If you are using Thunderbolt 3 and want speeds as fast as your internal then I recommend the 2TB Sabrent Rocket. I use the same drive on my M1 MBP and love the speeds and the small footprint. Yes it’s a little pricy but a normal 2TB Portable SSD that’s just USB-C will almost run you the same, it’s worth paying the extra for Thunderbolt 3 speeds.

But it’s launching on 26th.

Does the motherboard accept it as TB3? Meaning: can you use the drive at speeds above USB 3? I want to buy an external drive (link) but not if read/write stays below 1GB/s. Most positive reviews mention they’re using a Mac to get it to work fast.

I ordered 2TB knowing that internal storage is never enough. I had 2TB in my mid 2012 and getting less would have felt like a step back. I also have to do with 4k video and so i hope at least one project is fitting internaly. I saw this drive being recommended by maxtech: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08BZ2FXTF?tag=maxyur00-21&keywords=xtrm%20q%20sabrent%20ssd&geniuslink=true
Dont buy at amazon if you dont have to, but this drive is really fast.
And for the future: only time will tell whether we should have gotten 64GB instead..
