that could go longer.

I was able to find an alarm clock with battery backup (which includes sounding the alarm, not just saving settings), very loud alarm, easy to use interface, 2 USB charging ports, and up to 1 hour long alarm duration (if you choose radio as the alarm sound). I’ll leave the link here for anyone else that happens upon this thread in the future:

I think it can be done but how hard it is probably depends on the TV. I’ve got a cheap Insignia one from several years ago and it doesn’t have the option but some TVs have an option to turn them on at a time you can set in the menu. If the tv turns on when you plug it in you could do a smart outlet and put that on a schedule to turn the power on. And I’m sure that going down the home automation rabbit hole would reap great rewards to someone willing to do so.

And I went to check on Amazon and yeah, there are still clock radios out there but they are much fancier than they used to be.
