Was wondering if someone has experienced swapping the switches on an RK 987 before.

I’ve got a ton of box jades I want to make use of but I’m worried the LEDs on the board are too big. Here’s a link yo the board I’m looking at, it’s the non-optical switch version https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07VZ4RN4R/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_dl_DHGDBH2VVDTGK3MJRXF8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I’ve been looking on youtube to see if I can catch a glimpse of the LEDs on a mod video but no dicd

At $50, you’ll be stuck in the pre-built models. It’s not necessarily bad, but a lot (most) enthusiast on r/mk will say custom is the way to go. I think pre-built is a great place to start though!

I’ve heard good things about Royal Kludge RK68, so you might look into their RK87 models to fit your requirements. Amazon US shows ~$50 for a basic board

> Looking for a keyboard thats not too loud

Loudness is determined by many factors: switches, case and plate material, deskmat (or lack thereof), etc. Read up around here for each of those. Generally speaking in terms of volume, clicky switches are loud, tactile and linear are less loud. Mechanical keyboards are inherently loud given that they are…mechanical.

> has dedicated media and volume buttons on the keyboard, function keys at the top and doesn’t have a numpad though this is optional.

As others have said, you’ve described a ten-keyless (TKL) where the numpad is left off.

> Also preferably have a relatively low ish elevation

You may benefit from a wrist rest for this. Although, best practice is to hover your hands while typing to reduce strain.

You might also try r/mechmarket as other folks in [EU] post often. This can help with shipping costs. I got my first MK from there. It’s a pre-built and I still use it!

Keep researching to see what appeals to you. There’s a lot of great content on YT, blogs, and even here. Best of luck!

You can always pick up one of these guys for $50 and a choice of (off-brand, but decent) switches:

Royal Kludge RK987 is another option.

Also, you wouldn’t want to use Bluetooth keyboards for gaming anyways. The latency is awful.

I just picked this up with $19 discount using a coupon on amazon. For for less than $50 this feels like a great value honestly.
