You should really never need to physically connect to a server.

Instead of a monitor/keyboard/mouse in my trunk I carry one of these. Lets me use my laptop as a crashcart. Kind of expensive, but I use it all the time and saves me a lot of space.

There are keyboard-video-mouse dongles that allow you to use a laptop as the “head” for a system. Maybe that would be ok?

I do network and server administration and we have well-stocked vans for any call I need to go on that I think might require power tools or cable pulling. I also just decided to remove my big “IT toolbag” from my car because I almost never look in there anymore since I stopped doing desktop and infrastructure cabling work. So all I have left is a messenger bag, which I forget at home or the office half the time.
In my laptop messenger bag, I have:
- 13″ Laptop + Charger
- USB-Serial Cable
- StarTech Crash Cart Adapter
- iodd Virtual ODD External Drive (with 256GB SSD loaded with all my ISOs – also serves as my external drive for moving random stuff)
- The venerable Klein 32500 and a precision screwdriver set
- Exacto knife
- Sharpies
- A couple Velcro ties and a few random small cables
