Love my Sennheiser Momentums, ~$315 on Amazon. Over ear, super light and very comfortable, great seal around the ears. And they sound beautiful. Review

The sennheiser momentums are a pretty good example. Not super cheap but very good quality for the price imo.

I think most people will tell you here that active noise canceling (if that’s what you’re referring to) is a little gimmicky, in that a good fraction of the money you’re spending is on the ANC technology and not necessarily SQ. I’d recommend headphones with good passive noise isolation, but you can read more about it here. The same thing could be said for bluetooth/wireless availability — another fraction of your money spent there. There exist other demerits about bluetooth headphones, but I’m not all too sure on them.
If you’re adamant on keeping ANC and having it wireless, then you might be able to get a Parrot Zik 2.0 used for around $220ish or something like. My friend has one, and it does indeed reduce noise by a LOT. My opinion on that was that although it did block out a lot of noise, I wasn’t a huge fan of how it sounded, but YMMV — I’d check it out if I were you.
Otherwise, I’d go for something like the Sennheiser Momentum which goes well with those genres of music. Only thing is that it’s not wireless, nor is it ANC.
Best of wishes! And yes, the kind of headphones that indeed go around your ear like ear muffs are just called headphones. The ones that go into your ear could either be IEMs or just plain earbuds.
EDIT: Forgot you wanted wireless/bluetooth. Duh, sorry.

I am looking to step up my music listening experience and do not want to make a uninformed purchase. Although music is my focus it is worth mentioning they will be used for Skype/gaming but I do not want that to take away from the music. I would prefer a cost effective purchase. Sales are appreciated greatly but I do not want that to restrict my options. Ascetic and brand names is not what I’m looking for. Quality is my priority. Any advice at all would help immensely, whether it be recommendations or information. I have been trying to have a better understanding of the intricacies but I really could use some help.
These are currently on sale and something I have been considering.

Budget: Flexible $100-$250. Looking to start off strong first set.
Source: I have three 3.5 audio ports available. However I am not sure if the ACS56 is compatible with headphones as I have not been able to get it to work with my current headset; it works fine with the speakers.

Isolation: No strong feelings here, I would prefer if it had some isolation but it’s not a deal breaker. The purpose would be to use these at home.
Type: Full-sized
Tonal balance: I think I am looking for a Balanced or V shaped. I am too inexperienced to make this decision myself.
Past headphones: Cheep gaming headsets used for Skype/gaming.
Preferred Music: In order of preference; 80’s new wave, synth-pop, post punk, punk, tropical house. Synthesizer, saxophone, bass guitar, screechy sax/violin/flute, hooks, melody’s are all important to me. I think range/treble is a important factor but I just don’t know.
https://youtu.be/xjbBr1_rSD8?t=31- post punk / bass line, (screechy sound starts at 3:55)
https://youtu.be/TQt5JdZTD9k?t=28- New wave / Synthy sound. Give it like 30 seconds to get the feel.
https://youtu.be/Xr8NJVhwu2c?t=105- Good examples of hook/melody

https://youtu.be/XovoAKVOPOM?t=170- Sax solo / bass line / new wave
https://youtu.be/b6vSf0cA9qY?t=6 This is the tropical house stuff I like. Has that synth melody with some killer sax/flute, vocal hooks, and a solid 4/4 dance beat.

Sennheiser Momentum – There is a first gen and a second gen but the difference is that the second gen has bigger ear pads and has hinges so that they fold and are more portable. I have the first gen. They sound great and they’re now almost half the price I paid for them new – even cheaper used.

V-Moda M-100 – I also have these. I like the Sennheisers more but these have significantly more bass.
Also if you want to use the M-100’s as a headset, this thing works very well including on phones.
Both look great in my opinion and they sound great. The Momentums weigh less and they clamp a lot less but both are still very comfortable. I have small ears so any discomfort from the drivers touching my ears don’t occur but you can replace the pads with something larger if you need.
If you just want something for home use, I would reccomend open back headphones. Something like a Q701, K712, or a HE-400.
Real shit though, listen to the Beats and if you really like the sound, no problem in buying them. Buy what you like. Focus too much on the likes of others and you’ll never be satisfied. If you can listen to other headphones, that would be prefferable. Best Buy last I was in one had a few headphones on display to try. Guitar Centers usually have a good selection of headphones to try. I had a Frys Electronics near me that had the Sennheiser Momentums on display for testing before I bought them. There are a lot of people that also buy from Amazon and test them and return them using that as a demo until they find what they like.

Personally I would recommend the Sennheiser Momentums.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Momentum-Headphone-Brown/dp/B009QV15DU
They are a solid pair of headphones with very decent sound for mobile day to day drivers. Which is what I’m assuming you would be using a Bluetooth headset for anyways. These are wired but much better than a Bluetooth headset as far as quality and upkeep go.
