I give my two cents since I own a pair (of the speakers).

To make a comparable speaker now given its diminutive size and performance would be far too expensive to make a profit from now — outside of a nich markets not geared to the average consumer, but audiophiles willing to pay a premium.

That said, after moving my M-7’s from my desktop to the dining/kitchen area because I couldn’t find a decent wall-mounted small speaker for a reasonable cost, I replaced my M-7’s with an inexpensive obscure brand of Chinese speakers called Singing Wood. Someone did a review on the self powered version and said they were pretty good so I took a chance on the passive ones. Much to my surprise they sound pretty good. And they were an acceptable size for my desktop — smaller than Miccas but with a 4″ woofer and 3/4″ tweeter.

I have a little ORB amp with optical input and sub out that serves me well. But if I were to replace it, I’d probably get one of these. Fosi Audio DA2120A

As far as smallish passive speakers go, these sound surprising good and they’re very inexpensive. Just the right size for desktop. Singing Wood T25 Passive 2 Way Bookshelf Speakers

I’d think the Dayton sub would be fine for under a desk. I use an inexpensive Monoprice 8″ sub and it’s perfect.

One thing I discovered recently: I tried out a USB to optical converter to feed the optical input on my little ORB amp, and it improved the sound immensly. Previously I had used a USB to analog DAC. Seems like whenever I use optical input over other methods the results are always better. That said, I’m also using one of these.

Signstek HiFi USB to Coaxial S/PDIF Converter (currently out of stock, but no doubt there are other options)
