You definitely want to look into adding to your night routine. Oils, serums, and moisturizers at night are incredibly important as they have the time to soak into your skin without being exposed to the elements (namely the sun).

I think the best place for you to start are with a Retinol serum and a night moisturizer. Retinol promotes collagen production and is used for anti-aging and acne control. It’s helped me with tone and the size of the pores on my cheeks and nose.

I use the Tree of Life 72% Organic which can be found on Amazon for $11 (this has lasted me months):

For a moisturizer I cannot recommend enough the Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion. Hyaluronic Acid is great for keeping skin moisturized and I’ve seen a huge difference in the dewy (not oily) nature of my skin since using it. The Hado Labo is perfect for dry, sensitive skin and will give you that added glow you’re looking for. Can be found on Amazon for about $30 which is a little spendy but this is a gigantic bottle that will last forever:

The number one thing I recommend is checking out Renee a.k.a Gothamista on Youtube. She’s incredibly intelligent and has a wide variety of videos available not only discussing the best products in each category, but why they’re great for certain skin types and how exactly they affect the skin. She also reviews budget friendly products. Subscribing to her literally changed my life and I’ve had the best skin I’ve ever had since finding her and taking her product recommendations:

*Edit: I use the Retinol at night after cleansing and before moisturizing.

I don’t agree with the botox, at all. About a month ago I started using over-the-counter retinoids and they’re definitely helping. I just turned 32 and started noticing the wrinkles myself. I have very sensitive and pale Norwegian skin so I have suffered some harsh damage from the sun over the years. In one month of using a combination of products I’m already noticing a huge difference.

Here’s the thing… You want to repair your skin, and this takes time. The botox crap is essentially a fast solution to and underlying problem that will still exist.

What I’ve been doing is using the following:

Purchased from Amazon – 10 USD
ToLB Retinol Serum – Clinical… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S2G7AUC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Can be purchased from local retailers – 25 to 40 USD
Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Serum 1 oz (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IA94RI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-qWNCbVAPB8MW

And lubriderm SPF lotion – about 5 USD

Because I have fair skin, I always rotate a day between the retinol serum. I’m finally at the point now where I can apply it, noticing little-to-no burn, even directly under the eyes.

So here’s my regimen:

Days 1, 3, 5, 7 – mix one pump of retinol with the SPF lotion and apply it to entire face. About fifteen minutes later, wet hands and mix with another small pump of SPF lotion and apply to face. Your face may feel a little warm, but this locks in the retinol and allows your skin to absorb it. Throughout the day, every few hours, I wet my hands again and gently rub them over my face. Any lingering lotion and retinol is then rehydrated and creates a moisture layer over your face.

After the first week I started applying the retinol directly to my face and then covering with SPF moisturizer.

Days 2, 4, 6 – wet hands and mix with a pump of SPF lotion. Massage into face. Generously apply ToLB serum to problem areas. This product also has glycolic acid, so you’ll want to apply an additional pump of moisturizer over these areas once it’s dried (about 15 min.).

Repeat weekly.

This is important, so please read this.

During this time, the retinol and glycolic acid and causing the superficial cells, closest to the skin’s surface, to die off rapidly, but they are also causing the deeper layers to regenerate cells faster. Your skin is going to be very sensitive for a while, as glycolic acid and retinol both initially thin the outer layer of the skin. Absolutely do NOT scrub your skin and avoid a lot of sun exposure until your skin has thickened back up. Honestly, just cleanse with water or a very gentle cleanser for a while, using a harsher cleaner only on your nose.

At first (several weeks), your wrinkles may appear worse. This is because your skin is essentially inflating beneath the wrinkles, making the wrinkles appear wider. After a few weeks you should start noticing the beginning of the working process. That’s where I’m at now, and my skin is really looking great. The smaller wrinkles are gone, and the deepest wrinkles almost look like a wide, shallow crevice on my face. I am confident that in a few more months they’ll be gone completely.

The only downside with this is that you eventually have to increase the strength of retinoids, but a more-natural approach is so much better than injecting paralyzing toxins into your face.

If you can commit for the long-term, do retinoids. Your skin will thank you.
