I’ve got a really shitty $10 pair that I’ll give to you for free, never used basically. They sound a bit like tin cans and feel like they were made with the cheapest plastic possible, but they work and I’ll head over to you if you want them.

If you don’t mind waiting for them to ship, I would recommend you just order them online. These Tascam TH-02 are what I currently use for my PC, they cost $20 right now with Amazon Prime and they actually work really well for the cost. The comfort leaves something to be desired, but they have extra padding available for sale.

If you have a dedicated sound card, yes there is, if you don’t, there is a good difference but not the point it matters if sound isn’t important to you.

These are cheap as heck, but are actually very good audio quality and literally the cheapest you can get for good quality audio that even audiophile cant complain about unless you want to spend over 60$. Might want to replace the buds for something more comfortable, but that’s optional.

Hey.

GF’s desk is in the same room as my computer and she’s looking for headphones to listen to her music on her iPod/computer. Nothing fancy but it needs to be good at noise cancelling (Read: She doesn’t want to hear me talk to my friends while playing games in the same room) and comfortable.

Would the TASCAM TH02 be a good fit for her?

Thanks!

Tell me about your headphone choice. I got the blue snowball and it’s a great mic. I have been using my Grado headphones which are fantastic for music but I think they are not meant for podcasting. The sound can be heard quite well from these headphones as they are open backed. The headphones you have i’m assuming are these ones: https://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-TH02-B-Closed-Back-Stylish-Headphone/dp/B00B1N06PO

Really low price. But they do appear to be studio specific.

This is for my stepfather. He is extremely hard of hearing, and while he has good hearing aids, he sometimes finds them uncomfortable and prefers to use a little microphone-and-amplifier box with a pair of headphones attached.

Right now he uses a pair of Skullcandy Uprocks that he and my mom happened to buy in the store. It’s kind of funny, an 80 year old guy wearing skulls on his ears. But my mom would like to get him a better pair, if only for comfort’s sake. Something that would fit over his ears. Big old-man ears.

So… Something cheap, over ear, Treble is irrelevant – he won’t hear any of it anyway; loudness is important, clarity is good.

I was thinking of just getting something like the ol’ monoprice 8323 or these Tascams or something. But I’m open to suggestions, and if anybody knows of a headphone guide specifically for people who are very hard of hearing, that would be awesome.

Hey, my headphones just died and I’m looking to replace them with the best ones possible. The TASCAM TH02 is $30 here in Canada. but almost sounds too good to be true. I was expecting to spend around 60$. Is there anything else you can recommend? Or is the TASCAM the way to go?

I was in the same boat as you a couple years ago and grabbed these- https://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-TH02-B-Closed-Back-Stylish-Headphone/dp/B00B1N06PO/

They sound pretty good, and have been durable, I did pick up some foam ear pads to replace the stock ones though, that made a world of difference comfort-wise.

I was searching for some wireless headphones so that my wife and I can both watch movies at full volume after the kids have gone to bed. My budget was about USD $200 for both wireless headphones (I’m not fussed about high sound quality, just reliability and comfort and price) but I couldn’t find anything with decent reviews. The Sennheiser RS 120 was the closest match I could see, but I hated the idea of getting sudden loud static when they entered ‘power saving mode’ and some users mentioned static in normal listening.

I ended up buying these wired headphones with a 3.5mm splitter and extension cords because they’re super cheap to get started with, and I can always upgrade later.

Does anyone have experience with wireless headphones? Would there be anything suitable under the $200 mark (for two) that would be better than those wired headphones?

Hmm, might be a good idea, what would you suggest.

Btw I found this ones for 15 bucks, are they any good? http://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-TH02-B-Closed-Back-Stylish-Headphone/dp/B00B1N06PO

If so, I would just need to get a 50-ish IEM!

Edit: are the soundmagic e10 a good set of IEMs? Or the pistons equal them in sound quality?

I’m thinking of buying the Tascam TH-02-B(~$18):

Would you guys recommend it for someone who’s looking for a cheap over-ears headphone? I need balanced audio quality, comfort, and isolation.
I tried looking for other headphones on Amazon, and most don’t ship to my location sadly, like the Sennheiser HD201 for example.
My budget is around $20, can reach $30 if highly recommended.
I appreciate any help.

I posted this yesterday, but I didn’t get any replies, so I’m trying this again.

Budget – About $30

Source – My PC and Android phone. I will be using this for everyday stuff.

Requirements for Isolation – Not too much, I’m mostly using these indoors.

Preferred Type of Headphone – On or Over Ear Headphones.

Preferred Tonal Balance – I would like an overall balanced pair of headphones.

Past Headphones – I had a pair of hand-me-down headphones from a friend, and those were really good, but they ended up breaking. For a few months, I have been using the headphones that came with my phone, and I would like something a bit better.

What I Would Like To Improve – I’m not really picky on sound quality, however I would like something better than my current headphones which came with me phone.

Edit: After a bit of searching around, I found the Tascam TH-02 Amazon Link. Do any of you think that these would fit my needs?

Careful with the Monoprice if you want durability – the headband seems to always break after around a year according to a lot of people, including me. Still, there’s really nothing built well under $30.

Edit: Also a good value

So I just read your post in response for to the guy saying you are asking for too much. I’m going to show you some builds to give you an idea of how much you are asking for. You can save money but it would require a lot of scanning and checking sales. You are asking for a lot of non-standard or specific parts or parts that are preference and there is no one good answer. The reality is we can’t help as much for those parts. Ryzen is the best for streaming and has best price to performance ratio right now. I am going to post a build of what is a very good streaming and gaming pc for you to get baseline. I am going to ignore peripherals except the monitor.

This is a rock solid build that is pretty much a bog standard futureproof build that will last for years of gaming.

Let’s see what we can do to fit with as many of your requirements as possible. I am not going to follow your budget. I’ll get as close as I can. First of all PCpartpicker does not keep up with the best prices. I will manually add in a deal here and there to show you how much you can save by scanning for sales. Since I edited this manually my prices are approximate and may not include tax.

This build is a micro atx build with a top tier cpu. Since we aren’t overclocking we can go with a cheaper mobo. A ryzen 1600 saves 15 bucks, but that isn’t that worth it.

Memory is Geil budget ram. It works ok with Ryzen and is cheap. This ram is on sale for an amazing price, and why you need to pay attention to sales and not rely on PCPartpicker.

A HDD, weeeee.

GPU. This is a decent GPU, it is the equivalent of a 1060 6GB. It is perfect for 1080p 60 FPS gameplay on high or ultra settings. Most of the titles you want to play are esports titles so this will play them fine. This is one step down from the 1070 for $185 less. This isn’t really accurate though, as last week B-stock and refurbished 1080s were going for 300. The reality is GPU prices are in free fall. Soon the next generation of cards will come out and prices of current gen will fall further. If you keep an eye out you will be able to get a great deal on a GPU. This deal is really solid if you need something right now.

Case. It has a window. It can only take a 285mm GPU which should be fine for most cards, but you’ll need to pay attention to. This is a good micro case.

Wireless adapter. you need this if you need wifi. This one is good for streaming. If your computer is going to be plugged into the router or modem then you don’t need this. This takes another 30 off the build if you don’t need it.

Monitor. A Perfectly fine 1080p 75mz esports monitor.

Keyboard. Low end Mechanical with brown switches. You can also get red switches, but don’t get blue if you wanna stream. Reds and browns are loud enough and blues a really loud. It’s rate very well for the price. A better, cooler, and more expensive option is the GMMK which is a customizable Mechanical with RGB lighting. This keyboard will cost 109 once you decide what switches you want and grab your key caps.

Mouse. Red Dragon is good company who make solid products, don’t let the fact they are a chinese company fool you, their mice aren’t cheap knock offs but legit products. Despite being called the mammoth, it is actually really good for small or medium handed people. This is what I am talking about with a lot of what you want being personal preference. If you have large hands you want a different mouse. It’s also right handed only.

Speakers. They are decent for the price. If you only want headphones then you don’t need these. Speakers are nice though.

Mic + Headphones. Excellent Atr2100 bundle with some ok stuff. Gaming headphones and mic combos suck balls or are over priced. This is considered one of the best entry level REAL mics on the market. If you are planning to stream, this mike will give you a professional sound without breaking the bank. There are few if any gaming headphone/mic combos in this price range that will compete with this. The base model is 64.50. This bundle comes with a pop filter and the Tascam TH-02 headphones which by themselves are easily as good as any ripoff gaming headphone probably up to the $50 range. This makes this a really good deal. That stand sucks ass though, like real bad, It came with mine, and you hear every thump on the keyboard at is transferred from that stand to the mike. Instead we get a cheap professional style mike stand for 12.50.

The above is best I can do for a real, professional sounding streaming and gaming pc at the lowest prices today. This shows the actual prices of what you are asking for. You can try cheaper, but it’s pretty optimized. Keep an eye on /r/buildapcsales, slickdeals, amazon gold box deals, and newegg flash and you may do better.

I’d also recommend a low cost headset to plug directly into the mixer to hear the output. Makes balancing the audio track with your singers a lot easier, not everyone projects or some people really like to get into it. https://www.amazon.com/Tascam-TH-02-Closed-Studio-Headphones/dp/B00B1N06PO/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Tascam+TH-02+Closed+Back+Studio+Headphones%2C+Black&qid=1624986511&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-3

Don’t bother with a two in one design. They generally do neither well.

  1. Tascam TH-02 for the headphones.
  2. Sony ECMCS3 for the microphone. If you need a hardware mute button (or want something prettier), the Fifine condenser mic is a good option.

Total will be well under 100 European rubles.

TASCAM TH02

Measures very well and if you really want to piss off some students you can go for the pink version from TEAC which is even cheaper.

You will be plugging these headphones into an expandable amplifier rack?

If you have some people who prefer to have one free ear, check out the Superlux HD-562 a rather audacious copy of the legendary Sennheiser HD25 which is the industry standard for most professional TV crews in the field.

Welp, my question wasn’t answered yesterday so I might as well try again. I’m a Canadian hoping I can get some advice on what kind of headphones to buy. While I have already looked at the recommendations section of the wiki and everything there is either American or American and out of stock and as a Canadian, I’m hoping for some alternative recommendations. That said, Amazon.ca does sell the TASCAM TH02 Closed-Back headphones that are mentioned on the recommendations page and they are at the top of my buying list at the moment.

Now, as for the required information:

Budget – I would like to keep it under $100 Canadian, I can go higher, but as a college student I really don’t want to.

Source – Just planning on using these with my computer, fyi I don’t have a sound card.

Requirements for Isolation – As I said, I’m a college student and since I’m living on residence I would like a fair amount of noise isolation, but not an extreme amount (I’m hoping to be on an extended quiet hours floor next year).

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? – Not planning on it.

Preferred Type of Headphone – I personally prefer over-ear headphones despite my glasses.

Preferred tonal balance – While I don’t know that much about tone, I think I’d prefer an overall balanced pair of headphones as my musical tastes are all over the place.

Past headphones – My last two headphones have been Logitech G930s. Overall they’ve both been good to me, but since both of them are dying/dead from the batteries failing I figured it was time to try something else. I really don’t care if my new headphones have a microphone or not since my current G930 probably still has enough life in it to do that.

Preferred Music – As I’ve said, I’m all over the place. I like Rock, Alternative Rock, EDM, Dubstep, Orchestral, other kinds of Electronic, a few others I don’t know the genre of. As a side note, I am also going to use these headphones for gaming.

I think that’s everything, should I just buy the TASCAM TH02s, or does anyone have any recommendations?

This is my minimum suggestion for ultra low budget sound, so that you can run dual system:

Tascam DR60D mk2 (on sale you can get it for only a little bit more than what a Zoom H1 is, while the DR60D is massively massively more useful than an H1, in a totally different league. And in my opinion the DR60D mk2 is better than anything Zoom makes up until you get to their F8 / F4 recorders). Tascam DR70D is also worth considering for a little bit extra (as then you can run two or more wireless lavs at once while recording the boom as well).

3m ish should be the minimum length to consider for a boom (5m or longer is good to have at hand as well!).

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Miloboo-MLZ901-Carbon-Fiber-285cm-Handheld-Grip-Support-LED-Light-Microphone-Boom-Pole-Holder/32318802436.html

A pair of no budget level headphones to consider:
https://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-TH02-B-Closed-Back-Stylish-Headphone/dp/B00B1N06PO/

Rode NTG2 is in my view the absolute minimum level shotgun mic a person should get (or Sennheiser MKE 600). A Rode NTG3 would be an even better choice, and a mic that could last a person a long long time. However the NTG3 costs a lot more (even though the NTG3 is I feel one of the best value mics there is!). Hopefully the Aputure V-Mic D3 will ship soon and change the game for ultra low priced microphones (promising NG3/416 level of performance!).

Rode WS6 windshield is essential! (get a blimp too when it can be afforded)

A hypercardiod is needed as well for indoors (shotgun is for outdoors), Samson C02 is a popular zero budget choice (but an Audix SCX1-HC would be so much better).

Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1155648-REG/rycote_037340_universal_shotgun_mount_for.html

Having wireless lavs as well is important once you take this to the next level, but usually they’re extremely expensive! (Look at lectrosonics) Even for the absolutely cheapest bare “minimum” quality to make it worthwhile you are looking at a Sennheiser G3 or Sony UWP-D11.
But I feel Saramonic UwMic9 is a game changer at the ultra low budget level with their recent product, thus worth checking out as the next step forward for upgrading your overall kit.
Next step after that will be to get OST-801 lavs, as you’ll see a big improvement over the stock lavs:

/u/ZeosPantera has a really good video comparing headphones that are cheap. I got the tascams and put some HM5 pads on them (the angled ones, specifically) and they sound better than the g930 and the bose qc15 (both of which I got when I was younger and thought more money = better). If you want to spend a little more, Mad Dogs are pretty good, they’re on my ‘to get’ list.

I think a lot of what it is, is that many people asscoial quality with high prices items that have huge ad campaings. Yes, Beats do sounds better then most headphones, but many people don’t do a ton of research before they make a purchase.

Here is a pair of $15 Overear Headphones that I bought a few months back. Yeah, they make not look like much, but these baby have no right to sound so good for come cheap they are.

I found out about them on r/headphones. They have a ton of recommendations at different price ranges, and I would highly recommend considering their advice.

Okay, I’ve been thinking about getting the TASCAM TH02-B headphones, but wondering if there’s any better/newer ones that fit the price range. Sorry, I’m really new to this sub.

  • Budget – $25-30 or less is preferred. Slightly flexible, maybe $5-10 over?

  • Source – My laptop and LG Optimus L90 cell phone.

  • Isolation – Some would be good. I wanna be able to hear some of what’s happening around me, but I wanna be able to hear the music too. Mainly indoors, but if they’re okay to wear outside I’ll be using them out when walking and the occasional public transportation.

  • Type – I’d heavily prefer on-ear or over-ear.

  • Tonal Balance – Overall balanced, please. But, I do enjoy a bit of bass in my music too.

  • Past – I’m currently using Skullcandy Ink’d, and would like to move up in the world of audio quality. I’ve also used Jib’s too. I’ve been using Ink’d IEM’s for the past several years.

    • Pros: I like the sound quality, low leakage, and mid-high isolation. Pretty balanced tone IMO.
    • Cons: I’m tired of the lifespan of 3-4 months before they crap out, tired of ear wax easily getting on the rubber part when using them for extended periods of time(being 4-6 hours), I feel they’re missing something but I can’t place what. Sort of like it’s missing power or MMPH. That’s the closest I can come up with.
  • Music – Various types of Metal/Hardcore. But, also Chiptune stuff like Kitsune^2.

  • Improve – Headphones that work well with editing and music production, as stated earlier, maybe a bit more bass and detail would be nice. Possibly the headphones could have a removable cord?

Thank you.

Edit: Correcting myself.

any kind of headphone is good to mix/master with. the less inspiring the frequency response, the better. while you wont have the benefits of the higher fidelity equipment, you will still have the benefits of having a common user environment to test with. you probably have access to car and/or cellphone environments as well, which are extremely important places for music to sound good

there’s been a lot of buzz around here for the free youlean meter lately. worth the hype. gave it a spin and i’ve found simply adjusting for LUFS introduces a visual layer to the process that is less well defined using other methods; ie the quality of your monitor headphones become less important to coming out with a mix/master that has a consistent output loudness. wild peaks and unexpected resonance (like what you may miss on cheap headphones) may now be diagnosed visually. alternately, a bite sized investment can push your mixes in the right direction of you feel like investing in appropriate tools.

if you had $40 budget, these are completely adequate

For $18, these tascams are probably wonderfully awful, and then you’ll have tascam swag. like finding a nylon mesh wallet with a nike swish at a garage sale.

> I think I can see myself topping out at $250, but I live below the poverty line, so if I can help it, I’d definitely like to do half that. Please go easy on me. Do I need an amp? Is my subwoofer shit? etc

Honestly, save the money and get headphones if you need higher-quality music. These are $30, and both measure and behave very well as-is. (The Amazon.ca price for these is insane, btw. If Amazon US won’t ship to you, try ebay)

Note that I said “as-is” above – these are also extremely easy to modify into something rather exceptional. A $10 visit to the nearest hardware store can make these into something completely exceptional for the price. The modifications, and results are shown here. It might even be possible to score the few pieces you need for free if you can find a store that does custom builds of car stereo (basically tiny scraps of dynamat and a tiny bit of polyfill). The white thing you see over the driver is single-ply toilet paper.

For those having problems reading the charts in the Head-Fi post: Those mods will lower all distortion components by 10-15 dB, make bass response more linear, and fix a peak at 9.5-10 KHz which is slightly too hot
