The one I have does not feel or sound like plastic. I know that noise/feeling that you’re talking about and I can understand not wanting to have that on your bed. This is the mattress protector that I currently have on my bed. I did so much research comparing them all until I finally just broke down and bought one because it seems like they all have some bad reviews. Anyway, I have HS and I also have a senior dog so occasionally there are mishaps from one of us! I don’t really even notice this being on the bed. I have had one from walmart (I don’t remember the brand) and also found it to be good. I think as long as you avoid any vinyl ones you should be good as far as not feeling that horrible crinkly awfulness.

This could be a language difference, but rather than something to kill them (poison), it should create a barrier that does not allow them to travel.

There are more on Amazon but here is an example: Queen Size SafeRest Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector – Vinyl Free https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PWNH4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6e01ybJN6W8YN

I’ve used this amazon waterproof cover. Even bought a second one for my other bed.

Its not crinkly and doesn’t make the bed hot. Like NewYabdl said I use the protector even when I’m not wearing.

nah, it’s not like a plastic sleeve. Here’s the top result on amazon. I have one similar I bought 10 years ago or so at a mattress store. They’re really nice for pillows so they stay white. You can let someone borrow your pillow and take the cover off and it looks brand new. Makes getting rid of an old mattress not so gross as well. I got mine at the suggestion of an allergist.

I just picked this one up off of Amazon.

I’ve had a Tuft And Needle for 4 years and I never had any issues with it…unfortunately I just had an issue with it sagging in the middle (didn’t cause pain, just annoying) so they’re shipping another one for free which is pretty cool.

Got some Casper Sheets and Casper Pillow on sale at Target…hoping everything works out for me.

Looking at the comments and threads on here it looks like my setup is a rookie on e(haha) but any suggestions or feedback are appreciated!

I wish I did.

I have one that I use, but it’s not perfect. It ads a little warmth. It does a pretty good job of not changing the feel of the mattress though. I tried a few that were just awful for whatever reason. I would have thought maybe they were too tight or something and that’s why it changed the feel of the mattress, but it wasn’t the case. It’s really baffling to me how much a protector can change how the mattress feels. Sheets alone don’t do it- that still feels nearly identical to nothing, but protectors make it feel so different.

But this is the one I use right now bc I’m too lazy to keep going. I find it only adds a little warmth, and doesn’t affect feel much at all. For the price, I just called it good enough. Bigger things to worry about these days, lol. I can’t offer you a glowing review about how it changed my life, but I’ll say that it works well enough that I don’t think about it on a regular basis, if that makes sense.

I’ve become a connoisseur of water proof bedding (incontinent older dog parent), and they’ve come a long way. The waterproof layers are imperceptible. These are my preferred brand because they also protect from allergens and have a terrycloth layer on the top. I’m not sure if they’d be enough for birthing, but my 50 lb dog has full on peed on them with no leakage

You really need to invest in one or two waterproof mattress protectors. They go over your mattress like a fitted sheet. The newer ones are much better than the ones made of vinyl that were uncomfortable to sleep on. There’s no crinkling sound when you move.

I’ve had this one since 2018 with an incontinent dog (controlled by medication but she has breakthrough accidents occasionally). Haven’t had any issues with it. But I also typically spot clean it rather than run it through the washer.

Don’t forget the mattress cover – for your bed. Milk leaking, diaper leaking, kid barfing, you could end up saving your mattress dozens of times. I buy two for each bed, and with a 2 and 4 year old still use them, because when they’re sick they inevitably stay in their own bed until 3 minutes before they’re ready to barf.

The one we like is on a good Black Friday deal today too:

I ordered this one from Amazon when I was pregnant solely based on the review one customer left about his wife giving birth on their bed with this mattress protector on.

I can’t give much personal testimony as I’ve been lucky enough to only have had my toddler puke in my bed once, and it wasn’t that much puke. But it stood up to that at least.

I’m brand new to the Type 1 game so I still have the sweats, but I ended getting a waterproof mattress cover (the kind used for bed wetting), and it sure as heck saved the bed from the stank: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PWNH4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_WB1XVPB3ZNQMFS97XJKD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I don’t know about blankets, but I’m sure a mattress protector would be a good idea.
I got this one to protect my foam mattress. It doesn’t feel or sound plastic-y, and there’s a review saying their wife gave birth on their bed and the mattress was spotless!

a good mattress protector then a towel to soak up any initial liquid then let it dry, nbut we tend to have sex in the morning which allows it to dry before sleeping at night.

Are you in the US? We use this one, from Amazon , we now have three so we have backups. We throw a towel on top when we are done then let it air dry. Over the thanksgiving break we soaked & let dry 4 times with no issue or smell.

This isn’t exactly what you asked, but I struggled with it too. The issue I had is that my mattress was maybe 12″ thick before and these encasements are more like 16″ thick, which is meant for the thicker mattresses.

The issue it created is that the dust mite cover would slide around, bunch up, etc. and that made it hot and uncomfortable. I hated it. But I didn’t know what to do and couldn’t find products with a snugger fit.

I also realized my mattress was a little old. I went to Amazon and bought a new one (Zinus green tea mattress) that was actually 16 inches thick and allowed the cover to be a better fit. This resolved the fit issue and made it nicer to sleep on.

Because the cover causes sheets to still slide around (it isn’t as grippy as the mattress itself), I use those little corner clip things that help keep the cover in place.

It can run a little warm, but isn’t as bad as before. I’ve learned to leave the temperature in my home down a little and use a fan as needed.

Hope that helps a little bit. This is the cover I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWNH4Q/

We purchased one of these and it was actually quite more annoying then just washing sheets. However we went with a few of these. They are cheaper, and easier to wash and dry. we just put them over top of our regular sheets when we plan to use them.

According to my Amazon history, I went with this one.

I can’t guarantee that it’s the coolest one you’ll find, but it’s super cheap and it was a lot cooler than my last one.

I prefer 3″ but 2″ topper should be fine… with Amazon Prime, you can return it if it doesn’t provide enough pressure point relief and get the 3″.

Latex is semi-breathable.

This cover is cotton based and breathable. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWNH4Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

To me, Latex has a mild smell. I don’t notice it when I sleep but YMMV.

I got mine from Amazon, but being from Canada, there is different selections on the US Amazon site. You should read through all of the ones that may be helpful and check the reviews, but this one seems okay https://www.amazon.com/SafeRest-Hypoallergenic-Waterproof-Mattress-Protector/dp/B003PWNH4Q/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=waterproof+mattress+cover&qid=1576378938&sr=8-4

A cheaper option is these matress protectors. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWNH4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the same problem and I got a couple of them and they work great. But you do end up cuddling in a cold puddle afterwards, which is a bit gross :p

yes its real, as you found out there is no urine smell (for most people) , though there may be some small urine traces as it comes through the bladder. Congratulations about being so cool about this. If you plan to hook up with her again or think you can do this with others, I suggest a) a waterproof mattress protector https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWNH4Q
and pads which you can use for making clean up easy

So I bought this waterproof mattress protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PWNH4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_sm_apa_glt_fabc_25FDRDP8BZQ24S96XAGE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 from Amazon and if you have Ross or something like a Ross stores they have it for cheaper. But when my bun does a digging or scratch on the bed that is when he is either gonna mark so I would cup my hand under his butt 🤣 and he would stop or I would pick him up and take him to his potty pan. Like cup my hand under his butt then carry him to the potty pan. I also leave a night light in the bathroom on so during the night he can got there by himself. I put hay in his potty pan and under the potty pan I have Goodnites Disposable Bed Mats for Bedwetting, 2.4 x 2.8 ft, 36 Ct (4 Packs of 9) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9R6W0S/ref=cm_sw_r_sm_apa_glt_fabc_XYD7E2V71HK54M0AKEX3 over my bathroom rug.
But sometimes before I got to my bed I go and use the bathroom and pee and he will follow me in the bathroom and he too will pee and poo 🤣 then he fellows me into the bed. So there is different ways to train him. Rabbit love routines so if you have a bathroom in your room set up something for your bun too cause my bun follows me kinda everywhere when I am home. Hope this help.

Currently using something similar for protection: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PWNH4Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

And then a merino wool blanket over that for extra softness and a more breathable layer between the fitted sheet and the protector: https://shepherdsdream.com/shop/wool-blanket/

Thinking about trying one of these wool protectors: https://www.dormeir.com/mattress

I don’t see why this sub can’t be that place. It’s not a sub for hosting professional porno, these are all real people doing the thing (and a shit ton of lurkers).

That said, to answer your questions:

a. Get some kind of waterproof barrier. It can be as sexy as this fitted, rugged, waterproof sheet, or as utilitarian as this regular mattress protector. Then get a cheap microfiber blanket or flannel sheet for absorbency. Or get the fancy Liberator Throw. More expensive, but a better all-in-one product.

b. All the positions. Go for distance. Upside down and backwards. Sixty-nining. Really whatever strikes your fancy… but from what I hear: use an enema before you literally pee up someone’s butt.

As for places other than the bedroom… camping? idk, just don’t fuck up an AirBnB

In the meantime, get an waterproof mattress encasement so you can wash up the smell and the urine doesn’t soak in the mattress.

You may have already done all of this, but as someone with allergies and breathing issues (and kids with the same), in addition to a good quality HEPA air purifier, be sure to get a good quality matress cover like this one and good quality pillow case covers like these.

Use a laundry detergent like All free and clear and use similar dryer sheets.

Minimize strong fragrances in the house (don’t use those plugin things, don’t wear a lot or any perfume/cologne, etc)

Also, consider switching cleaning products to something like Myers, Simple Green, Green Works, or something else that is generally non-toxic and not quite a harsh. They often take a bit of extra elbow grease to use, but switching from “traditional” cleaners like pine sol, 409, CLR, Tilex, etc to “green” cleaners has done a world of good. It is surprising how much that stuff hangs around on surfaces.

Sorry if this is out of place since it isn’t directly related to air duct cleaning, just thought as a fellow parent and allergy/breathing sufferer I’d share a few things I’d learned.
