Just out of curiosity, how much are you doing this wherein storage is that big of an issue? I picked up one of these and I store all of my VST instruments, samples, and exports on it with absolute scores of room to spare. Perhaps more storage space is a better workaround than what you’re attempting and everything just becomes simple drag and drop.

I think I’ll get like 2-3 hdds and spread them around. Would something like this be reliable for a long time:

Seagate Portable 4TB External Hard Drive HDD – USB 3.0 for PC, Mac, Xbox, & PlayStation – 1-Year Rescue Service (STGX4000400) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRGSR16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_XQ429RCSMMSMXS6BN9SN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I’m not familiar with those brands. I (personally) would get something from a trusted brand like

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRGSR16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_BT3WMC3T7CG1JNM559BH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Or

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713WPGLL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_B3ECP64WQQ0GBMAWMSW3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

These are usually micro b to USB a so you can get something like this to connect it directly to the laptop

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GGKYIHS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_0GZAR8HE0VS4WBTSM6HT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Keep in mind these are hdds and not ssds so read/write speed would be slower. But if you’re using it just for time machine I guess it will get the job done.

I mean, honestly just bought a seagate to make sure everything is backed up (I was going to do it soon, but they got some good prices right now on amazon on seagates PRODUCT PLUG WARNING LOL : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CRGSR16/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I digress, my point is that’s exactly what I’m going to do right today is Fresh Start windows, hopefully that gets rid of it) I deleted some crypto miners (yes I know kinda conflicting to want all this protection, then install a crypto miner lmao) but MCPR works, but when I try to reinstall.. it fails at 69% :D.. and honestly don’t wanna spend another hour glued to laptop for them to just escalate it again, when I know I can figure it out on my own..

the whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth, I’d rather pay premium for all in one… protection and like you said, when it’s all said and done, yes it may not be top of the line in everything, but if it’s amazing in everything I need, (ID MONITORING PLUS INSURANCE) can even protect our cameras from being hacked, being as their cheap and probably super hacked already… and vpn services.. with a good interface..

but to sit here and think I thought my id was insured, and to find out nah… that’s in a higher tier..

and by the way we charge when you want, even the auto renewal is a pain in the ass with mcafee.. its like they wanna scavenge customers and leech it by sheer frustration… I don’t see how a simple tech couldn’t figure this out when I provided him the error logs and everything (didn’t click on it once, in fact they muted me when I suggested they click and look..

I really don’t like the remote connections, I can get use to it.. most of my information isn’t stored on my computer, I use it as a transition point and a backup tool.. to consolidate all my paperwork, etc etc..

but this is the second time, the program has failed.. Thankfully I got Microsoft Defender which may need to be disabled and is probably the cause, but right now its providing me with some protection.. unlike mcafee

and I hate to be petty but if I pay for 365 days.. I should get 365 days or credit. But to know
I paid a month in advance… on Christmas after spending the latter part of Christmas repeating program downloads for monero cause it keeps flagging and deleting it.. ) after verifying that I changed my auto renewal date(hell to do as well)

it’s just left a sour taste in my mouth, it isn’t the same company as it use to be when it was ran by a person who valued privacy over profit.. and they basically have left my identity open, giving me the false sense of security with transactions, and thing I’ve done over the past 2 years)

I’m always TLDR when I take my adderall Lol sorry.. just venting as this has been the most frustrating experience in my entire computer life, behind learning to mod files back in the day on gta san andreas.. or learning how to emulate games on old computers haha

in all honesty I’m backing up everything, going to try one more mcpr, preinstall, and then download from my account… but if it fails.. I may tell the supervisor.. keep the money remove the service and delete my financial information effective immediately, and just let the CFPB handle it from there for my refund

cause I think I’ve decided Norton.. just for the hell of it, I can’t find anything else that offers everything I want in one package like I do with top tier life lock package…

btw thanks for you’re time, patience, and responding to my clusterfuck of a post..

Earlier this year I had someone show me a 4TB external hard drive they had bought off Wish for around $25 (They usually cost around $100-$130). They were very happy, even somewhat smug that they’d gotten such an amazing deal. Yet for some reason the drive kept giving them an error when they tried to store more than a few gigabytes on it, so they asked me to take a look.

On the outside it looked like any other 2.5″ pocket drive, a small plastic rectangle with a USB connector on one end (like this). It had no identifying marks of any kind; no brand name, no model number, or serial number, if fact the outside had no markings at all. That was odd, but what I found really strange was the weight. Normal 2.5″ hard drives are almost balanced, you can usually hold them up with the tip of a finger at just slightly off the center point of one of the largest sides. This drive only seemed to have weight on one side, and felt too light.

I decided to open it up and take a look inside. After a few minutes of prying it turned out their “4TB Drive” was a cheap 16GB SD card in an adapter and a metal plate that had been hot glued to one side of the case for added weight. The seller had also messed with the SD card to make it appear to be exactly “4TB”. This would have made sense on a Mac, but on their Windows computer it should have looked like 3.63TB due to the conversion between decimal and binary (WTF does that mean?).

After showing the contents of the “external drive” to the now somewhat deflated owner, I left them with a reminder that if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

This.

For external HDDs, I use Seagate ones (these : https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRGSR16/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=seagate+4tb&qid=1630216249&sr=8-4) and they work flawlessly.

Just to add : you won’t be able to play your PS5 games directly from your external drive (be it HDD or SSD), but you can use it to store your games when you’re not playing them. To play them, you’ll have to copy them back to your internal drive.

With PS4 games, no issue, you can play them directly from your internal or external drives.

Yeah depending on how long you plan to keep the laptop (eventually upgrade day comes for us all), you may also want to consider a smaller faster hard-drive for the computer and then an external drive to store everything. This Seagate 4TB drive is what I use to store my movies and TV shows. I actually have two of them. Cost about $120 up here in local currency.

Now people with laptops come in two flavors, people who need laptops, and people who pick laptops because they’re the first thing. Now again budget depending if you have $500-$600 dollars we can build you a desktop computer that’ll have all the expansion room you want. You do lose Mac OS X but that isn’t always a deal breaker depending.

Wow I always forget how much cheaper things are in the US. Anyway keep us informed on which way you go and how it was installing the hard-drive yourself.
