https://www.amazon.com/RK-ROYAL-KLUDGE-Mechanical-Connectable/dp/B08JCV2NG3?th=1&psc=1 this is the rk100 that I used. Key caps came included with the keyboard but the keyboard didn’t have rgb which I didn’t need but it ended up making the build a lot cheaper.

I’ve recently discovered the 96% form factor and have narrowed down a few choices. Am looking for opinions. Asking here first, let me know if it would be better to create a dedicated post. I’m still very new to the hobby, so please forgive any ignorance.

I like the idea of the 96% form factor because it saves almost as much desk space as a TKL, but doesn’t compromise the num pad. My switch experience is fairly limited, but I know that I don’t like linear. My preference is tactile, and I feel like a heavier actuation is more comfortable for me, but I also don’t mind the noise of clicky switches. RGB is not important, but I do want a backlight of some kind.

The keyboards I’ve found so far:

Royal Kludge RK100 – Seems to hit all the marks. Any opinions?

Drop Shift – Looks awesome, but it’s just so much more expensive. Is it really worth it?

Keychron K4 – Much like the RK100, seems to hit all the marks.

Darmoshark K1 – Unlike the other options, this one is only available with Red or Blue switches. I’m fine with Blues, but would need to hear some very positive things over the Keychron and RK options that are very similar but come with Browns.

Looking forward to hearing this community’s advice. One thing I’ve noticed is that, besides the Drop Shift, all options listed come with Gateron switches. I assume that indicates a lower quality switch since they’re all much less expensive. Is that accurate? Again, let me know if I’d be better off making a standalone post for this.

I ordered another keyboard. This one may interest you:

96% layout. Has INS, DEL, Page Up, Page Down, Home, End and Print Screen keys. Backlight is controlled by fn+ combinations.

It uses some kind of generic switches in red, blue or brown.

Mine arrives tomorrow.
