So I started using ketocanazole shampoo about 4 months before fin. In my experience I dont think it did anything to stop my hairloss, ,but I will say that it makes my hairs health a bit and most importantly for my hairloss it made it look much alive, fuller and thicker. I am still taking ketocanazole shampoo because it makes it lookk fuller and thicker. Here is the link if you are interested in buying the one I use I recommend it.

You can try Everything I described just know that Finasteride is the main key factor.

I personally use shampoo everyday because I work out a lot and my scalp is very greasy it all depends on your scalp. I dont think washing your scalp everyday creates problem man especially if you work out or anything make sure you shampoo 3 times a week at least.

I would recommend if you are going to try finasteride to try it now because know that mpb is a time thing the sooner you start the better.

This is the shampoo i use which i love . Is a ketocanazole shampoo which helps to makenyour hair look thicker and it feels nice.

I understand where you are coming from you are young, but it also doesnt look bad at all you have slight recession, but yes if you want to keep your hair you have to take action and go see your doctor.

I would suggest for you to start with ketoconozole shampoo. This is the one I use but is really good for your hair. Wash your scalp throughly and leave for 10-15 mins. This is the minimal you can do and it has no sides.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_12dhnbsCsZf4V I’ve had pretty moderate dandruff since before I even knew I had hair issues, but I tried this consistently awhile back(January or so?) and it did a good job of getting rid of it. Its back now cus I ran out and $25 is a lot for shampoo lol. I don’t know the science behind this, though—I’m 19 and dumb and if it says it’s good I’ll put it on my head.

Trick for me was to make sure it got on my scalp and then leave it there for a hot minute or so

LET THE SHAMPOO SIT ON FOR 5+ MINUTES OTHERWISE YOU WON’T GET RESULTS

I saw results with nizoral, but it dries my hair. So far my favorite has been regenepure dr which is pricey but worth it. It’s very nourishing to my hair and has 2% ketoconazole. I follow up with trader joe’s tea tree tingle conditioner or Shea Moisture’s grow strong conditioner. Sometimes I will do “pre-poo” where I put on coconut oil all over and let it soak for 30 minutes – overnight. Then I’ll do one pass with conditioner, wash it out, then shampoo and let it sit for 5+ minutes, as long as possible, then conditioner again.

I’ll give the coconut oil a shot for at least a month or so. I mean my hair on top isn’t super long, I feel like the scalp won’t be super visible once it grows a bit longer. And I tried to find Minoxidil on Amazon.ca, and the closest thing is a shampoo with really good reviews, in regards to such a problem:

beta sitosterol, biotin, and MSM. MSM makes my hair and nails grow like crazy, but not sure if it helps with hair loss or growing new hair. I just have to cut my hair and nails way more often. The keto shampoo seems to help, too, I use this one.

This is my shampoo BTW: http://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Doctor-Recommended-Shampoo-Treatment/dp/B0032FSDOA
Nizoral will work too (the ketoconazole is what you’re after), but this stuff is sulfate-free and doesn’t have a terrible chemical smell. DHT blockers won’t make as much of a difference once T gets knocked clear down to female normal, but I’ll stick with this stuff anyway cause it’s also great for dandruff. It’s a little pricey, but my current bottle has lasted 3 months and is still about 1/4 full (shampooing every other day right now, with more growth I’ll use more but eventually just twice a week – not really effective for hair growth at that point but enough to get the anti-dandruff effect).

Let’s just say I made this username for a reason.

I believe my hair loss was related to Creatine, though I cannot confirm this. I cannot recall all the noots I was taking at the time, though the only other one I remember being on that you mentioned was maybe ALCAR. After several weeks of daily Creatine use, I noticed abnormal amounts of hair in my fingers after running my hand through it. Like, a lot a lot.

I stopped taking Creatine, and started using Regenepure DR ( http://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Doctor-Recommended-Shampoo-Treatment/dp/B0032FSDOA ). This product contains ketoconazole which is clinically proven to reverse hair loss. You can do your own research on it.

I can report after several months of daily use I no longer lose hair when I run my fingers through it. I did get some dry hair from DR so I added Regenepure’s nourishing treatment and their moisturizer and I’m finally happy with my hair again (both of these are on amazon as well, though buying all 3 is not cheap, I cannot recommend them enough). The last 2 products mentioned do not actually help with hair loss or regrowing hair, however they do help with making hair appear thicker and more “alive”. I cannot confirm hair regrowth yet, even with DR, but I 100% stopped losing as much as I had been. I can run my fingers through my hair and most of the time, no hairs fall out.

When/if you use these products, I would use the DR first, rinse, then NT, rinse, then moisturizer, rinse, and make sure to leave each on your scalp for several minutes before rinsing. It added a lot of time to my shower routine but it is well worth it. I do this every day possible.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

Disclaimer: I’m no doctor. YMMV. I, personally, decided to try this before anything more harsh (ie rogaine/fin) and so far, no regrets, but everyone is different. I’m male and young 20s with a possible genetic predisposition for hair loss, for reference.

You could try a sulfate free ketoconazole shampoo. It should be significantly less drying than nizoral. Regenpure offers one sold on amazon that I use:

I’m in the same boat as you, 18 and I just noticed some thinning on my right side, most of my relatives and close family have extreme MPB and I am paranoid, but it also gives me an edge up on them because none of them knew anything about hair loss regime, so I’m starting now to hopefully keep my hair a little longer. I am going to start out slow with a Ketoconazole shampoo, specially this one:
REGENEPURE, DR Shampoo Hair and Scalp Treatment, Cleanses and Supports Hair Growth, 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0032FSDOA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2PRBSXHSHYRHAD54VD43?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

So I am going to start off slow and as time progresses and I notice more hair loss, I plan to take it to the next step with the other 2 out of the “big three”. But I think for the most part we will be fine, we are so young to be getting on top of this. Way ahead of the game brother

Yes it’s definitely seborrheic dermatitis. Avoid scratching your head too much.

Here you can find a good article on the research published around rosemary oil. Maybe it helped me with the growth maybe not, my situation is not bad enough to assess whether it is really effective with naked eye. However if researchers found that it works, I would not be too skeptical about it. You can definitely do a mixture of oils and try to capitalize on the compound effects. I added rosemary oil to my ketoconazole shampoos and also to other shampoos when I don’t want to use a keto one.

This shampoo is probably the best one for hair loss, there is basically everything non farmacological that is good for growth and also include ketoconazole. If you really want to avoid minoxidil you may even try to add a laser helmet therapy, which has shown again to stimulate growth.

Don’t expect enormous results with these things, but it could work well for you.

Nizoral is not a replacement for Fin. Its mechanism of action is completely different. Fin inhibits test being reduced into DHT via 5 alpha reductase. So its a 5AR inhibitor and lowers serum DHT, which in turn lowers scalp DHT. Fin has a serum half life of like a couple days but remains present in the scalp for a month of more. Its is the most effective intervention (besides Dutasteride) for stopping the progression of hair loss because it is lowering the most androgenic hormone in the body most responsible for hair loss.

Nizoral, only if you leave it on the scalp for 6 or more minutes, might kill off some scalp androgens, including DHT, washing it away when you wash the shampoo off. Keyword is might. It started being used for hair loss off label when a study showed that men on Finasteride had slightly better results if they also used a 2% Ketoconazole shampoo (the active ingredient in Nizarol). Its effectiveness does not even compare to Fin (which is the gold standard for hair loss) possibly accounting for very marginal results. And for the majority of men, it likely has very little impact on hair loss if used alone. Compare that to fin which on its own will almost always produce very good results, preventing the progression of androgenic alopecia for decades for some people. A hair loss doctor would never recommend a Ketoconazole shampoo on its own. In fact many hair loss experts do not even recommend it as part of a hair loss protocol at all.

Shampoo has very little impact on hair loss or hair growth. Conditioner, on the other hand, can really give the illusion of hair growth because it coats the hair follicle and makes it look much, much thicker. This is very important when using something like Nizarol because Nizarol is a cheap shampoo which does nothing for the healthy look of the hair follical. It just strips everything off the hair and makes your hair look like shit frankly. You want that illusion of thicker hair with a better shampoo to instantly see results.

Here is a much higher quality Ketoconazole shampoo (costs more too):

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0032FSDOA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is a conditioner with active ingredients (so you have to let it absorb for 6mins + just like the shampoo):

I think that’s a better (less harsh/drying) ketoconazole shampoo than Nizoral. I use it every other day as well as Minox twice a day and don’t have any issues. I also use the Regenepure Nourishing Treatment Shampoo (https://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Nourishing-Treatment-Thickening-Strengthening/dp/B0032FQSZG/) which helps hair from being dried out, and also has ingredients that are more gentle on hair/scalp than typical shampoos.

> I keep seeing rumblings about terrible sexual side effects of finasteride but have yet to see anything substantiated. So I’m just going to ignore that entirely and take the plunge. Is going to a dermatologist the best route to ask about a prescription?

2% experience sexual side effects of which all have gone away on their own while continuing use or after stopping usage in scientific studies. All the horror stories I’ve read have been anecdotal. I spent about 6 months debating whether or not to hop on fin, only regret has been not hopping on it earlier. Derm is the best route. Many Hair Transplant doctors give free consultations and will write you prescriptions as well. Ask for generics, much cheaper.

> I read somewhere that Rogaine is only for vertex thinning- is this true? Since I don’t have that issue, should I bother?

I think this is because the main study done focused on the crown. There has been evidence it can help on the temples but not as strong as the crown.

>Can I continue to use regular shampoos in conjunction with it? Are there any shampoos I should avoid? I use a soy paste product to sculpt my hair, could that be an issue? Are there any other hair products / foods / anything I should generally avoid?

Yes, many people first wash with a normal shampoo then use Niz. You can also get prescription 2% niz from derm/ht doctor which you use every other day. Keto shampoo can be somewhat harsh on your scalp/hair (dry), althought I’ve had no problems. [http://www.amazon.com/Regenepure-Shampoo-Treatment-Supports-Growth/dp/B0032FSDOA?tag=dailydeal0c6-20](Regenepure) is slightly more expensive but has many more ingredients to help counteract irritation and dryness.

No products you’re putting in your hair are going to speed up your MPB. Shampoos containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) can be more drying than others, which can in theory make the hairs weaker which may make them fall out faster, but won’t effect whether or not they regrow back as MPB does.

In terms of food – supplements such as creatine or steroids can increase DHT production and increase MPB. I’ve also read sorghum (a grain) increases 5-alpha-reductase and DHT, its pretty uncommon in day-to-day foods unless you’re gluten free.

Some other thoughts: I’ve been using a volumizing mouse/shampoo and it definitely helps my hair look fuller/hide the thinning spots. You can also use something like TOPPIK to help conceal, but I’ve found that the brownish colors have an almost green tint to them in certain light and can be pretty annoying applying to the hairline. I think people who have black hair benefit most from hair fibers.

Keto binds to your scalp and hair, so you can get maximum use out of with just two times a week. You probably don’t want to use more than that because keto dries your hair so you can use a thickening shampoo the rest of the days.

You can use your shampoo as often as you want since it doesn’t have keto and therefore doesn’t dry you hair.

Also, you don’t have to use nizoral, there are plenty of others with keto, just look at the ingredients.

This is one of the best ketoconazole (anti-dandruff) shampoos. Compared to this head-and-shoulders did nothing for me.
