the audio quality is not that good, it never is with gaming headsets. the THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) is <2% which is 20x more distortion that the HD 280 Pro @ 0.1%
in your price range check out the HD 429 its got the same THD as the HD 280 Pro and good reviews.

I currently game and listen to music on sennheiser hd 429, and quite frankly, they are incredible in all categories: comfort, audio quality, durability, and they are $36 on Amazon today, which is a steal. I haven’t paired them with a mic just yet but will likely go the zalman route soon. I highly recommend these headphones and they will be a significant upgrade for you.

I use a lot of headphones and headsets. I have $500 audio technicas, $100 sennheisers and $100 logitechs. I have tested the razer ones and it’s all opinions really
Logitechs have 3d surround sound (not that virtual kind.) which could be cool if you want to listen to footsteps, however the quality of the sennheisers is just better handsdown.
My suggestion?
Sennheiser 429 these used to be around $150 and they still sound better than every gaming headset. With your left over money pick up a mod mic like what ennova said, or my suggestion is a blue yeti mic. They are around $120, but you will sound like a pro.
If you’re really stuck on gaming headsets, the best one i have even used is the g430. That whole line is the same mic, but with different features depends on what you want. But the g430 is the cheapest in the line. 3d surround sound, still sounds better than speakers and most walmart/bestbuy headphones. Along with a decent mic.

Miles better option than shitty “gaming” headsets. Buy real headphones, even cheap ones, and get a clip on mic and you’re done. Better sound quality and same price.
Those are even open back so the soundstage should be good at something of that price point.

For about the same price you could get the HD 429 or any $35 pair of headphones, just do some research. Then buy a $3 splitter and a cheap microphone.
Overall you’ll get a better experience for about the same price. It may not have the surround sound but surround sound isn’t really worth it with headphones. You’ll still be able to hear what direction something is coming from even with stereo headphones.
