Also check out the Senheiser PXC 550’s; I’ve done about an hour of research today on multiple wireless over-ears and these ones seem to take the cake.

They’re at $200 on Amazon. Not sure what their price history is, but I am pretty sure they used to be $300 and above. Their list price is now $220.

There’s a lot of stuff out there, happy shopping everyone

Can anyone comment on if this is a big improvement over the Sennheiser PXC 550?

I have the PXC 550 and it’s good but I tend have BT connection issues randomly and when I use the mic in wireless mouse people say I’m stuttering in and out

Wondering if these Sony’s are better

I’m not sure if this deal is available for you, as it is a UK Amazon link. It’s in a MASSIVE sale right now too.

Let me know if this works:

Dude, I know how frustrating it can be, looking for something and getting swamped with info and options. So let me try and clear things up for you:

  • You want wireless (i.e. Bluetooth). This eliminates most of the obvious (wired) options. This is a good thing!
  • You want comfort and battery life. So does everyone else.
  • If you want ANC there are basically two options: Bose QC 35 II or Sony XM3. Both cost about $100 more than your budget. Sure some cheaper models (like the Sennheiser HD 4.50) do include ANC, but it is a heck of lot less impressive than that of the Sony or Bose. At this point you can either decide to save up another $100 (you can do it!) or forget about the ANC.
  • All wireless models I’ve seen also offer the option of connecting via wire.

Assuming that you will stick to your budget, you only have a few options remaining. Well, you have dozens of no-name Chinese headphones and one mainstream option:

  • Sennheiser PXC 550 ($269 from Aussie Amazon). Decent ANC and comfort, excellent battery life. From where I’m sitting this is exactly what you are looking for.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Probably you’d be looking for something more along the lines of the Sennheiser PXC 550, but it’d be preferred by everyone if you use the format.

> These retail for around $350 so this is a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Just FYI, Amazon sells them for $230 brand new and for $170 refurbed. You might have better luck if you drop the price. (I’m not actually interested. Just saw your post.)

Ok so for a bit more background, I’m looking for something or something’s that will cover late night music listening, and a commute on the bus to work.

I originally wondered if an expensive pair of wireless could perform in both and of into my set up at home (FX audio D6)

Every review of the M3 I see is flowing but these guys send to have air miles for days or slut next to some air conditioning in a nosey open plan office. I do neither of those so questioned wether ANC is actually worth it.

I have a budget of about £280 but can only use Amazon UK.

Rather than just buy the M3s I think I’d like 2 sets. For home use in pretty set on the AKG 361/371. Which model depends on the wireless cans I pick up. Within my budget there seems to be 4 stand outs

PXC 550

[Brand new Phillips were the reviews are excellent ] Black (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Z89CGS5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nH7bEbAF4HPFR)

H900N

Jabra Elite 85

Do you recommend any of these, or is there a combination of Wired closed back , and wireless closed back the would fit in the £280 budget you recommend ?

I have recently purchased the AirPods (2nd gen), AirPods Pro, and PXC 550. I am an IT guy and an Apple nerd who listen to podcasts and a wide genre of music, but am not an audiophile by any stretch. I did some comparison reading and reviews on rtings.com as well as other sites before purchasing so I had an idea of the AirPods Pro and Sennhesiser PXC 550 before purchase.

AirPods Pro

To me the AirPods sounded just like their wired version, I couldn’t notice a difference. They did hurt my ears (still haven’t figured out why as the size comparison between these and the wired versions is near identical – maybe the extra weight). I bought the AirPod Pros for $250 and when I excitedly received them in the mail I stuck them in and they sounded REALLY good! Maybe it’s the shape of my inner ear or something but after 10 minutes I could definitely tell they were in my ears. I swapped out tips for all of the various sizes and found the large tips felt the most comfortable but I could still definitely tell there was something in my ears – not like other reviews I have read where folks said they forgot they were in. I found the ANC on these to be fantastic and the control scheme with the “sticks” and setup/usage to be on-par with an Apple product. If you’re already in the Apple ecosystem these work wonderfully well when moving between devices (like running with them on my Apple Watch). The portability of these things is a huge selling point as I can fit them in the coin pocket of my jeans! I did however, end up returning them (sadly) though as they made my head feel “muddy” – I can’t think of a better word atm, YMMV greatly on this though.

Sennheser PXC 550

Next up, the Senn PXC 550 which I found on Amazon for $180 (as previous commenters have mentioned there’s a v2 just released). These are extremely comfortable headphones with amazing battery life. The ANC though is about half as good as the AP Pros, even when turned up to high (it has two levels), I did notice the same “pressurized” feeling as the AirPods Pro – I initially thought it was just the AirPods but now realize it’s the ANC at work. I didn’t find the AirPods Pro venting to be helpful to me, but I’m just one person. As a glasses wearer I find them to be very comfortable and not press into my temples and I can wear these things for hours. I’ve tested them with music, podcasts, and phone calls and everything sounds great. I haven’t taken them out of my house yet but I suspect walking around with them and traveling would be not nearly as much fun or enjoyable since I can’t fit them in my pocket.

Even with the slight bit of pain from the AirPod Pros I am reconsidering purchasing them again – they’re that good! I hope this helps with your decision, both of these headphones are great but have different selling points. Let me know if you need more detail on a different aspect of either of these two models.

The Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless, the over ear noise cancelling smart headphone contemporary to the XM2 and QC 35 series 1 are being heavily discounted right now on amazon. The new budget alternative from Phillips are also being discounted at a slight better price.

How can they be better than MM-550X? I have bought those twice over the last 4-5 years and those are pure perfection. What is there to improve?

Edit: I have just found a “new gen” of my MMX, this PXC-550. Well I know what I’ll buy when my MMX goes away 🙂

Edit 2: Do they have built in battery? I really enjoyed having a new charged battery ready to swap with the old one in my MMX.
