It’s been so long now I don’t remember for sure, but I think we used a mattress bag purchased from Uhaul, without a valve, just did careful duct-tape job to get it to fit tightly around the vacuum hose.

It’s a thing. Just one example available on Amazon. APM has a video of how to repack their mattress if have to return on YouTube using a shopvac. I’m sure the appropriate sized box can be found online, too.
It’s also one of the reasons I went DIY + a foundation that can be broken down, in the event I move overseas in the next year or two as it’s a possibility and I won’t have any gov’t footing the bill this time around. Not really keen to have to rebuy the same load of household goods every time I am residing on a different continent.

can’t help with a pallet cover, but i just bought this mattress compression bag for my hybrid foam/spring mattress last month and it worked beautifully. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BPJ3XXL put your stuff in, zip it up, put the vacuum hose onto the valve.
i only moved a couple blocks away, so it didn’t get beat up too much, but the plastic seems thick enough that it’ll resist punctures & can be used again.
