I have oily skin and this product is amazing. It turns out just using face wash will cause your face to oil up faster since you’re stripping it of all its oils.

I use this wash before I get in the shower, then CeraVe in the shower, then use face lotion when I get out.

I use a cleansing oil from Amazon that was recommended on r/skincareaddiction

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OQHZ2M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_11ljBbEDTJ4HJ

I used to use coconut oil as well but I felt like it never 100% washed off. I like to use an oil because my skin become dry if I use something that lathers too frequently. This oil removes ALL my makeup and emulsifies when you add water to it so it really rinses clean.

if you have dry skin i’d really recommend albolene moisturizing cleanser because it’s extremely mositurizing, gentle and fragrance free

if you have oily skin i think that the hadalabo Gokujun cleansing oil is a great one. it is a but harder to find however so ill link it here for you. it is also fragrance free and quite gentle on the skin.

i hope this helps 🙂

I got this and I’m really loving it so far! It doesn’t break me out at all and I sometimes even use it as my morning cleanser when I’m feeling super dry. I still double cleanse when I don’t wear makeup just to make sure I am getting all of my spf off.

I’ve been using Rohto Hada Labo Cleansing Oil for myself. It’s 200mL for $15, and does the job with no frills. I remove multiple layers of sunscreen at the end of the day and have never felt dry after rinsing.

They do! It’s definitely been a game changer for me and it’s pretty cheap! TO azelaic acid has really really helped my skin too (at first when using it I found it a bit itchy) but that quickly went away. It’s quite siliconey which I know some people don’t like, but I really like it and it mattifies my skin and decreases redness so much. It also makes a great make up base/ primer because of the silicone! I know Paulas choice do an azelaic acid which doesn’t have silicone though! Good luck at your derm! Hope some of those things work for you! I feel your pain with breakouts and sensitive skin! <3

here is a link to Hada Labo oil cleanser!

Hadalabo Gokujun Cleansing Oil I have incredibly sensitive skin, dehydrated and super acne prone, and this stuff is amazing. Emulsifies with water so no need to double cleanse if you don’t want to. Cuts through any and all makeup.

I use Hada Labo Cleansing Oil. It’s a Japanese brand that I learned about from r/AsianBeauty, and Dr Dray on YouTube talks about this specific product, too. It’s olive oil based, gentle on my eyes, and gets rid of the most waterproof mascara without me having to rip out my eyelashes. Gently massaging it all over my face removes the rest of my makeup and gets rid of blackheads, too. Adding this step before washing my face was a game changer in regards to makeup removal for me. I really love this stuff.

I have rosacea and have sensitive combination skin (more normal now that I’ve had a good routine for a year). In my opinion, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is too thick especially if you are not going to be double cleansing. I think double cleansing really helped my skin. I use Hada Labo Cleaning Oil It is similar to DHC but thinner, I prefer it tbh. I also use Cerave Facial Foaming wash as my 2nd cleanser. If you do not want to have too many things around. My sister uses make up wipes/ micellar wipes then the cerave face wash. She has very sensitive combination skin and eczema .

It depends on what your skin is sensitive to.

I enjoyed the Hada Labo Gokujun cleansing oil when anything else would make my skin burn.

I’m sensitive to mineral oil, too- the Hada Labo Gokujyun Cleansing Oil is almost exactly the same price (+/- $1 USD on Amazon) and it’s an HG for me. It’s olive and jojoba oil-based. 🙂 I see you’re in the UK, so here’s the relevant UK Amazon link.

Bought the Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Rich Oil and recently started used it for double cleansing (followed it with my usual face wash, TonyMoly Goat Milk Cream Foam Cleanser if it matters). Not sure if I was doing it right, but I got a break out after two days!

I do randomly get break outs every now and then so I wasn’t sure if it was due to the product. I kept using it and after what’s now been about a week, the initial breakout died down and nothing has happened since.

[I realize that I bought the “rich” version instead of the “light” version, which I think I should have bought, since my skin leans towards oily.]

My Questions:

 1. Should I try a new oil cleanser, or do you think that since the acne has died down it might have been coincidental?

 2. How do I know if a product breaks me out?

I’m considering either the light version, or the Hadalabo Gokujun Cleansing Oil if I do buy a new one.

If you think it would be helpful for me to post my entire routine I wouldn’t mind!

I put together a mini version of my daily skin routine because I am in my early twenties and spend a lot of nights not at home.

Left to Right

1st: [Hada Labo Gokujun Cleansing Oil](r/https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OQHZ2M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1): a few pumps of my favorite oil cleanser in this [miniature airless pump](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C5ZN2WY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Works to get off my night makeup and pull the gunk out of my easily clogged pores.

2nd: [Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser]( r/https://smile.amazon.com/Cetaphil-Gentle-Skin-Cleanser-Ounce/dp/B00OK1NEX0/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1535926471&sr=1-1&keywords=cetaphil+face+wash+travel+size) in a travel size container. My preferred second cleanser that doesn’t get me as dried out as a Cetaphil Foaming cleanser does.

3rd:[Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen]( https://smile.amazon.com/Sarasara-Essence-Sunscreen-Package-Cosmetic/dp/B071X4W74G/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1535926564&sr=1-1&keywords=biore%2Bsunscreen&th=1) The biggest item in my travel case, but half used up so it’s easily folded in half. For application the morning after.

4th: [Pixi Glow Tonic](https://smile.amazon.com/Tonic-Ginseng-100ml-Travel-Toner/dp/B0199EBC0Y/ref=sr_1_cc_1_a_it?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1535926715&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=pixi+glow+tonic+travel). I use this as a substitute for my preferred nip and fab glycolic fix extreme- works just as well in a pinch but doesn’t have the added salicylic acid/isn’t a convenient pad.

5th: Curology in another airless container. I only wanted to spare a few pumps of product for travel as it’s the most expensive item in my routine.

6th: [Bliss Drench n Quench]( https://smile.amazon.com/Moisture-Hydrator-Hypoallergenic-Dermatologist-Non-Comedogenic/dp/B016IXPWO6/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1535927003&sr=1-1&keywords=bliss+cream+to+water) sample size. A sub in for my Neutrogena hydro boost gel- works well enough, but not enough to persuade me to switch.

I also use Hada Labo, it’s this one

https://www.amazon.com/ROHTO-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Cleansing-200ml/dp/B004OQHZ2M

Now that it’s summer and I’m oily again. I’ve been using the Neutrogena PHA skin balancing gel cleanser and it’s really helped as well.

For double cleansing I highly recommend the Hadalabo Cleansing oil. No scent , cuts through makeup and sunscreen, and it rinses off with water

https://www.amazon.com/ROHTO-Hadalabo-Gokujun-Cleansing-200ml/dp/B004OQHZ2M

I go drugstore with my cleansers. In the spring/summer when my face is oily I use the Neutrogena gel PHA skin balancing cleanser. You might need the green clay formulation

https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Balancing-Polyhydroxy-Paraben-Free-Sulfate-Free/dp/B088S2JJ41/

I also use a 15% glycolic acid cream under my moisturizer. I literally use a dab of it because it goes a long way and it’s really strong. But it keeps my oil under control all day long. I got it from Marshalls, but found it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/GLYCOLIC-FORMULATIONS-THERAPY-Glycolic-Solution/dp/B0744W9B69

I’ve spent the past 2 hours reading over all the information on this sub, I thought I had a good idea about skincare but I really didn’t have the first idea how extensive this was 😅 I think I’ve put together a decent routine so far, for somewhat dry skin. I don’t get much acne, but I always notice my arms and hands are flakey and white-ish. I’m big on chemicals, always try to go for what’s safe. Fragrance/paraben free has always been music to my ears. I read up that some of Cerave products has chemicals of the dirty dozen, so matched and compared and found what I thinks the best. What do you guys think so far? Still gonna tweak some things before going about getting these items.

Sorry for the late reply. The oil cleanser is easier to find I think. I just type in Hada Labo oil cleanser. I’m not sure where in the world you live. But I buy the oil cleanser here and the moisturiser is the gold tub in the picture, it’s called “Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Perfect gel” so if you type that in and it’s a completely gold tub, you’ve got the right one. The link to where I buy it is here . This one takes a while to arrive from me. Sometimes there are online shops that sell it, it’s a bit more expensive but arrives quicker. I hope that helps! And I hope you like them, they’ve saved my skin!!!!

I have a few depending on what you’re washing off. For just washing a bare face I like CerVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser or LaRoche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser .

For makeup removal, I prefer an oil cleanser like Hadalabo Gokojun Oil Cleanser followed by Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Facial Cleanser or the LaRoche Posay cleanser.

I have dry skin that is prone to eczema. Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing your input. I too think my moisture barrier around my eyes are compromised. I did get a few new toners that does not sting me and is currently patch testing them slowly to watch for reaction or stinging.

For the Hada Labo oil, are you talking about this one?

As for the Etude Soonjung barrier cream, is it this? What about the Etude Sleeping Pack?

I have a tube of Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre. Do you think that is moisturizing enough? If I know it is going to help, I can endure the sting. If that is not good enough, is the Aveeno bath therapy pack usable for face? Is it these?

Thanks for such a long and detailed response! I have a few questions, if you don’t mind.

I wasn’t familiar with sebaceous filaments until you posted this comment. I think you are right, they are not blackheads, but they are sebaceous filaments. Thanks for noticing this. What do you make of the Hada Labo oil cleanser and Hada Labo foaming wash combo? (i.e. this oil cleanser + this regular cleanser).

I will investigate those things relating to vitamin/mineral deficiencies, cleaning products and hard water, thanks for the suggestions. Off the top of your head, would you happen to know of some scientific literature that has studied these things? I have found some myself, I’m just interested in what you’ve read specifically.

Are these colloidal oatmeal and honey masks pre-made by some cosmetics manufacturer, or do you mix this yourself with ingredients from a shop?

I’m looking into the Hadalabo cleansing oil and have found 2 on Amazon, so I’m wondering if they’re the same with different packaging or if one is a different formula or..?? This one is the original link that I followed off 50 Shades of Snail’s blog and it links to this, which it says is a newer version of the item. I would just go ahead and buy the first linked item, as it seems reputable with many many reviews, but it’s gone up in price to $25 and the second one is $16. Really hoping someone can help bc Google wasn’t very helpful when I searched for things like “hadalabo cleansing oil new packaging” “new formula” etc lol.. Thanks in advance for any help! 🙂

Thanks for the response! I’ve looked through most of the threads and they were extremely useful! Here is what I’ve decided on as my first haul:

The Beginner Guide mentioned patch testing for 2 weeks to 1 month. Would I be able to patch test all 4 products at once if I’m using different areas of my skin (behind the ear and inside the elbow on both left and right sides)? Also, this sounds kind of dumb but are you supposed to patch test a sheet maks?

I am also super new to AB, and the best advice I got was to go slow. Of course I did not and broke right out. If I could go back in time I would definitely stick with my first three product choices of cleansing oil, proper pH face wash and a sunscreen: Hada Labo Gokujyn cleansing oil and Hada Labo Gokujun foaming face cleanser. The sunscreens I got were Biore Watery Essence and Shiseido Senka Aging Care, both well-reviewed but containing alcohol which your skin might like better than mine did. I also tried a few western sunscreens and am still on that quest. However, to keep the fun going, I would probably order some sheet masks and the Etude House or Tony Moly foot peels, too. Those would probably work well for spa day with your mom. Also, samples and sample sets (I’ve got my eye on ones from sulwhasoo and tosowoong) abound on ebay, Amazon, testerkorea and various other sites I’m sure you can find by poking around here. fwiw, my mom who is in her 60s, looooooves Japanese skincare company DHC. Also maybe look at the Holy Grail and Routine Mega threads in the sidebar to find a skin twin to inspire you. GL, HF!

yes there is a cleansing oil — amazon product page – I believe its primary oil is olive oil…
