I’ve got a Scosche Boombottle that I use on my commute. It’s not too bad, though it can be a little tough to hear clearly when it’s mounted down on the downtube. It’s much better if you have a cup/bottle holder mounted to your handlebars, but then you have to ride around with that thing sticking up from your handlebars.
On the plus side, it’s really easy to pause my music whenever I need to, there’s a big button right in the middle that functions as play/pause.

Sounds is very good quality. On the highest setting it lasts a good 8-10 hours. I charge it every 2-3 days.

The sound of this thing is amazing: Scosche Boom Bottle (albeit a not as stylish, but usable at the beach etc.)
If you need a bit more style (and don’t mind a higher price either ;-p) BeoPlay A2 sound great too.
note: no other portable speaker beats the weird looking boom bottle thing
