Topre Type Heaven on Amazon for $168 shipped. Caps kinda suck but you get that signature thock that would otherwise cose upwards of $230. 🙂

I have been shopping for a new keyboard for work, only for typing. I ordered a switch tester off mechanicalkeyboards.com but the topre switches have me intrigued. I did find this board on Amazon, I was thinking about picking it up and then at least if I dont like it Amazon has a hassle free return policy. Are Type Heaven and Realforce the only companies that use that switch?

> I do like Logitech’s wired scissor key keyboard with the backlight, but I doubt that thing would survive a year with my typing.
This is the one I was talking about. Have you actually used it? I’m typing on it right now, feels robust enough to me, although I admit that I’m not a particularly heavy (aggressive?) typist.
The other type of fancy keyboard you can get besides mechanical ones are ones with electrostatic capacitive switches, e.g.: http://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW/

Well, I’m also a writer, so I’m definitely a keyboard enthusiast, but I wanted one that would be equally good for writing and gaming. I think I veered more towards writing.
I have a Topre Type Heaven. I also use Dvorak, which works phenomenally well with Skyrim.
With some mystical unknown special magic, within the game, hotkeys still use QWERTY, but when I need to type my name or write in the Take Notes journal or rename things with Jaxonz Renamer, it automatically switches back to Dvorak!

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but you also may want to look into a Topre board. They have a completely different feel and sound than a normal mechanical keyboard as they operate more like a rubber dome keyboard, but also offer customization and good build quality.
The one downside with Topre is that they are usually pretty expensive, but I don’t think that will be too much of an issue 🙂
Here is a link to a full sized Topre board that is actually on sale right now if you wanted to look at it or check out the reviews.

OP, if you work anywhere near other people for the love of every god there is or was please do not buy MX cherry blues. MX cherry browns are fairly loud if you type with a heavy finger, but blues will make everybody hate you no matter how silent you try to be.
If you have your own office, then blues should be alright.
I personally have this keyboard:

I really like it, but I don’t know if it is worth the $150 price tag. I got it for free (won it) so it is definitely awesome for me. If your company will approve anything, I would recommend giving it a try.

Just a warning, no matter what mechanical keyboard you get, expect it to be a lot (read: a LOT) louder than your average membrane keyboard. There are switches that are louder than others, containing an audible click when you press them (like Cherry MX Blues and Greens), but even the ones that don’t have the clicks are loud because the keys are being pressed down into a solid plastic/metal case. There are ways to work around this, such as using a product called o-rings which you can find easily on amazon or any mechanical keyboard site for the most part. They’re little rings you put on each individual keycap that basically go between the key and the keyboard so that instead of clacking against the board, it’ll hit that rubber and be quieter.
Now, if you were to spend a lot more money, like at least $160, you can get a keyboard that uses Topre switches instead of Cherry MX, which are made using rubber domes and as a result are way quieter than Cherry MX boards. But also much more expensive and rarer. The cheapest Topre full-sized board I know of is the Type Heaven.
Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this before getting yourself into it and being disappointed in the noise.

Trying to price my Type Heaven which is hardly used, but there’s no good Amazon information. Would love some advice.

There’s also the 104 key Topre Type Heaven which is on Amazon for $154. Made by Topre but in China instead of Japan (but with Japanese made switches, I believe).

My personal favorite new keyboard, it’s my backup atm(they haven’t made my main keyboard for…. 15 years).

I think the g502 looks like complete fucking anus, love the fact there’s a g302 and g303 available(not sure if they make the 302 anymore) that has the same internals and looks really fucking normal if I just turn off the RBG. So many awful looking ‘gamer’ products out there. Razer is the worst with this, followed by.. I’m sorry george, corsair. Their gamer products have started looking fucking awful.
There’s some great things I’ve found that are still all feature rich or nice that don’t look fucking awful. The g303 for instance is a GREAT fucking mouse(also better for my style of grip). Mousepad? I love my Roccat Taito. Keyboard? I have an old Topre keyboard from Belkin(no longer in production) and would move to https://www.amazon.com/Topre-Type-Heaven-104-key-Keyboard/dp/B00DGJALYW if it breaks. I already own this keyboard and it looks.. just fine and normal. It’s a keyboard in the awesome keys I like.
I’d rather have https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-N-KUMARA-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01LXD7TP9/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1484111086&sr=1-1&keywords=reddragon+mechanical+keyboard before a blackwidow. A clone cherry keyboard less than 40 dollars. The aesthetics are.. just way better to me.

I use topres, plungers, ibms, membranes, cherrys, you name it.
Point being, no one needs a mechanical, it’s just nice to have, thats 80-150 dollars better spent on new hardware.
