Not sure if any of the cheaper generic brands on amazon are worth getting.

Just out of curiosity, were you able to find a fix? I’m in the same boat and after doing a little research it sounds like there’s not really a viable option for 3rd party (even though I have Sony) headphones and to also use the mic for chat.

/sigh

Before I get into all of my preferences I should start by saying I’m extremely new to sound and knowing what good sound quality is and isn’t. I bought these from best buy and loved everything about them but returned them because my ps4 did support wireless headsets. Now I miss the sound so much that I’m thinking about buying them back, but before I do I’m wondering if anyone had suggestions on better sound for my money?

Budget – No more than $150, preferably closer to $100

Source – iPhone 6s and PS4 audio jack, but I would really love something with wireless bluetooth so my cat can’t destroy the cord.

Isolation – A lot of isolation. I’ll mostly use these in my dorm room and sometimes it can get noisy with two roommates and an AC unit. I’ll also use them while biking and longboarding.

Using these in public? – Yes, mostly while studying in the library or at class.

Preferred Type – Over ear… is that “full sized”? I want them to fit around my ears not on top of them.

Preferred Tonal Balance – I’m not particularly a bass head but I really enjoy bass. I also would like to be able to hear crispy mid and highs. I guess a good overall balance with more attention to bass. I like to hear the boom.

Past headphones – I’ve only ever bought the above pair and some crummy Skull Candies that broke in a month.

Preferred Music – Rock, Folk with a lot of guitar picking and falsetto, edm, house, some rap, hiphop: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kendrick Lamar, Passenger, The Lumineers, Saint Motel, Hippie Sabotage, Knife Party.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up? – Like I said I’m super new to it all and I’m not sure what I’d like but I really love Bose’s crispy mid and highs and Sony’s Bass. Until recently I’ve just been buying cheap Skull Candy earbuds and then when my cat finally gets a hold of them and destroys the cord I buy a new pair. Now I’m looking for good quality and durability… And replaceable cords.

Thank you so much for the help!

Looking for some noise cancelling headphones. Considering purchasing these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUGEYT7/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Are there better options around for around the same price range?

Hello all!

I need to upgrade my headphone listening environment at home.

Sorry for posting a ‘recommend me’ post, I have read the wiki and the recommended DAC + AMP’s here.

I am new to Audiophile equipment, but a long time Audiophile myself. I listen to music for approx 10 hours a day on my headphones:

I know my headphones are newb headphones… I got them before I was really into Audiophile equipment and did not know any better… The Bose headphones sound clearer by far, but I prefer the depth and bass of the Sony headphones. I don’t mind my headphones… however I have never heard better headphones so I am naïve and do not know any better.

I do not use Bluetooth, the quality is to poor, I use a standard 3.5mm cable and plug it into my laptop.

Laptop

I need to upgrade my headphone listening environment at home. I work off of a laptop at my desk for hours. I think my next step in my upgrade is a DAC + AMP. However you guys might recommend that my next steps is my headphones.. I think I want a separate DAC & AMP so I can be more modular and mix and match some.

I listen to Rap, and instrumental music like Two Steps from Hell. I also like Trip-Hop and trance like Infected Mushroom for example.

Questions

——————–

  1. Should I upgrade my headphones or get a DAC + AMP?
  2. What AMP do you guys recommend?

    1. I am not afraid to spend $$ for quality, but please don’t be absurd on the price unless if its really worth the price
  3. What AMP do you guys recommend?

    1. I am not afraid to spend $$ for quality, but please don’t be absurd on the price unless if its really worth the price

I have done hours of research on all the above, and just feel like I am going in circles and shooting in the dark.. Any advice from you veterans would be much appreciated!

I would consider myself one and gonna have to say nah.

I got these wireless sony headphones a couple years back and they top anything else I tried. I even originally wanted wired ones but they were out of stock. They converted me. Wireless ftw

Yeah they are not a good value from what I can tell (who the hell wants cortana in their headphones?).

I would much rather get some SONY MDR-XB950n1’s that cost $120.
