I have the (last generation) Sony XM3’s and they work flawlessly. There is a newer generation XM4 which is also great, but I’m not sure the minor upgrade is worth +$150.

These are comfortable enough to wear over ears literally for an entire work day.

It’s better than the newest one.

Don’t get into a fight, all your neighbors are pissed too probably. Borrow someone else’s knife. Don’t use your own.

These noise cancelling headphones have been a life saver for my relationship with my partner. Whenever he is eating, I put them on so I don’t have to leave the room. I also take them everywhere. I was at the doctor’s office the other day and this guy was loudly chewing and snapping his gum. These headphones saved his life.

Hear me out on this. Sony WH-1000XM3. New they were $350 (USD), but there is a new model out (very few changes) and so prices are lower. They have some of the best ANC out there, 40 hours of battery life (30 hours with ANC on) and fast charging. They’re super comfortable and customizable with the app.

Looks like they are $298 (CAD) new on amazon and I’m sure you can find them cheaper used/refurbished.

I love mine, they’re the best headphones I’ve ever owned.

If your TV has bluetooth then I’d highly recommend wireless noise canceling headphones. I can personally recommend the Sony WH1000XM3. I’ve had them for a couple years and they sound great. The retail price is high, but there’s a newer model out, so if you peruse the other sellers you’ll find people selling them in ‘like new’ condition for well under $200.

However this only works if you’re watching alone. Otherwise it’s probably better to invest in a good sound bar instead.

If you are only choosing between these two, go for the Crusher Evo.

If ANC is very important to you, you can do a lot better for around $200. The Sony WH-1000XM3 is available for $229.99 on Amazon.

Have you looked into Sony Wh1000xm3s? Here pretty soon you could probably find a good deal on some. I haven’t heard them personally, but I’ve read good things. Not sure how the bass is, or comfort for that matter. Best thing I could suggest from my experience would be the Dt990s, or HE4XX with an amp and some bass EQ’d in there. The 4xx with a decent bass shelf slams pretty good and the treble isn’t as rough as the 990. Either way it’s hard to get good bass without an amp at that price. If you haven’t already, check out r/HeadphoneAdvice and r/AVexchange. You could have a decent setup used for $300

Edit* wh1000xm3 on amazon for $300

The Sony Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones have actually changed my life. They are SO good. I could give so many examples of times when these suckers have worked almost too well. My brother was pounding on my front door one time when I was working from home and I never heard it, he had to go around to the kitchen window and flail his arms to get my attention. Anyway, they are pricey but worth it. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07G4MNFS1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_h13NFb1XCYB0T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Duh, I forgot about that somehow.

Not sure of any wireless NC headphones with replacable batteries, honestly. The Bose QuietComfort 25 is a wired set and takes AAAs, which gives you close to 10 hours of use.

If you wanted to go the long-lifespan but non replacable route, the Sony WH-1000xm3 is a pretty decent (imo) Wireless NC set of headphones (around $349). Bose QC35 has Micro-Usb, so that’s probably a no-go.

I want the Sony WH1000XM3 headphones. They’re on for $350 right now on amazon. Do I pull the trigger? How much do they normally go on sale for? I haven’t really followed them much before right now so not sure the typical sale price.

I purchased a Sony WH-1000XM3 about 3 months ago. However, the unit that I received produced static noise in the right ear when Noise Cancellation was on, so I had it replaced. The second unit had the same problem, so I had that one replaced as well. All in all, I’m on my third unit (the second replacement) and this one seems to work well enough. The thing is, I’ve been without the headphones for these 3 months and just recently, as I received the latest unit, Sony released the WH-1000XM4. So my question is – is there any way I can exchange this brand new 1000XM3 for the 1000XM4 and pay the difference? Kinda like a phone trade-in? Is that possible at all?

1 point

·

thanks for the advice!

maybe a dumb question but are those different from the WH-1000XM3? i can’t seem to find the XM4. perhaps it’s a regional difference?

and with regards to the Bose models, is that the QC35 and the 700? is there an agreement as to which of those two models is superior?

XM3 on Amazon Warehouse on sale right now for $235.
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1/

This was on sale during black friday too and a lot of people got them with no issues but some people including me got different headphones (I got sent an XM2 inside an XM3 box). Thank goodness getting a refund was no issue.

If you can stretch it a bit further the Sony WH1000XM3 are on sale for $350 in most places this BF. I got this for myself a few days ago at this price, specifically for the noise cancelling, and they have become my main driver. They have bluetooth built in and tend to sound a touch warmer with some extra bass compared to something like Bose who is more neutral.

Even though beats is owned by Apple, I still don’t like them and Ill probably never buy them. I highly recommend the ones I mentioned in my post (Amazon link), but the new Bose ones are just as good, and Ive heard good things about the Microsoft equivalent. Ive seen reviews of people literally twisting the headphones out and pulling the headband straight. Ive had no problems other than in weather below 32F, but turning them off an on again fixes it. Amazon has a good return policy so I really recommend you at least try them out, or in store at a Best Buy.

I let the TV do the upscaling with HD blurays. I have the Sony 4K HDR bluray player, the 2nd best one they make. It doesn’t upscale well. But its 1080 out is AWESOME, the TV then takes that 1080 and does a great job showing it.

Sounds like the Beats left a dry taste in your mouth.

If your looking at the 350$ price range why not go for the Sony WH1000XM3.

If you can get a good deal on them they are better sounding def last you longer.

So, these headphones have the ability to turn off the noise cancelling function:

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1

They also have an option to hold your hand up to the right earcup and it will drop the sound/music/noise canceling temporarily, so you could have a conversation without taking the headphones off. Not sure how well this would work for someone who is hard of hearing, but it’s the first thing I thought of – a friend has an older model of these and loves them

I live across the street from a bar. They play loud music with a lot of bass every night. It makes me nauseous. I have tried a lot of things to block out the low frequency noises, and have finally found a solution.

Active noise cancelling headphones:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G4MNFS1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
I have used a number of different hybrid noise cancelling headphones. They work for most sounds, but low frequencies always seem to get through. I recently decided to bite the bullet and spend the $250 USD and buy myself a pair of Sony WH1000XM3 headphones with noise cancelling. When the bar started up their music, I put the headphones on and started crying because I experienced instant relief. I wear glasses, so wearing over-ear headphones for long periods can be painful. I find that I can wear these for eight hours without much discomfort.

Brown rain:
https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/whiteRainNoiseGenerator.php
If the noise cancelling on the headphones isn’t quite enough to block out the low frequency sounds, adding a brown noise helps. I like the MyNoise White Rain generator calibrated to a brown frequency. You can use the website or the app.

I hope you can find a solution.

I appreciate the time and great information you just gave me, unfortunately for me I have Ocd and therefore I become obsessed with the noise at those hours, I sleep with earplugs but when they start to fly by that early, I use the noise cancelling headphones, so in all honesty is a “me” problem but regardless I feel kinda powerless, I didn’t know about that last info, good to know, I’m 15 miles away from the airport so it could have been worse.

I found these to be pretty funny, Take Care & Cheers!

I recommended both the Sennheiser and Jabra for wireless earbuds.

If you want bigger headphones, these are fairly highly regarded, but they are twice your budget:

https://drop.com/buy/drop-wireless-headphones/

For something closer to your budget, these are well regarded by the general public, though you’ll have to search through the reviews to see how well they pair with classical:

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1

They’re $50 over your budget, so if you want to stay within budget, you could consider buying the international version with a more limited warranty:

https://www.amazon.com/WH-1000XM3-Wireless-canceling-Headset-International/dp/B07H2DBFQZ/

And you could save another $50 by buying them renewed (no free returns, though):

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-WH1000XM3-Headphones-WH-1000XM3-Refurbished/dp/B07HJ87WJD/

Personally, I own the Plantronics Voyager Focus. They’re more commonly used as a business-oriented headset, but I really enjoy how music sounds on them, and they use a high-quality Bluetooth codec (aptX). There are a bunch of different Amazon listings for them; I’ll post multiple listings so you can see more reviews:

Hope that helps!

This question has been asked before, even with the same price in question.

In short, for around $200, there are much better choices for ANC headphones out there. If ANC is a priority for you, the Sony WH-1000XM3 is available for $229.99 on Amazon right now, and those are the pinnacle of ANC headphones (just behind the new XM4 model).

Otherwise, go for the Crusher Evo. Better build, better sound, and I’m more confident in the their build quality over the Crusher ANC.

If you look at the Product Detail Page ( https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1 ) for the XM3 on Amazon, you get lots of matches:

  • Qn1 Processor
  • Smart Listening
  • Sense Engine
  • 30 Hours Battery Life
  • Bluetooth NFC
  • Carrying Case

The second product image is even the same.

EDIT: I linked amazon but you should be able to find them cheaper elsewhere. The new XM4’s have come out/coming out, so I assume the XM3 will get marked down more.

2 headphones listed as the same name, but a different price on amazon

So my surface headphones broke a few days ago, and I’ve been trying to find some new similar headphones. From what i can tell the Sony WH 1000XM-3 are the best wireless noise cancelling headphones. However, on amazon there are 2 listings, one for $350 and one for $250. Both have thousands of reviews.

For over ear headphones, suggest Sony WH1000XM3. They were consensus top-rated noise-cancelling wireless headphones for several years (e.g. on The Wirecutter review site), and just replaced by new XM4 model and so you can get them $100 off prior price (down to $250 on Amazon. You can just cup your hand over one side and it switches from noise cancelling to transparency mode.

Note those over-ear headphones are just noise-cancelling; for noise ISOLATION you need in-ear earbuds. Sometimes on flights I’d put my earbuds in, listening to music on them, and wear the Sonys over them for noise-cancelling only (so both noise cancelling and noise isolation), but that won’t work for you to readily hear others.

That wasn’t my point, I meant that ~~good~~ audio is expensive. For example: these bluetooth wireless headphones
