Neutrogena makes a scent-free product, it’s the HydroBoost Extra Dry in the tub. This one. All the dupes I’ve found contain fragrance, which is unfortunate, because Kroger and a few other companies have made cheaper dupes, but I can’t use fragrances products.

Where are you based? Location has a huge influence on price. What’s cheap in Europe can be pricy in the US and vice versa. Anyway, here’s the Amazon for the gel-cream: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Hyaluronic-Hydrating-Moisturizer-Gel-Cream/dp/B00NR1YQK4

If your budget is tight, I’m sure the Aveeno will also be fine. I actually like using unscented body creams as face moisturizer, which keeps costs waaaaay down (I’m slightly acne-prone for context).

Neutrogena makes a hyaluronic acid cream that I’ve recently fallen in love with. It’s in a blue container. Let me find you a link.

Edit for link: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel-Cream Face Moisturizer to Hydrate & Smooth Extra-Dry Skin, Oil-Free, Fragrance-Free, Non-Comedogenic & Dye-Free Face Lotion, 1.7 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NR1YQK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1R26BBZ2CTNYWJ1TNMBH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Remember to do a test patch before applying to your whole face to make sure you don’t have an allergy.

Wow thanks for the ingredient breakdown, that honestly gives the best perspective imo!

also, the Neutrogena HB extra-dry formula is actually free from artificial dyes and fragrance and you can get it on amazon fr 🥰 https://www.amazon.fr/Neutrogena-Hydro-Boost-Gel-crème-Extra-dry/dp/B00NR1YQK4?th=1&psc=1

Honestly the Neutrogena one I mentioned is my favorite and what I have used for 4-5 years now. It’s this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NR1YQK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_C3CDFbPKB47N6

But it’s not cheap, so it kind of depends on your budget! Maybe one of the other awesome members of this sub with more experience than me can give some suggestions.

Before you buy new product, try applying your moisturizer to your face when its still quite wet. Iv found that helps otherwise greasy ones actually sink in. And also improves their efficacy.

You also might not need a moisturizer during the day at all. Many people don’t. At night it matters less if your skin feels oily so you can keep using the cerave maybe.

All that said, neutrogena hydroboost is a water gel ideal for daytime wear. Its just hyaluronic acid suspended in gel. You apply this to wet skin in the morning. It feels just like water. Make sure you get this exact one, the scented one looks almost identical and is trash.

I mostly use Asian skincare products so I cany recommend anymore cheap stuff haha. Esp for your night one that should be more moisturizing than the neutrogena imo.

Hi new to the subreddit. What are your opinions on moisturizers with SPF? I’m currently using a Mario Badescu moisturizer w/ SPF 30 and I’m suspecting it’s clogging my pores. What moisturizer do you recommend for oily, sensitive and scarred skin? I was looking at this this.

Furthermore, any recommendations on a good SPF to apply?

Thanks.

Do we just spend our whole lives trying products to find the best thing? It feels so daunting.

I’ll definitely try the squalane thank you!

Just a heads up that the neutrogena hydroboost water gel has a fragarance free version https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Hydro-Boost-Gel-Cream-Extra/dp/B00NR1YQK4

For the Secret toner the fragarance seems to be at the bottom so not the worst. But still wouldn’t recommend. Heavily fragaranced products makes my skin inflamed and bumpy. My toner does contain fragarance but it’s very mild so doesn’t cause me any problem. But I’d still say stay away from added fragarance as much as you can.

I don’t wear foundation often but I am a shiny mess by the end of work. I use a three step skin care process every day and a gel moisturizer , primer, this shine killer, setting powder. and a matte setting spray.

You can use a foundation between the shine killer and matte setting powder. I use this when I include foundation in my routine but I don’t wear it often and definitely don’t use foundation at the hospital.

The only other thing I recommend is using an oil absorbing sheet regularly throughout the night. It’s really the best thing I’ve found to deal with oily skin.

I would try first treating it like fungal acne/other types of dermatitis and use oil-free moisturizers like this night cream and this or this one as daytime moisturizers. PC even has oil-free sunscreen. My husband has seborrheic dermatitis and I built that routine for him basically treating it like fungal acne.

If that isn’t enough, I’d try routines for rosacea that are very gentle and focused on rebuilding the moisture barrier. Even if you’ve used a gentle lotion—it may not have had all the moisturizing factors in it to heal your skin (ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids). There are serums designed with all of them like this one I use. Lotions like cetaphil or Eucerin redness relief night creams really do help with the redness and are on the more moisturizing my skin can tolerate without breaking out.

Puberty sucks. Poor kid. Good luck, that’s all I have to add 🙁

Edit: i decided to add that he should definitely use a moisturizer if you are adding stridex and such. Without a moisturizer those products actively make acne worse. It strips the skin of oils and then the skin will react by overcompensating and making even more oil and grease. I know it sounds counterintuitive but its vital he moisturize. The combo of an acid + moisturizer is usually what can clear up acne. Assuming its possible to clear since hes in puberty.

He needs a good one after he uses the stridex pads especially or his skin will be red and angry and an oily mess an hour later.

For a boy in puberty id suggest an unscented water gel based moisturizer. Like this neutrogena one. Careful not to buy the scented one that looks almost identical.

Or cerave am/pm which are lighter than the other cerave moisturizers. He can just use the PM one in the morning too if the sunscreen one makes him too pale or greasy.

All moisturizers are best applied to wet skin. So after he uses the stridex pads, wait 5 min, then splash the face with water again and rub in the moisturizer. This will seriously help them to actually sink in and not just feel gross on the skin.

Getting him to do all this will be hard lol. Poor kid for real. Routines work best in the evening rather than the morning so you don’t sleep on dirty skin.

I’d toss all the clean and clear products. They arent very good. Stick to cerave if you want cheap drugstore products.

Use a water gel based moisturizer in the day instead of cerave to cut down on oilyness.

Some options are the neutrogena hydroboost. ONLY this unscented one. Theres another that looks similar that is super fragranced and irritating).

or Hada Labo Perfect Gel which is the same thing but a little more moisturizing since it has some ceramides and collagen in it. You will find this like a watered down, light cerave. This is actually the same product just marketed and packaged in America differently. They call it skin plumping but its the same moisturizer in a different tub. You can supposedly find it in Target.

Note that both of these need to be applied to wet skin since they are primarily hyaluronic acid based moisturizers. If your skins not actively wet when you apply it, it doesnt do nearly as much.

Are you referring to the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel-Cream Face Moisturize? I just want to be sure I’m looking at the right thing.

I didn’t really like the Jack Black for its intended purpose. It didn’t last long enough. But, looking at the ingredients, it’s got a lot of things we like on our face skin! Rose hip, aloe, and lavender are a few. So far, I haven’t experienced anything negative.

I am thinking about trying the Hylamide Mat-12 I saw in someone’s shelfie. She raved about it.

Hi guys, I have very oily skin and acne. For my routine I had been using the Neutrogen Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturizer, which worked fine (I think? It didn’t break me out at least). I ran out and ordered a replacement, but I ordered this by accident

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NR1YQK4/ref=dp_cerb_2

This says it’s for extremely dry skin. Can I still use it? Any recommendations for light moisturizers for people with oily skin?

These are imo the best completely oil free ones. They are all water gel based.

Neutrogena Hydroboost – this is probably the simplest moisturizer on the whole market. Its only hyaluronic acid in a water gel. Its usually not enough for people on its own tho if you have dry skin.

Krave Oat So Simple self explanatory water cream. Its only slightly more hydrating than the hydroboost but very good if you add an occlusive layer over it at night. If you have dry skin im again not sure itll be enough, but it might be!

Hada Labo Tokyo Gel – This is very similar, but its a water gel with additional ceramides and hydrating factors. Super good stuff. Ignore the words “skin plumping”, its just a moisturizer! It’s probably the best water gel moisturizer on the market and is best applied to wet skin so it can suck up the water and hold it to you all day. You can get this in some stores and on amazon. I recommend this the most.

Hada Labo Perfect Gel – The slightly cheaper Japanese version of the above. Its literally the same product just in a different box. You can order it from yesstyle or Amazon.

I came here for others opinion if it broke them out like it did for me, not sure. It was also oily for me as well but I layered it with a matte gel face moisturizer. This is a very good misturizer. i also linked a site to copy and paste ingredients to check for pore clogging .

pore clogging site

neutrogena extra dry skin gel moisturizer

( there are two gel moisturizre that look near identical, make sure you look at the one that say extra dry skin)

Hello (again)! I just have a quick question about benzoyl peroxide. I recently purchased the CLEAR Regular Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide from Paula’s Choice. If I find it to be drying, I plan to use it with my Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream Extra Dry Skin.

My question is should I use the benzoyl peroxide under the Hydro Boost or over it?

Thanks!
