First up, you are absolutely right that headphone are not ideal. You can use them to generate ideas, do arrangements and do *some* mixing. However for sound design and especially for K & B – I don’t even try anymore.

With that caveat, try these– One Odio priced at around $35. You can spend more, but considering the aforementioned limitations, there isn’t much point.

For the best DAC in a phone, I am using the OneOdio which are technically the first copies of OneAudio brand of headphones, (Dj headphones), I’m loving it, I can hear properly between the lows, mids and highs, not overpowering bass but I noticed I could hear tones which I never did when listening through other headphones, just so you know, these are 50mm drivers, that produce excellent sound quality. I’m enjoying it so far, they aren’t heavy too, very comfortable, I’ll provide the link if you wish to purchase them. These are the ones I got. There are other models also. Check them before purchasing. If quality is your priority over extra bass then only go for this, if you want more bass and loss of treble then go for others like boat etc.

Use over the ear headphones. I just bought these and they sound great. They used over the ears when demoing psvr as well
