I’m using this setup and it works well. I bought this SanDisk SSD and it comes with the cable you need to connect it to the car. The SSD itself works very well. Keep in mind that Sentry Mode doesn’t always record when you think it should (see the occasional report of a car accident where no Sentry Mode even is recorded). In my experience it’s been better than 95% accurate though so it is a good solution overall.

Pretty much any external drive you get will be compatible with both. I think it just need to be formatted as FAT. But it should be right out of the box.
I’ve not used it on Mac, but this is the one I use. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-1TB-Extreme-Portable-SDSSDE61-1T00-G25/dp/B08GTXVG9P/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=61475951012&dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqKuKBhCxARIsACf4XuE0AQ–swAH9bRkmAQiUjSKS70thfErAD9idMGSP86y3pvMmZxIqt8aAoVDEALw_wcB&hvadid=2…

Gotcha.
When you say bottleneck you mean lag?
SSD sounds like the way to go and is making more and more sense. I saw this as an option.
So in my head it sounds like moving files from SD to SSD when in light room then move to an HDD for long term.

First let’s clarify: are you using Lightroom Classic or the new cloud-based Lightroom?
Second: I know very little about the OneDrive cloud storage service. But putting your raw files in a cloud service is a very bad idea IMHO, especially if that cloud service is managing, independently from LR, which files are actually on your computer and which files are “removed” (with pointers remaining) to save local physical space.
Third: you say OneDrive is nearly full. Do you actually mean you’re running out of cloud storage? Or do you mean your physical hard drive in your computer is nearly full? (Or maybe both?)
You may need to buy a bigger hard drive or an external drive, like the following, and completely forget about OneDrive.

I have 2 approaches on this. But what I would do is get a portable SSD. So something like this and place them there: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-500GB-Extreme-Portable-SDSSDE61-500G-G25/dp/B08GTXVG9P/ref=sr_1_5?

But I also don’t believe in throwing away photos. I understand the principles of the Konmari method but I also believe in never throwing anything that is irreplaceable and rare. If you have the space, I just have it stashed away. It’s just for something in the future or to show your kids or grandkids. But yeah, otherwise a portable SSD. I’m just not a big fan of putting anything on the cloud.

Hiya! This isn’t so much about photography but the storage. I’m looking to buy an SSD and have a toss up between these two – San Disk and a LaCie drive. Does anyone have any experience with these? I have a load of LaCie hard fives and they work well. But SSDs are new territory and I’ve never bought a San Disk drive. Any help is appreciated.

You can use the usb-c SSD for Time Machine and also for recovery.
