Depends on the keyboard you use. I use this keyboard, which has 7 through = directly above 1-6 on a side gaming pad. Unfortunately steelseries doesn’t make this keyboard anymore, so they can be hard to find.

Steelseries Merc Stealth my friend. https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Merc-Stealth-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00292OW1U

Best gaming keyboard I will ever use. The keyboard doesnt have the most modern features as it is 7 years old and was discontinued. But the ergonomics on the left are fantastic. My friends that play warframe say their pinky hurts from playing Warframe. I have no such issue.

It is a steelseries merc keyboard, an EOL’d keyboard from steelseries.

https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Merc-Stealth-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00292OW1U

for example, the LCTRL button there appears to be defaulted to the LaunchCalc command if the drivers bundle isnt installed. They dont support that driver package anymore, so i get stuck with the formulaic Uninstall software/uninstall device/etc repsnose from steelseries over troubleshooting.

My computer has always had difficulty with the drivers (they were designed for xp, so like 7 years ago), and they recently died entirely on me with no amount of reinstalls getting them back up and running again =(

I have a Steelseries Merc Stealth, so it’s got this super handy WSAD area that also had a shift and alt that are easily reached. I hit shift with my left pinkie, and Q with my left ring finger.

I’m trying to remember but I’m at work. I’ll try to browse their selections and see if I recognize mine, haha.

EDIT: I don’t know for sure if this is it. It looks identical, has all of the same functions, etc. I paid $79.99 for mine in-store at EB Games brand new. This Amazon link says it’s $297.04 CND. Feel free to look around, it’s called “SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard”.

Hey George, any way you can pitch to someone about making a mechanical version of this keyboard. Steelseries does not seem to be interested in making the “butterfly” design anymore, and I’ve just gotten so used to the extra wide WADS that upgrading to a mechanical would just be painful. Also thanks for being such a cool (heh) company, rocking your water cooling on the 6700k and man does that thing get low. 😀

I’m currently using a Steelseries Stealth Merc, but it’s considered a legacy device by Steelseries and is running into some problems with drivers on Windows 10. Between that and general wear, I’d like a replacement.

Does anyone know of a keyboard of a similar style? I’ve become accustomed to having the huge section of keys on that side, and it’s far nicer than trying to sort out keybinds around a standard WASD layout, but I can’t find anything similar.

From what I have seen, most people memorize their “rotation”, and hide the buttons. They only keep out buttons that have CDs out, so that they know when its up.

I use a Steelseries Merc Stealth gaming keyboard, which overlaps some keys to give you about 20 buttons. I normally can only reach from `-6, and R,F,V,Z,X,C.

I also have a gaming mouse, giving me about 6 extra buttons to play with. Overall, this allows me to keybing almost everything without using alt or control modifiers.

I am currently using the Merc Stealth and I love it! I tried a Logitech g13 gaming keyboard and it just isn’t laid out very well, the Stealth is much more intuitive a layout.

Those are the two I could dig up, although the former isn’t a shopping page, and the latter is /quite/ expensive, neither are mechanical however.

Personal selection has always been Merc Stealth keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Merc-Stealth-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00292OW1U
(no longer made so the ones laying around are VERY expensive)

And…

Razor Naga mouse.

http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268

Pros: Both have exceptional key mapping options(more buttons=good) The Merc stealth WILL change the way you play overnight. I am unable to use a normal keyboard after using a Merc stealth for nearly 10 years.

Cons: Both are low quality and tend to burn out after about a year.

Just an Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UH_UCACyDE – review of Merc Stealth in 2010 will show its MSRP for $100. I not sells 2nd had for nearly $300. If you can find one cheap buy it!

I got a steel series keyboard with a “gaming pad” on the left side with resized buttons – feels much more comfortable to me, couples with a Naga-style mouse for easier access to the 1 to = range myself.

http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Merc-Stealth-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00292OW1U/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1438011712&sr=8-9&keywords=steelseries+keyboard

Don’t pay that price for it, I got it for $75 on sale. There are also comparable and likely superior versions of it.

As for the mouse…

http://www.amazon.com/Redragon-M901-High-Precision-Programmable-programmable/dp/B00GU8W5AE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1438011860&sr=8-2&keywords=red+dragon+mouse

Cheaper and better quality (IMHO) version of the Naga, with slightly angled buttons making it far, far easier to know where your thumb is.

Not exactly what you are looking at I’m sure, but definitely an alternative in the same vein for trying to get a control system that works for you in place.

This is my current keyboard but I have downsized my desk drastically and would like a smaller keyboard. Red’s sound like they are the ticket. Thanks!

Well that’s a bit disapointing — it seems like everything from Ideazon has been discontinued because of a buy-out by Steel Serries.

So the gamepad no longer exists, but the design is used on steel series stuff like this

I still use this from YEARS ago and the wasd on the far left is so worn away I can see the LEDs underneath the buttons. People are selling it for $300 used. O_o

Edit: I just saw that this one is being sold for $1700…
