Since he likes loud keyboards, he will probably use a Clicky Switch.
Most people on this sub think the “Kailh BOX” Switches are by far the best ones due to a different click mecanism. Therefore it should be your priority.

This does not have them, but it’s RGB, 87 key, Cheap, has the normal Clicky Switch, FN layer multimedia, and best of all you can replace the Switches (Supposedly it’s a GMMK OEM)

This is a good budget board it’s 45 bucks and it’s a tkl. Couldn’t think of a 60% and good. This has linear tactile and clicky. Outemu blues are the clicky ones which is the link I sent.

I have this keyboard but want to swap switches to boba u4 silents; do I need to do anything specific to the switch?

So I bought a Tecware Phantom 87 which I’ve been happy with, however after about 3 weeks of use my ‘a’ keycap stem broke, which sucks obviously. I contacted the company on amazon to try to get a replacement, but it seems like they won’t be responding.

So my question is, how do I know what keycaps are the right ones to buy as far as replacements? I believe (?) this keyboard has a standard bottom row, but frankly I’m kind of lost.

I apologize for the stupid question.

If you’re willing to pay the Drop CTRL is a top tier TKL from my own understanding.

Alternatively, this is a great TKL, it’s on sale, and was OOS for a few months as it’s one of the highest rated TKL’s on Amazon.

They’re both hot swappable btw.

If neither of these fit your needs/wants hopefully it pushes you in the right direction. : )

Ready to pull the trigger on one of these boards, this will be my 1st MK and I prefer something prebuilt. I’d like the option for dim, backlit keys at times although I don’t know if that option exists aside from the Las Vegas style RGB options on the boards below. Any other 60% picks or recommendations in this price range?

  • Anne Pro 2 – seems really popular right now, cheap compared to some other boards, has bluetooth but I doubt I’ll use that feature
  • Ducky One 2 Mini RGB – similar to AP2 above, seems like a tossup to me but about $20 more expensive
  • GMMK compact – a little more $$ but I can easily swap switches if I ever feel like it. I don’t like the look as much as the Ducky and AP2 though
  • Tecware Phantom budget pick, heard about it from Youtube people seem to like it and it’s cheap. Not sure about outemu switches.

I have been taking a look at the Tecware Phantom 87, and have seen that only Outemu switches can fit into the PCB due to the slightly smaller size of the pins. Is there anyway for me to modify the board or any new non-Outemu switches that I get so that I can fit other switches inside, like Gaterons or Kailhs?

Only takes outemu switches, tho. I briefly considered this for a budget build vs a temporary el-cheapo membrane until the right deal comes along. I decided to go with the el-cheapo and waiting for the right deal.

>He won’t be able to use the faster RAM on a B360 board.

Well he can use up to 2666Mhz I believe, and the 3200Mhz RAM is only $4 more than what he had. Are you able to use 3200Mhz on a Z370? If so, I’d assume you’d get diminishing returns on intel.

>Both coolers are pretty much overkill for that CPU.

Agreed, but the H7 is better for not much more and will be a better choice if OP ever upgrades his CPU

>Especially cheap mechanical keyboards aren’t always better than decent rubber dome ones.

I can understand that, but there’s actually a lot of affordable mechanical keyboards that are pretty solid. Look at the Tecware Phantom for example.

I bought 2 of these and honestly really like them. The software is great also. You can choose different pattern, do different colors for each key and so on.

The board is actually a cheap rgb TKL from Amazon, which was surprisingly good out of the box. But, I changed out the Outemu switches they used for Gateron browns. The keycaps are PBT Pudding caps.

Tecware Phantom and buy some switches for it. It is hot swappable and is insane value for the price.

$45 for all switches, hot-swappable (only with Outemus though), pretty good quality in my opinion, I have one as my work keyboard and love it. But it’s not really on sale, that’s its normal price.

For anyone trying to order via Prime in the US, this keyboard has been the best sub $50 mech out there for a while now, imo

I bought my first mechanical keyboard several months ago, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I used PCpartpicker to browse a wide verity of mechanical keyboards, and read reviews about any that looked promising. Eventually I found and bought a Tecware Phantom which I’ve been very happy with. Months later and is still feels like new.
