So I got my brother Cherry Mx Red switches for Christmas to put into this keyboard that he currently has and doesn’t like the blue switches. I checked to make sure I got 3 pin switches that would be compatible (I thought) with the board he’s got, but when we go to put the into the board they don’t fit quite right, and we end up bending the pins if we put too much pressure and make it fit. Any idea what could be the issue, or what I could do to remedy it (i.e. buy a new barebones board to put the switches in and get key caps for it, or something simpler)?

This thing is under 20USD. It comes with blue switches and has RGB (controls built in, not software), and media keys. It’s even hotswap. HOWEVER, since it uses Outemu switches, which have their own types of metal pins, hotswapping will require modification. They have similar keyboards on their store.

If possible, I’d save more money, you have a lot more options around 50USD.

If anyone dislikes the colors, the black one is $17.99 ($24.99 – $7 (clip the coupon)).

I can also vouch for Redragon being pretty good quality for the price. I purchased one for $20, used it lightly for a year or two, passed it off to my step-son when we built his computer and he was brutal on it for a year. It still works fine.

The only one under $50 that comes to mind as being better is not a 60% keyboard, but I’ll post it here in case someone else is interested: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Gaming-Keycaps-Computer/dp/B085ZDXGZW/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=havit+keyboard&qid=1619566098&sr=8-5

I would recommend a cheap board with swappable switches, so if any key goes bad it’s easily fixable.

Something like this for example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8DZQ78/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_R9HW8GPD8M2SMPP01CB0

yes the pin holes on the pcb are in the same position. compatible switches with outemu hotswap sockets are: outemu, akko, and boba/gazzew. cherry, gate on, jwk brand switches will not fit, due to the pins being too wide for the outemu sockets.

if you don’t want low profile switches I would suggest getting a board like this: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-Rollover-Computer/dp/B07X8DZQ78/ref=sr_1_38?keywords=mechanical+keyboard&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&qid=1643393346&s=warehouse-deals&sr=1-38

it has outemu hotswap, and is cheap, so you can use your money on switches.

This TKL is only $17 right now and it’s hot swappable, but it’s blue switches. If you get browns or reds it’s $26.

I don’t think you’re getting something that nice looking for $20.

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-Rollover-Computer/dp/B07X8DZQ78/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=keyboard&qid=1632857367&refinements=p_36%3A-2000&rnid=386453011&sr=8-12 all I could find was this that looks like it’s worth more than $20

It’s an E-Yooso K620, though it’s model number is not in the listing.
