Check out this book. It is really a great reference for understanding the exercise motions needed to focus on a targeted muscle or muscle group. For a bodybuilder, this is not overkill at all (except maybe paying for everything to be in prime). You can definitely get in shape and be really healthy without this, but with it, you can target some very specific muscle groups

Even if OP isn’t a competitive lifter or bodybuilder, it’s just personal prerogative. Hell, I could just go for a walk and do yard work. Do I need a power rack, plates, barbells, dumbbells, rower, functional trainer… No. Compared to most people I know, I’ve got an insane home gym. Compared to this guy, I’ve got a shake weight. It’s all kind of relative.

I got mine at the killer deal you’re talking about and I would genuinely buy it at the current deal and still be really happy with it. You will likely still need to get a lat tower/low row and you’ll want to run a bench, but for functional training exercises, you really can’t go wrong with that deal.

It’s plenty heavy enough for targeting individual muscles. I have a big weakness in my back that has caused me a lot of grief, but targeting the right exercise with it, I’ve gotten rid of the pain and am developing some genuine strength.

I really recommend this book if you want to get a good understanding of the anatomy that’s holding you back along with example exercises that you can do to target those weaknesses.
