>Do you own protocol analysers? If you ever get your hands on one of these cables I would be interested to know what Samsung did wrong. Would lack of e-marker in a cable be a problem? I know the USB-C 3.1 cable I own that DOES work is e-marked.

I have quite a few for my professional work at Google. Also, I’ve got the Total Phase Advanced Cable Tester in my lab that I could run it on. It would immediately detect a missing e-marker.

This the one?

If you get an M1 MacBook, don’t buy any storage upgrades, they are ridiculous, they charge 200$ for an extra 256gb when a 1tb external ssd is only 160$ for 4 times the added capacity

USB C is slower but also less expensive. For more or less the same price as the one you linked, you can get a 1TB SSD like this one: https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Portable-SSD-1TB-MU-PC1T0H/dp/B0874YJP92/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1

Thunderbolt SSDs are way more expensive, so it’s probably not worth the difference.

I got the 500g version of this.

It plugs in to the left port in the console. The right port has a cheap hub, connected to my game controller, and a couple lightning cords. The back ports have cords, but are normally unused.

> It really that easy for me to just buy one of those compatible drives for the enclosure and use it like a new external drive?

Yes.

> Is there any other information I should be aware of before I buy and use it in this way?

Make sure what you get is all compatible. The external enclosures/adapters can support NVMe M.2 or SATA M.2, not both. So make sure what you get matches.

You could also just get a nice external SSD, like this Samsung T7 1TB drive, which is (for all intents and purposes) just an NVMe drive and USB adapter. Certainly looks a lot nicer than the M.2 adapters too.

I have a Samsung T5 with 1TB of storage that comes with USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A. it’s a lot more reliable because it’s an SSD.

Samsung T7 is the newer version that is even faster.

I recently got this:

https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Portable-SSD-1TB-MU-PC1T0H/dp/B0874YJP92/ref=sr_1_4

If you get it from the Samsung site they give a military discount, including veterans.

It is about as thick as 4-5 credit cards, but the same size otherwise. It fits in my wallet. I have not tested it with my phone yet, but IIRC it should work with an Android phone, not just computers. I intend to put stuff like Wikipedia on it, along with other stuff.

I read recently that SSD memory will be going down this spring as the memory manufacturers switch to a new process and will be selling current gen memory for less as it is phased out in preference for the newer generation. Right now 1 TB seems to be the sweet spot, but I am going to get 2TB when the prices go down.

When referring to computers Memory and Storage are two very different things.

That being said Samsung T7 is great

Sandisk Extreme Portable is good as well.
