The Royal Kludge RK87 might give you what you’re looking for. It uses 2.4ghz wireless rather than Bluetooth, so you have to physically plug the dongle into the computer you want to use it on (can’t quickly swap between them) but it does seem to offer more customisation options/different profiles. (But I don’t know whether you can do this by keyboard shortcut – you might have to see if you can find a copy of the manual online somewhere)

A friend just gifted me an rk sink87g brand new out of the box, but after working fine for a few hours seems to have run out of battery and even though I’ve charged it overnight it refuses to turn on ever since. Unfortunately I don’t have the instruction manual or warranty info, but I’m wondering if I could do a factory reset? I am trying to use it in wired mode (not bluetooth) but I can’t get any keyboard input or backlight on either of the computers I’ve tried it on. I don’t see the manual on the subreddit wiki.

Might be this board board with either both white and black keycaps from the same board or it’s the white board with some black keycaps

I just got my RK87 from a post I made a few days ago and I am impressed for $40. Feels really nice and I totally didn’t need it because I have 6 or 7 other keebs (all budget focused)

My current face is the RK100 RGB, it’s the same footprint as a TKL, but all the keys are compressed together so you still have dedicated arrows and a full numpad, literally the best $80 I’ve ever spent on a keyboard. The RK100 also has hotswap sockets so you can try all different kinds of switches which is super nice and easy to customize to make it your own.

Both of these are wired or wireless with a USB dongle.

This leaves about $50 for a keyboard, which I think is reasonable. You can go with either a productivity focused one or a mechanical one.

I recommend the RK87 if you’re okay with a TKL layout. Mechanical and good build quality compared to regular “gaming” keyboards.

Hi! I was looking for a cheap TKL brown keyboard with a removable USB cable in Canada. I found the Royal Kludge Sink 87G and the Keychron K8. The Keychron is a bit more expensive ($116 including shipping, vs the Sink 87G for $93), but looks better and has a Gateron Brown switch rather than Outemu Brown of the Sink 87G. I’ve heard the Gateron Browns are better than Outemus, and but is the difference significant enough to be worth the price difference?

I’m also open to other board suggestions as long as they are reliable and cheap, and meet the criteria I mentioned above. Thanks!

Man, that’s just insanity. What a bummer, to have onboard memory, and not be able to use it. I found a wireless TLK per key RGB keyboard with 3 onboard memory profile slots for $60 RK Royal Kludge RK87 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GSWT56W Can save, backup, and share profiles. Video on Using the Desktop Software – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKVkNLI9Dns While the RK87 can definitely store macros to the onboard memory, I haven’t been able to confirm that lighting profiles can be sent over. Also, it lacks bluetooth connectivity (which means much lower battery life when using 2.4Ghz).

I’m not sure if any hard wired keyboards have memory slots — as usually they aren’t necessary for USB keyboards. Although, perhaps you just don’t want iCue running for some reason?
It’s tough to find them but they do exist on wireless keyboards. The Logitech G915 has onboard profiles, but it seems to be a disaster and I’m not sure if it’s working as of yet (https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/fups4o/g915\_onboard\_memory\_mode\_is\_a\_bust/). I have a Drevo Blademaster Pro and even though the desktop software is quirky, the keyboard is fantastic (per key RGB, 3 bluetooth, genius knob, 3 onboard profiles, and much much more). I’m looking for a backup for two reasons 1) When it dies 2) Something with better battery life. I’d probably just purchase another Blademaster Pro — but they don’t make them any longer (can only get the Blademaster TE which is wired and probably doesn’t have memory slots — but you may want to check).
Please keep us posted on whether you find something and what you end up purchasing.
[EDIT: Drevo Blademaster TE does seem to have 3 Memory Slots $48 on sale right now with the browns you’re looking for: https://www.amazon.com/DREVO-BladeMaster-Mechanical-Keyboard-Programmable/dp/B07H7H7VCY?th=1 ]

I just started exploring mechanical keyboards myself. A Royal Kludge 87 key was on sale for like $40 and I impulse bought it. It is using their own clone of the Cherry Brown.

It turns out that I freaking love it. I feel like a dummy for using a poor keyboard for so long!

Browns are kind of in between a clicky blue and a smooth linear red. They are not silent by any means but I find the noise to be tolerable; certainly nothing like a clicky blue. I find the brown good for typing and gaming.

I decided to get a switch tester so I could try out some of the other options. If you’re really unsure what you want this can help a lot, but it is expensive for what you get. There are also a million switches, you’ll never be able to test them all if you have any kind of budget!

I found that I do not like how reds and silent reds feel, but silent reds are VERY quiet if that is important. I do like how blues feel but the clicking would make me crazy. Turns out the brown switches I got by chance are a good compromise, and a good fit for me. (On the other hand my wife is now dying for a keyboard with blues.)

But, like others said, I think optical browns are going to be somewhat different.

I can’t speak to the ease of switching from M&K to controller, as I’m trying to do the exact opposite right now, but that hasn’t been too bad. However, I’m going from less option to more whereas you would be doing the inverse.

That being said, your character do carry over. Also make sure you get the complete edition. It comes with the base game and all of the expansions for the price of a normal game. $60.

Also, console version has M&K support as long as the peripherals in question are compatible with the PS5. I can personally recommend the Royal Kludge RK87 Keyboard and the UtechSmart Venus Pro MMO Mouse. It’s what I’ve been using on console and they’ve been working a real treat for me.

But if you’re committed to making the switch to controller, I’m almost positive there are YouTube videos about making the transition easier.

These fit your budget at normal price, and are also on sale till Monday.

They’re pretty much the same board too.
