HD800, currently on a pretty significant sale for US terms

Don’t know how much he paid for the HD800 but assuming $1000 and I think that’s a vacuum tube version so it’s $2400.

HD800s are $1500: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Over-Ear-Circum-Aural-Dynamic-Headphone/dp/B001OTZ8DA

LCD-3 are $1945: https://www.audeze.com/products/headphones/lcd-3

That’s not close to twice as much. As mentioned in another comment, the Beyerdynamics T1 are a superior set of cans for significantly less than the HD800s.

Sennheiser HD800.

Kidding, kidding! But seriously, Sennheiser’s HD280 Pro are a pretty great value for $80. I’ve had a pair for almost ten years, and they served me well until I upgraded a few months ago.

/r/headphones does. Also if you think $300 is a lot, check out the Sennheiser HD800

Perhaps think I mis-phrased my question, Beats are not expensive per-se, just expensive in compared to the quality of sound they produce. If you are spending $150-$300 on audio equipment, why not get something that sounds nice? Besides, if you wanted to display your wealth, why not go for something like the Sennheiser HD800s or an expensive watch?
