Hey, just an update. I found this and it’s very inexpensive. It goes off for a full minute apparently for the alarm. You can read more in the description and read the reviews for yourself and see if it might be helpful. They’re very black and white, hence the rating.
You might have to look at another listing. It’s on the Canadian amazon for $26.50 CAD.

I’m not deaf, but my wife is a light sleeper so I got the Shake ‘n Wake which I strap to my ankle like a house arrest ankle monitor. It buzzes enough to wake me, and I’d sleep through a hurricane. I imagine it would be terrific for someone who’s deaf or hard of hearing.

I bought a misfit shine on sale under the impression that I would be able to set a vibrating alarm. Turns out it doesnt have one and this is my only reason for purchasing one. Is there anything under 50$ that will wake me up silently that isnt a giant clock attached to my wrist like this?

33 dB Earplugs in summer, and double-pane windows with metal 雨戸 shutters in winter. And, a vibrating wristwatch alarm clock. Waking up was surprisingly gentle.
Those earplugswere also great for the train, sometimes I deliberately took the 各停 just so I could have an hour uninterrupted to read some papers!

Have you tried a vibration based alarm? This is just the first rando one I found on Amazon.

You could get a more silent alarm, one that vibrates, like this.

Find a soundless alarm clock that will work for her – http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Vibrating-Personal-Alarm-Shake-N-Wake/dp/B0027A573Q just as an example.

Show her this. If she refuses to get something like it, then ruthlessly prank her.
