I don’t think the temp is a problem since I’m using the OXO Brew Adjustable Temperature Kettle. I’ll try the grind size and water advice though, thanks

I was in the same boat a couple of months ago – overwhelmed with choices while picking an electric kettle. I ended up going with the OXO Kettle (OXO BREW Adjustable Temperature Kettle,Clear,Electric Kettle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KTRDKNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g1MBFb5VCVKA5). If I remember correctly, OXO warranties it for two years, which seemed like a plus. If you do want to buy it, set up a price alert on Camel Camel Camel and buy it from amazon when it is $70 (it’s been jumping down to that price pretty frequently).

Flairs are awesome! I got one around 2-3 years ago now, I believe. Oh also, get the little pressure gauge whenever you can. It will make your shots a lot more consiatent. That being said, the biggest single improvement I could suggest would be to get an electric kettle and use tongs to place (and remove) the entire cylinder in the water while it warms up to 205°F.
The weird “pour hot water into a kettle and let it sit” approach doesn’t really work. You have to immerse the cylinder in hot water to get the temp to properly soak into the cylinder. This will bring the entire thing from “pretty ok” to quality I get from my coffee shops right down the road with the same beans. Great machine, though, and it’s super easy to clean!
