I have a sleep disorder, so I have a collection of about 10 alarms clocks. After years fooling around with all that fancy “gradual wake”, “scent alarm”, and “chase it around your room” business, I’ve settled with cheap simplicity:
It’s $20. It’s analog, so you can set it in a split-second. It’s batter lasts forever. And it rings absurdly freaking loud.
And it’s not just that it’s loud, but because it rings a real bell, it’s clangorous. Digital alarms repeat exactly the same beep, so you can very quickly tune it out—I even own a digital alarm that says it’s 10db louder, but doesn’t come close in terms of actually getting me out of bed.
