I have an HP ZBook 15 G3, which is a big computer compared to the svelte ultrabooks available nowadays, but I use it on a lap desk (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015QLBNTY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) when I sit on my couch. The surface is flat so the fans can easily breathe. I don’t do anything intensive for extended periods when on the couch. When I do, I put it on my laptop cooler at my desk.
