The Rantopad MXX is a Chinese-made TKL board with an aluminum faceplate, bright LEDS, and Gateron switches, which are a delight to type on. They’re incredibly smooth and are pretty well liked among this community. I own one myself (Gateron reds) and I would definitely recommend it. It’s going on amazon for sub $50 which is an amazing price for a Gateron switch keyboard.

You can also order it with Blue Gateron switches instead of red if you want tactile switches instead of linear. It’s a great intro mechanical keyboard and because of its compact size and detachable USB cable I still use it today as my travel mechanical keyboard for when I’m at friends’ houses or work.

Rantopad MXX. You can get Reds for about $60 on Amazon. The RGB Chroma is available in Browns for a bit a more.

I’ve never tried the G213 – is it similar to cherry browns? I bought the Rantopad MXX with Gateron reds as my first mech kb and it hasn’t failed me yet. Was super loud at first but I dampened the keys using o-rings – those shits are magical!

Rantopad does very cheap boards. I would have recommended a Magicforce 68 but they don’t make the non-backlit version with reds.

It sounds like what you tried are reds. Just a straight push down, no extra resistance to the keys?

If you want light keys, you don’t want the RedDragon or anything with blue switches, and unfortunately most cheap keyboards only come with them. Those are heavier and make a deliberate clicking noise.

There’s a guide to switch types here that might be worth looking at.

The Rantopad MXX has an option for reds though, as does the Drevo Gramr.
