I have a set of Sony noise cancelling ear buds, they work great and only fall out if they get knocked. Budget is relative, they used to be £250-300 and are down to around £150 at the moment which was low enough for me to pull the trigger.

I love the Sony WF-1000XM3 I have as they are proper noise cancelling and have a good enough fit to not fall out while running outside. They come with a real selection of tips to mean they’ll fit your ears, sound good, and do hands free.

I think you’ll find I’m talking about Sony’s in-ear, true wireless, ANC headphones. Not their (admittedly similarly and confusingly named) over-ear counterparts, the W*H*-1000XM3.

Take your own advice and read what the other person said.

>but they fall behind other options like the galaxy buds plus and jabra elites in things like portability, earbud size, and battery life

Do they? I’m not trying to be difficult here I genuinely don’t know. Looking at the amazon product page and addressing the 3 points you mentioned:

Portability – Sony comes in a very close 2nd place on the size comparison behind the galaxy buds.

Product Dimensions: 3.5 x 2 x 2 cm ; 95.3 g (SONY)

Product Dimensions: 6.2 x 3.7 x 2.7 cm ; 45.4 g
(JABRA)

Product Dimensions: 1.8 x 1.8 x 2.3 cm ; 99.8 g
(GALAXY+)

Battery Life – Sony wins if ANC is turned off (fairest comparison considering the others don’t have ANC even with ANC on it’s only beaten by 4 hours by the Jabra elites)

You have up to 24 hours listening time with noise cancelling on. The headphones offer 6 hours of power and the handy charging case provides an extra 3 full charges. Battery life for each charge is extended up to 8 hours when noise cancelling is off. (SONY)

Up to 7.5 hours on a single charge, 28 hours in the charging case, and fast charge. (JABRA)

Play Time with Case 22 hrs (GALAXY+)

Earbud size – This is a much harder comparison to make as everybody will have a different fitting preference. As I don’t have all 3 I wouldn’t be able to tell you how they fit in my ears. Going by the pictures it looks like the Jabra’s and Sony’s are about the same size. The galaxy buds+ look a bit smaller and don’t appear to have a contour pattern like the other 2.

If we look at the prices right now, the buds+ are the cheapest but that comes in line with them being at the bottom of the comparison in every aspect we looked at (or bottom in 2 depending how you look at earbud size). (£112.87)

The Jabra’s are the most expensive right now coming 2nd place to the Sony’s in 2 of the aspects we looked at and joint 1st or joint last depending on how you look at the earbud size comparison. (£169.00)

The Sony’s are in the middle for price, however they took the top spot in all aspects we looked at (or top in 2 bottom in 1). (£166.00)

For the price, sound quality, battery life and portability surely Sony is the no brainer? Or am I missing something here?

Just as a side note, I own the Anker Soundcore life P2’s and have been looking for some better buds. I tried out a friends oneplus buds (got an early press review copy) and they are severely lacking for me, for double the price of the buds I have it definitely wasn’t double the quality. I was swinging towards shelling out for the Sony’s but I might wait to see what the XM4 has to offer before I pull the trigger.

At this price (~100€), this Sony WF-1000XM3 is a steal to be honest ! If you have someone living abroad, you can ask him to buy it for you.

Purchase advice Bluetooth Headphones without sweat and good fit

  • Budget – Flexible limit up to about 300€, would settle with less too tho.
  • Source – iPhone XR, Bluetooth
  • Requirements for Isolation – Shoudn’t block too much, wanna know what’s happening around me (Will be used mostly at home, but also outdoors, in public transportation or in the university)
  • Public? – Yes
  • Preferred Type of Headphone – I like full-sized, but good fitting IEMs are fine too, if they don’t mess with my glasses. And On-ear=no go.
  • Preferred tonal balance – Overall balanced.
  • Past headphones – For nearly two years now I had the Bose SoundSport wireless headphones, used them several hours every day. They got really quiet a few weeks ago, guess they are kinda broken so I need to replace them. I liked the bluetooth connection, they fit really well in my ears, didn’t make me sweat. Sound was good as far as I can tell, don’t have alot of experience. The cable in between the earbuds were a bit annoying from time to time, but not too much.
For my pc and gaming I am and will continue to use the Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME, which are really nice for their purpose. I’d like them to be wireless too, but for the PC the wire is acceptable. I really like that they are open and I hear what’s going on around me, like people asking for me and so on. I really like about them too, that they don’t make my ears sweaty, and mostly they don’t get too hot.
  • Preferred Music – I watch alot of YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, listen too hearbooks and I hear alot of different music, like rock, hip hop, rap, jazz, indie, metal, folk and so on, nearly no limits.
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up – I’d like a IEMs or headphones that are wireless, really comfortable, go well with my glasses, do not make my ears sweat. Noice cancellation like ANC would be interesting, but not necessary, since I don’t need it at home alot.
  • Location – Germany
  • What I tried and didn’t like – Sony WF-1000XM3 These just don’t fit my ears and feel uncomfortable to wear. Tried all six additional earbud tips and also three from Foamer, but they just feel bad to wear… Pairing and software seems really bad too with my iOS.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 These feel really uncomfortable too, tried the three additional tips. They seem heavy and chunky in my ears. The software is pretty laughable. I don’t even know if they block sound with their noice cancellation or because they just block my ears with their chunky design.
Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II) These were pretty nice tbh, sound and the noice cancellation and all seemed good. I still like the bose software/app better than those of Sony and Sennheiser. BUT after like 15-30 minutes my ears get hot and sweaty, which makes it really uncomfortable to continue wearing them. My Sennheiser PC 360 never make my ears sweaty and hot…
Bose SoundSport Free Fully Wireless Sports Headphones These feel way too heavy in my ears. They seem to fit good in my ears, but after like 30 mins or more they start to hurt my ears with their weigth… It’s a bummer too, since other than that they are really nice. But I won’t buy Headphones that hurt my ears and make me take them out.
Note – How are all of these products rated SO GOOD in all of these test from e.g. Chip, but I dislike them so much..
I’m really confused and frustrated and I don’t wanna send back too many Amazon products lol, I’d really appreciate some good advice! Thanks in advance.
