Thanks for the information. Do you think these Polk speakers would be appropriate?

I would consider spreading my speakers out but I can’t due to the door to the right of my tv. They are 5 apart and my sitting location is like 6 feet from it so it isn’t too aweful imo

I ended up getting these Polk OWM3s

Really like them with my setup and I use Elac’s as well.

Keep in mind these are monopole speakers and if you get them set their crossover at 100hz.

I know you said you wanted multi-directional rears but I have these polks below and they do a good job keeping up with my polk Tsx440t floor stand speakers.

Here it goes. So I’ve been put in charge of replacing the sound system for our rowing facility. We have $1000 (with some leeway) and the only condition is that the speakers have to be wall mountable. We need 7 speakers in total and we already have a receiver (a gift from an alumni who decided to go sonos). What would you recommend reddit/what do you think about the Polk OWM3?

TV choice is poor, that is an entry level panel with no local dimming. At $1400, the TCL 75R635 makes a lot of sense. If you can stretch to $1700, the Vizio P75Q9-H1 would be viable.

X3600H is a great receiver, but a generation old. You may want to spend another $250 for the X3700H if HDMI 2.1 is a concern. Primary use case being variable refresh rate gaming on the upcoming consoles or a high-end PC.

Good bass is not cheap. A pair of HSU VTF-2 MK5 is $1200 and that is what I suggest aiming for.

http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk5.html

There is zero reason to buy Bose for home theatre. They focus on appearance more than sounding good. All the other options you mention also suck, tiny satellite packages without good frequency response or ability to play loud.

Given your desire for small speakers that can be wall mounted, Klipsch RP-400M and 400C seem appropriate as they are also on sale.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714RP400ME/Klipsch-Reference-Premiere-RP-400M.html – 3 pairs for 7.x config.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714RP400CE/Klipsch-Reference-Premiere-RP-400C.html – Matching centre.

For Atmos you need speakers mounted up high, preferably on the ceiling? Doesn’t need to be in-ceiling, on the ceiling is fine. There is no such thing as Atmos enabled speakers except in the mind of salesmen. They are just normal speakers hooked up to your Atmos channels.

With that in mind, two pairs of Polk OWM3 are a practical solution for Atmos.

https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Wall-Speaker-Black/dp/B0018QNYVM

The end result of all that is a pretty nice 7.2.4 package. A final note, you will want rig up some mounting setup for the speakers and subwoofers to keep them stationary. I would not trust the normal wall mounting brackets to hold things in place during high seas.

Well it depends on inceiling and in wall placement

https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/5.1.2-overhead-speaker-setup-guide/

do you have pics or diagram of their location ?

if you are happy with the Energy speakers Sound. You could get an Atmos AVR and New sub and run speakers you have

Regarding inceiling Atmos- I went from Micca inceiling with aimable tweeter to Angled Monorprice and saw a small improvement. Miccas Sounded Good but sound better sitting or standing under them. The Monoprice direct sound to seating a little better. But if the inceiling are in wrong position/spot Not sure Angled would be enough.

If speakers are in wrong spot – leave them and cut new holes for new speakers or run height or elevation Atmos speakers like Polk OWM3 or RP-140SA

for an AVR – many buy refurbs from Accessories4less ( i did)

Denon S750 , Yamha RX-A680

subs : BIC PL-200ii, RSl Speedwoofer , SVS PB 1000

So just depends on if you are Happy with Energy speakers Sound or not and if you want Atmos more than than Better Sound from 5.1

you could go with a cheaper Dayton Audio sub for Now – Dayton 1200 get Atmos AVr and speakers and run the existing inwall surrounds and inceiling or get those Later

Denon S750

Fluance Elite 5.0 or 3 – MB42XC or Infinity R152 , RC252 (or wait for Next infinity Sale – seem to Happen every 3 months)

https://slickdeals.net/f/14111597-infinity-reference-home-theater-speakers-r263-tower-199-r152-bookshelf-pair-135-more-free-s-h?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1

but I feel they are Worth the Amazon Prices – Just Not the Reg Prices from Harmon/Infinity

Sub 1200 or Sub 1500

I started with : https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/comments/cwv89b/budget_atmos_1k_all_micca_522_atmos_system/

a few months later swapped LCR to Infinity Reference on Black Friday Sale and put the Miccas fronts on bedroom TV. Recently changed Micca inceiling to Monoprice angled inceiling and sometime in future will replace Micca subs with RSL Speedwoofers.

I’ve been eyeing this pair of speakers to use as ceiling speakers for my home theater setup, but they’ve been overpriced for a while now. They’ve been ~$100 for most of their life but recently they went up to $179

I thought “must be that thing where they raise the price, then lower it for Black Friday”, and I was right! They did lower it for Black Friday!

…to $176

Maybe Cyber Monday then?

Nope, back up to $179 today

Have $150 to test it out? My preference would be to have them.

Polk OWM3’s https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Wall-Speaker-Black/dp/B0018QNYVM for on-wall.

Any of the Polk In-ceiling speakers like the RC80i’s.

Denon X1500 $299 right now on Amazon

BIC F12 $209 right now on Amazon

Leaves you with about $500 for speakers. HTD Level 2 bookshelf speaker pair $229, HDT Level 2 center $149

Polk OM3’s for surround speakers $132 pair on Amazon

Total is just over $1000 but this is a kick ass system for that kind of money and allows you to grow into it and upgrade down the road.

The SSCSE? Useless junk.

They don’t even have the dignity to give it a tweeter at $160 a pair.

Polk OWM3 is less money and better.

I dont think their ceiling speakers are out of stock.

I’m going with these and mounting them as I can’t drill holes.

> If you’re worried about the speakers themselves being too close to the wall, you may want to reconsider the MB42x’s and instead go with something meant for wall mounting, such as the Polk OWM3’s… https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Wall-Speaker-Black/dp/B0018QNYVM

The set I’m worried about being too close to the wall (in my original scenario) are the Fluance AVBP2 surrounds.

I’ve read that bipolar surrounds can sound decent behind the listener, that’s the only reason I debated that setup.

I will check out the Polk’s. I think I’m probably going to end up going with the Elac B6’s and eventually the Elac C5 center.

Excellent point…and pretty much why I decided on trying to get an AV installer…I’m completed baffled where to put them.

  • I was considering the Polk Aurdio OWM3 in white or the Micca COVO-S compact bookshelves after seeing Zeo’s review of them…they seemed like they would potentially could be slipped into an arm of some sort, mounted at G0 or L0, and angled down towards the main viewing area without being too obvious.

  • Then I learned how important it was to be at ear level from a prior post. At the time I was so desperate that I was considering trying to do wireless surrounds as bookshelves that I could just move into place on movie night at positioned marked "Gx and Lx (near the middle of the wall)" since "G0 or L0 (Mounted on the upper wall)" didn’t seem very reasonable since it was so off of ear level. I figured that on movie night I could just use a rocketfish setup to slide a surround into position @ Gx or Lx and plug one of them in for a few hours…and maybe keep one on a windowsill (@ Gx) ready to go to make it even easier.

  • Completely confused, I had a local AV installer stop out and they suggested that perhaps mounting at G0-2 or L0-1 may actually be possible. They even thought that a bipole (or even a monopole) would be possible. Ultimately they suggested the Paradigms bipoles listed above.

  • Honestly bipoles or monopoles (Eg Polk Aurdio OWM3 or Micca COVO-S) don’t matter too much to me…as unobtrusive as possible would be preferred. Bipoles sound like perhaps they may be better for non-standard seating at a love seat, at the kitchen table watching TV, or just playing some music for the holidays…but I’m certainly open to suggestions!

  • I was considering asking for an alternate surround from what the AV installer, but quite honestly, I don’t know how to best compare them with my current layout, equipment and future plans. Could a ceiling speaker be added in or sliding a wireless speaker into Gx or Lx in the next 5-10 years? I have no idea…it sounds great in theory, but I have no clue what would be recommended or most flexible. But if there is an installer that can help out and provide guidance, Im more than willing to go with whatever they recommend

For my Front height speakers, I use a pair of Polk Audio OWM3. They work rather incredible.

1 point

·

28th Sep 2016

My concern with bipoles(and especially dipoles) on the walls there would be a potential phasing issue with a reflection off of the back wall. There would also be an associated gain from the rearward facing speakers of the bipole firing into corners.

Since it doesn’t seem like you’re opposed to wall mounting speakers, you could go for something like the Polk OWM3 which have a variety of mounting options and could even be mounted in the back corners firing into your room or these JBL Studio 210’s firing in towards your couch. These Fluance Signature Series bookshelves are front ported and come with a place to wall mount them as well. Good luck

You would either need to spend on the Orb or search out On-Wall Speakers. These are relatively new as a type of speaker so you won’t find many.

I usually recommend these for rear placement but if you need it the Polk OWM3 or more expensive OWM5

I also just found this one. http://www.rakuten.com/prod/cambridge-audio-ws30-slimline-on-wall-speakers-pair/249282654.html?listingId=283435025
