The go-to cheapo Is the Soundcore Motion+ but getting a bluetooth speaker (of any price) is all about compromises, so you gotta figure out how you want to use it.
·
Between those 3 I’d choose the Motion booms. The W kings are nice and bassy, but almost sound like sandpaper in the treble, the flare is alright, but doesn’t compare well to the motion boom.
That said, I’d also suggest look at the Soundcore Motion + Much better clarity than the boom, get louder and can be used with an Aux input if you ever need to. Battery doesn’t last as long, but not a huge difference. Lose a Little bass at high volume.
·
For something you can fit easily in a backpack, take a look at the $100 Soundcore Motion+, for how compact it is it sounds great and get impressively loud; irrespective of price, you’re not likely to find better for this size.
·
Anker Soundcore Motion+ is the best choice. $85 on Amazon right now. Better than JBL and sony. This is the hottest speaker out now. All reviews are great and all comparisons to the JBL and Sony go heavily in the Motion+ favor.
·
>Something about how the room interacted with the speakers as well as a boost of bass from the receiver
Funny you should mention room interactions.
In my previous townhome rental I had a squirrel problem, they’d come in around a gap in the outside of my chimney. Landlord suggested loud music to scare them away. I had an Anker Soundcore Motion+ handy. My wife stuck it in the fireplace on top of the andiron and I closed up the fireplace with a foamcore sheet in the front. It somehow made that little speaker sound amazing. I think it was due to the metal chimney framing and maybe the flue was acting like a bass port, and maybe the foamcore dampened any reverberation. It developed a wider range and deeper bass, with still great clarity. Somehow closed in there it became an outstanding speaker, and if I took off the foamcore front, it lost the effect.
We ended up using that pretty regularly even after the squirrel left. 🤣
·
The Soundcore Motion+ is what I would recommend. I wanted to get my dad a new speaker for his garage/man cave and it’s amazing. Can get pretty loud, portable, sounds great.
·
For less than $100 you’re not going to find better than Anker’s own Soundcore Motion+
Seems similar-ish size and shape to your older speaker. Best sound quality for <$100
·
What’s your budget and what are you looking for in a speaker: size? Waterproof? Battery life etc.
The first one I’d look at is the $100 Soundcoe Motion+ sound quality is unmatched for a <$100 portable speaker, gets about 4x as loud as your UE and can pair up to 100 of them.
·
I have an Extrem 2. It’s great but sort of a pain in the butt to lug around. If I’m going car camping I’ll take the JBL, but for backpacking I’d reccomend soundcore motion+ which sounds about as good, and is louder. Not as durable, but an easy size to throw in a backpack.
·
What’s your budget?
Would something that’s powered through the cigarette lighter work? or does it need to be battery powered?
For $100 I’d recommend looking at the the Soundcore Motion+ but there’s dozens of these that may be better depending on your needs and budget.
·
Define “best”
First ones I’d reccomend looking at are the $100 Soundcore Motion+and $100 Soundcore Trance Go But it really depends how you are planning on using it, and what your tastes are.
·
If you paid $50 you’re SOL
If you paid the Full $100 (which I hope you didn’t) check out the Soundcore Motion+
·
Hey, what’s you budget, and how do you plan on using it?
I was pretty happy with the charge 3, but the bass was pretty thin. I would only reccomend the Flip if you need something super compact.
To start with, check out the $100 Soundcore motion+ which has a great sound signature all around, but you lose bass at higher volumes. Also take a look at the $95 Soundcore Motion Boom which has good bass at higher volumes, but gives up clarity and definition for the rest of the range.
·
Take a look at the $100 Soundcore Motion+ and maybe the $160 UE Megablast
·
$100 is going to be full of compromises, and there’s not going to be an overall “best” some will be better at different things, but the first ones to look at are these:
If you can stretch your budget a little more you might be much happier with this:
·
The Sony XB43 is a great speaker if you can get a good price on it. Very robust and sound quality is about as good as you can get at this size (I personally don’t care for the sound signature though). I would not pay MSRP for it though. I don’t know how to say whether it’s loud enough for your needs though. At 100% volume it’s maybe loud enough for a small backyard or camp site. Some Alternatives may be worth looking at that are louder:
Turtlebox – Pricey, bigger
Anker Soundcore Motion+ – Surprisingly loud for how small it is. Crystal clear mids, but you’re giving up definition in Bass and high treble
Anker Soundcore Rave Neo – Definitely bigger. Nice punchy bass, but overall sound quality just OK
·
Ok man now I “feel” like I’ve got a certain sense of what you’re after. I’m not sure it exists. but based on EDM, Pop, Rock really I think it’s time to try the non-high end choice.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P39MLKH?pf_rd_r=J379D10DE8EC5XBSSK15
Have you given it a try yet? You should. It really isn’t high end per se, but does sound good. It can be custom eq-d reasonably flat, and has a natural airyness than the Marshall Stanmore II. It isn’t omnidirectional, but because of the tweet facing, it isn’t super directional either. I think the biggest flaw is … it’s a smaller speaker so it won’t produce the lower bass tones as the marshall. but with EDM, Pop, and Rock that maybe ok. Amazon also has a very good return policy.
I mean what’s the harm, you just have to test that return policy. And if you’ve already tried her… well we will keep looking.
·
Yes, BUT it will deteriorate the lifespan of the battery over time. This popular science article explains in more detail.
Regardless, I am doing this now as a temporary solution, understanding the risks. However I plan on eventually switching to always plugged in speaker. If Anker had a switch (or even option in app) that allowed it to be powered solely by USB, (disabling charging) I think that would be great, but TBH I think the 5V 2A or 10W max charging speed is not enough to power the speaker at higher volumes, especially with bass boost. Though I could be wrong.
From an Anker Amazon Answer: Please note you can use this speaker while charging it, but we don’t suggest you use this speaker like this way as it will deteriorate the battery lifespan of your speaker.
·
Anker Soundcore motion+ for about 70 € ?
·
I thought you would shop at amzon spain? and then have them ship to portugal?
https://www.amazon.es/Soundcore-resoluci%C3%B3n-inal%C3%A1mbrico-reproducci%C3%B3n-Impermeable/dp/B07P39MLKH/ref=sr_1_1
In their shipping rates they even specifically mention portugal and the rates seem very reasonable.

Hmm so my reccomendation is the $100 Soundcore Motion+ but it actually cuts out at like 15khz, but the treble up to that is near perfect.
·
·
There’s no “best” speaker, only best for you, but given your needs I would look at these, pretty good compact cheap-o’s:
$100 soundcore Motion+ – it’s tiny, I swear
$200 Audio pro Addon t3 – maybe too big but give it a look
$198 UE Megablast or the much smaller $70 UE blast
·
Neither if these are great for audio quality (not bad though) you’re buying them for the convenience, just get whichever one you like the aesthetic of. If you want something louder or better sounding then maybe add the to your list:
I’d also think about holding out for a sale on a sony XB43 or HK Onyx Studio, they usually drip down to ~$120 every couple months
·
So first off, at this price point, you’re going to be limited by the sound quality due to the lossy nature of Bluetooth. If you’re looking fo something you’re going to be listening to over Bluetooth exclusively then I wouldn’t spend more than maybe $150-$200 because you’re going to be getting diminishing returns pretty quickly..
Portable speakers are almost always built for portability and durability rather than overall sound quality, there’s a lot of DIY solutions that will give you better audio fidelity, but if you’re looking for something off the Shelf I’d reccomend looking at these:
$100 Soundcore Motion + Great cheap-o: compact and rugged, surprisingly good audio quality
$180 Altec Lansing Rockbox XL emphasizes durability but still sounds good
The whole Marshall speaker lineup – All of them are great but give up some durability

Flip 4 isn’t terrible, but it’s not great either. For $100 you’re not going to do better than the Soundcore Motion + for a compact portable speaker.
There were some good deals before Christmas, but I don’t think you’re going to find a better speaker for <$200 right now, but you may also look at the Doss Soundbox XL and Bugani M83 if you’re willing to go bigger.
·
https://www.amazon.ca/Soundcore-Bluetooth-Extended-Customizable-Waterproof/dp/B07P39MLKH/ref=sr_1_1
Honestly your choices are pretty lean. for me it came down to the soundcore motion+ for (CDN $91) or the Doss Soundbox XL for (CDN $85). For the money the soundcore motion+ is just the better speaker. For either speaker you can use a 3.5mm cable to connect your PC to the aux input of the speaker.

·
Hey, just a heads up to avoid misunderstanding, i’m referring to the soundcore motion+ and not the soundcore flare 2. This video convinced me and is a pretty good review
And this is the amazon page: Amazon
EQ stands for equalizer. An EQ basically finetunes the different frequencies of an audio device to one’s liking. This is the EQ i use and comes from the same youtuber that made the review i posted.
I hope this helped 🙂
