I took the same plunge about a year ago with this one from red dragon. I wanted a full keyboard for a decent introductory price as I wasn’t sure I’d like the switches. I have been very satisfied with it and recommend it for anyone wanting to try the initial dive.

I have this one, and I talk about how much I like it on pretty much every post that comes up here when It goes on sale. It’s largest draw back is how loud it is. But if you can get over that, it’s a great board that has served me well. The number pad less ones go on sale for the 40$ price point fairly often and its a good entry level board. But for the 100$ range you start getting to the Anne pro and ducky series of boards. u/lifelongcaboose can give you more detail about them. Try and stay awa from any corsair/razer/Asus etc brand boards as they are generally over priced and offer nonconventional keycaps and bottom rows, which makes changing keycaps basically nonexistent.

Eh… it doesn’t use Cherry switches but rather Kailh. Newer Kailh switches such as their BOX series are nice, but their older stuff like what I think is in here is sloppy. If you don’t care about how the switches feel and just want RGB then just get a $60 Amazon mech like this with Outemu switches which are generally regarded higher than Kailh.

Anybody have experience with a Redragon k551. Its the cheapest blue switch, rgb, full size keyboard i could find. What do you think? https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Mechanical-Redragon-illuminated-ABS-Metal/dp/B019O8YZ4A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1514185900&sr=8-4&keywords=k551

I’ve never seen one that cheap with macros, either macro out your F row/numpad or buy a separate macro pad

Any recommendations for decent gaming keyboard with RGB LED backlighting that isn’t too expensive (<$60)? I don’t need all the bells and whistles, but I would like to be able to change the color of the backlighting, and I would like to have the number pad. I was looking on Amazon since I have Prime, and this is one that seemed decent, but I’m not 100% sure.
Also, I was thinking of adding o-rings; will the color of the o-rings affect the LED quality? Was leaning towards transparent o-rings just in case.
Thanks!

I really like my RedDragon K551, especially considering the $50 price tag for a mechanical:
·
I bought this from amazon, I am very happy with it.
·
$675 at time of writing (though no keyboard or OS): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HZq7K4
If you want you can even upgrade the CPU to a 3600 for only $35 more, which is probably worth it, but not necessary.
Edit: Decent RGB Keyboard: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K551-RGB-Mechanical-Keyboard-Construction/dp/B019O8YZ4A/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=keyboard+gaming+mx+blue&qid=1597331093&sr=8-4

My build has a better GPU, faster memory, faster storage, a better airflow case, and a slightly better monitor
If you used $1500, you could get an RTX 2070 Super, some RGB, and probably some of other stuff
I’ve also linked a mechanical keyboard below cuz it’s the same price and is way better

You can get a lot of RGB mechs for around 50 bucks off Amazon (Any online retailer really). Just search “RGB mechanical keyboard” and set the price to 40-60 USD.
Hell, here’s a full size one:

Corsair, Razer and Logitech among others (These are typically the worst contenders) overcharge for their boards. They’re poor or subpar quality for the price.
Tell me the difference between this:
and this:
or this:
There is essentially little difference. They both have pretty much the same construction quality (Aluminum plate, probably), both RGB, although you can argue whatever you believe the “complete” customization is worth to you, pretty much all of them come stock with doubleshot ABS caps, and while you can argue whatever you want for the switches, are Cherry Switches, multimedia keys in the case of the Corsair, and macros on either really worth that much steeper price tag? Especially when you can put the money you saved on the Redragon on something like a separate numpad for dedicated macros that you can put anywhere and put away if you no longer needed it for space issues and maybe a wrist rest or god forbid, higher quality keycaps. Oh, and they don’t even have standard layouts, so you’re going to be dealing with more of a hassle to even buy new caps if you wanted them to being with.
Oh yeah, and I think the Corsair and Razer boards have passthrough ports. WORTH, amirite?
Mind you, I’m not shitting on all of there products. Just their boards. I’d need a while to put why I hate a wide majority of their products and only really like a select few.
Let it be known, I do enjoy the Blackwidow’s looks (the case) and I’ve done paint jobs on two of them for friends.

here’s what I’m looking at getting, I’m on a budget or I’d be going for something more high dollar

I just went ahead and bought this one its got good reviews, people here like it, and I need a full size keyboard. Some applications I use, make use of the num pad for various things, ie camera angles.
