Well. An alternative is the Novation Audiohub. http://www.amazon.com/Novation-Audiohub-2×4-Combined-Interface/dp/B000Y02I6A

It’s quite a bit pricier than you were willing to pay at 169$ but it has a focusrite soundchip on the inside and is pretty fantastic. Owning a couple Ni interfaces myself I can safely say the Audiohub is light years better. Plus it gives you a USB hub right in the soundcard to plug your USB controllers etc. Pretty useful if your laptop is lacking USB ports.

The problem is that no receivers have balanced outputs, and most mixers and audio interfaces don’t have RCA inputs at all, let alone multiple.

The only one I know of that will support USB from your laptop, as well as RCA in, and balanced TRS output is the Novation Audiohub. It’s only got a single RCA input, but you could run to an RCA switch first. It’s made by Novation, manufacturer of some of the most popular pad and synth units on the market. The DAC portion is handled by Focusrite, an established leader in audio interfaces. Plus, it’s on sale for under $200.

(It uses Focusrite D/A convertors – same company)

I could be wrong but I don’t think any audio interfaces output to USB, sorry. Even USB focused interfaces output via headphone jack. You can buy a little converter but it’ll slightly increase latency and may not work as intended as it typically needs a computer to function.

Its been kind of a well kept secret (or oddly little fanfare) but there are actually (affordable) solutions to that now.

On top of that it lets you play and charge even an iPad at the same time!

The Novation Audiohub 2×4 should also solve the problem and has really great sound out and easy way to plug in multiple midi controllers. I’m kind of disappointed by the input choices though, and most of all that there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to adjust the input other than a high/low switch.

It is possible it can charge an iPad at the same time also but it will be a trickle. One nice thing is the powered hub, but that of course means another powercable, but if you just want to use the audio part of the hub you can use it with just usb power.

I have both of these and they work, and will work together.
