No, a mattress pad before the memory foam craze meant like a mattress protector, like another cotton, sometimes lightly padded fitted sheet that is sometimes waterproof / water resistant which keeps your sweat and body oils from leeching into the mattress. ex https://www.amazon.com/-Mattress-Protector/dp/B003PWS9AI/

I have two different kinds, I like this one because it fits really well. The other one I have you put the whole mattress inside it and zip it up like it’s in an envelope but it’s kind of a pain.

This one works for me:

Have you tried using the waterproof pads that hospitals use? I think they’re called chucks, I think. I use them for my 10 year old who wets through her pull up frequently. Also, I would try getting larger pull ups, if possible. That cut down on wetting through for my daughter. And we used to use a plastic cover for her mattress, but because it was really loud, I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWS9AI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and I really like it.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You’re not a bad dad, and you’re doing what you can in a tough situation. I really commend you for making sure he knows you’re not frustrated with him. PM if if you want to talk.

I have these (http://www.amazon.com/SafeRest-Hypoallergenic-Waterproof-Mattress-Protector/dp/B003PWS9AI/) on every mattress in our house just for regular protection and nothing has gotten through them yet. For birth though, I’d go with the plastic sheet or shower curtain.

Not to put a damper on your hopes but….. neutering will help with this but may not solve it. I’m dealing with the same issue nearly 5 months post neuter. My rabbit Alan does it whenever my husband pisses him off. It is clearly a battle between the two of them. No idea why, my husband is amazing with him and Alan happily plays with him, shares food, and even cuddles. But every once in awhile Alan hops in bed and takes a big ol’ pee… only on my husbands side. For now, invest in some good quality mattress protectors and spare sheets and blankets. I highly recommend this one. Still water tight after plenty of washings, no odd crinkly sounds, and fits deeper mattresses.

Boo. I found one on Amazon that I alternate on my toddler’s twin bed, and it hasn’t been too bad. Here’s the link to the full size, and it’s much cheaper than an Oops Sheet but still has great reviews. I think the Oops Sheet is better, but sometimes I really have to think about which one I’m holding. It’s a worthy opponent.

I have two of these waterproof mattress covers, for the exact same reason and it really really works. Fluid never gets on my mattress, and I’ve washed and dried them several times, still works perfectly. They sell them at Bed bath and beyond also.

I use cotton bedding as well. I’d suggest picking whichever type of weave feels most comfortable to you (percale, sateen, etc). I’m currently using Threshold percale sheet sets from Target and Tommy Hilfiger sheet sets from Macy’s and love them.

Dust mite allergy is a big thing for many eczema sufferers (including myself), and my allergist recommended using dust mite covers for the mattress and pillow to limit exposure. I just bought this one on Amazon last week.

As for doing laundry, it’s a good idea to wash bedding using hot water weekly for cleanliness as well as to kill dust mites and bacteria etc. Fragrance can be a huge trigger for eczema, so I’ve been using All Free & Clear detergent and using white vinegar in a Downy ball for the wash. I also use dryer balls in the dryer instead of fabric softener (no fragrance and chemicals!).
